Bit wild and rustic, like Ponsot without the complexity and giving fruit. Big tannins and structure which points to perhaps a grand cru but I went to Nebbiolo here. This is a classic Grivot of old and this is for sure an acquired taste, one which I’m still struggling to like.

Jason's birthday: Garnet with some bricking towards the rim. Animal notes on the nose, on the attack initially very soft and resolved but towards the finish still some grippy tannins. Finish not very long. Settled on Barolo 90s.

Jason's birthday: Unresolved oak on the nose and palate, tannins were astringent and drying that I thought it was a Nebbiolo. Dark, slightly spicy fruit that didn’t excite. Haven’t been impressed with Grivot from this era.

(Grivot Jean Clos de Vougeot) Medium-plus colour. Thick cherry compote nose. Lovely fruit, thick tannins and good acidity. This has an earthy character and is a touch astringent, but is very good indeed.

Double-blind. Extracted with tough and drying tannins, this will never be ready. Typical of Grivot wines pre-2007.

Noticeably brick color. Dark fruit and cinnamon spice.
