  • Asperg Wine Syndrome Tasting Group: Birthday gleaning #2 (@Private location, Stuttgart): Glass: Riedel Vinum Bordeaux
Tasted blind. Clear, pale lemon color. Nose is muted and closed. On the palate real lemonade, 8% abv, salty mineral notes, fine herbs, high acidity. Still closed and muted. Needs way more time to fully shine. 89++

  • 8% alcohol. Tasted blind among 46 other 2017 Riesling Kabinetts in Kabinett Cup 2017.

Quite intense lime green color. Lively, perfumed and slightly floral nose with fine-tuned aromas of apple blossom, some rubbery reduction, a little bit of grapey fruit, light sandy notes and a hint of chalky stone dust. With air, these dusty aromas seem to slowly grow in intensity, making people wonder if there is a mild hint of TCA here. The wine is medium-bodied, quite concentrated and focused on the palate with intense off-dry flavors of tart lemony citrus fruits, tangy saline minerality, some ripe lemon marmalade tones, a little bit of white peach and a slightly dull hint of chalk dust. The crisp acidity lends noticeable tension to the wine. The finish is crisp, lively and very acid-driven with intense, racy flavors of tart lemony citrus fruits nad key lime, some honeyed richness and a little bit of white peach.

The wine is impressively crisp, racy and acid-driven, but also slightly dull, which made the wine stand out a little to its disadvantage. Many judges commented favorably on the tension and structure of the wine, but the somewhat dull, dusty character raised the question whether the wine was in sound condition. It never started to show any obvious TCA characteristics, but it is possible that this wasn't in pristine condition and a clean bottle would've performed better. Nonetheless, the wine was still quite great and in my opinion well above the average - even though it didn't get a single point from any of the 12 judges.

  • Quite lovely but this was surprisingly full and supple, moreso than I remember from visiting in September.

Has a lovely tangy freen fruited finish.

  • Blek strågul. To timer på karaffel. Nokså lukket på nese. Noe fersken, sitrus. Generelt en lys, fruktdrevet nese. Svært lett og elegant i munn med en delikat, avdempet sødme og en nydelig nerve. Heftig syre. God lengde. Avslutter så å si tørr. God allerede, men vil være mye bedre om et par år.
