  • Portland let's drink some damn Burgundy! (Tabla): I align with the Burghound on this one. The aromas are incredibly herbal and savory, with lots of spice. Pretty nice stuff. The palate is soft and spicy, with lots of tannins building. Tart, grippy palate and a bit closed. The finish offers lots of spice and acid, and slight bits of funk. Considering the vintage, this is quite good. Would have loved to see how the Dujacs would fair for the group blind.

  • The wine was double decanted and then poured after 3 hours. The nose is remarkable on this wine with lots of truffle, earth notes and general funk that was just amazing. There is still fruit left although the earthy flavors dominated the wine and the finish was quite long and elegant. While the tannins are now very soft, there is still structure in the wine that likely would allow it to age gracefully for another 5 years.

  • This wine rocked, tasted alongside the 2001, the similar Dujac character showed thru. This was funk city. I decanted it at cellar temp and took it along to the restauarnt. Was a very light color, bordering on pink, but not orange. They did not open the recorked bottle til it was poured, an hour or two later. The tree bark, truffle tobacco and heavey forest floor nose was evident for 3 hours, and the wine did not waver. The taste was similar to the nose, hints of chocolate and smoke as well. It did not have much fruit showing, which bothered the young wine drinkers in the crowd, but was the perfect match with both duck breast and caribou for me. Beautiful balance as well.

What surprised was the lack of cherry fruit (although there was a lot of other nuances with kept my attention) and how much concentration the wine had (a lot). The 2001, a much better vintage by all accounts, had a shorter finsh, with about equal weight. A bit more spicy fruit would have bumped thescore for sure.

You could sense the similarities between the vintages. If the other recent vintages head in this direction I will be a happy boy.
