  • Red color with garnet reflections.
The nose is on red fruits, pepper, blackcurrant, precious wood, fruit coulis, eucalyptus, humus, mushrooms...
The palate is fresh, well integrated tannins, slight sweetness, medium substance, long, quite complex.
I find it a slight lack of energy
The 1996 drunk a year ago offered much more complexity and substance.

  • DnP. Dark garnet red, yellow tinged, 5.5. Wonderful mature Medoc bouquet, pencil, cigar box, cedar, forest floor, complex. Harmonious palate, lT, mA, m-B, almost resolved tannins, elegant, balance, long finish. Drink now but no hurry.

  • Consistent with other recent notes on this wine. Classic Bordeaux palate that is full of Cherry, roasted plum, leather, turned soil, cedar, mushroom and gravel. So many layers that unfold, and just the right level of complexity.

Don't get me wrong, you can see the seams and it is not put together like more elegant classed growth but it certainly is a delicious fully mature wine today. A perfect case for buying and storing these "lesser" wines for decades and having beautiful daily drinkers when they are mature.

  • Open in the bottle for a couple hours; this wine is totally in the zone right now. Perfect cork so I presume the bottle has been stored very well. Nose is classic Bordeaux; gravelly, earthy, saddle leather, hints of cherry and mint, sightly leafy. Palate is equally classic: cherries, perfectly ripe plums, graphite, grilled mushroom, hint of chocolate. Great concentration, tannins resolved and acidity in total balance. Fantastic.

  • A fantastic bottle, with a perfect capsule, cork, and fill. I should have stood it up longer than a few hours for the fine sediment, but no matter. This overperformed for us tonight. Aromatically it was quite open, and classic, uncoiling over a couple hours in the decanter before we finished the bottle. On the nose, I’d be thinking of a top left bank estate. It lacks a bit of weight on the palate and sappy length to the finish, but makes up for it with lively tertiary notes on the bouquet and prescice notes of blackcurrant, cigar wrapper, pen ink. A fabulous value for an auction buy last year. Probably not likely to improve much, but I imagine sound bottles would rest on the plateau for another 5 years before decline.
