  • A good vintage for Chateau Meyney, which I would place a notch above the 2019 but below the 2016.
More dark-fruited (starting with sour cherries but turning to cherries, brambles and mulberries) and slightly more opulent than the 2019, but less firm than the 2016 and lacking its early complexity. Currently the wine shows almost like a barrel-sample with its fruit being very primary and the oak not yet integrated. On a positive note the high content of Petit Verdot makes for a distinctive dark fruit profile and the alcohol is unobtrusive. Due to its soft tannin and creamy, rounded mouthfeel the wine is approachable and should hit its prime before too long, something lovers of the robust Meyneys of the past may struggle with.

  • 4 hours of air! No heat, no over-extraction. Elegant wine with good balance between acidity and fruit. Not the most complex nose. Black and fresh though. On the palate there are black fruits, cabernet dominates. Tannins very smooth. I think this will be nice in its youth. 91-92 pts. P/Q is ok!

  • Flowers, dark cherries, blackberries, Asian spices and espresso is what you find right off the bat on the nose. Rich, ripe, supple and lush, the wine is polished, fresh and offers layers of fruit-filled pleasure with every sip. Give this a few years of age and it promisses to really hit the spot. Drink from 2025-2045.

  • Tasted over 48 hours multiple times, notes written around the 48h mark.

    Color is deep purple.
Intensity is medium with flavors and aromas of: Forest floor, Fig, Black pepper, Blueberry, Blackberry, Blackcurrant, Anise, Licorice, Tomato leaf, Asparagus, Blackcurrant leaf, All spice, brown sugar, chocolate milk, Raspberry, Blueberry Jam, charcuterie, wet clay, tobacco leaf.

Wine is dry, acidity is medium, tannins are explosive, alcohol is medium, medium+ body, Finish is long.

A real shame to have opened this now as its still a baby, and super tight even after 48 hours.
Would not touch this for another decade.
