Double decanted due to its youth. Dark ruby with hint of purple hue. Smoke, black plum and cedar on the nose. In the mouth it's almost painfully intense but surprisingly balanced in fruit, acidity and tannin for such a young wine. Medium-long finish of lingonberry and dried thyme. Impressive now but bound to improve substantially over the coming years. I'll wait until 2024 to sample again.

Black fruit, red fruit, blue fruit, tobacco, cocoa powder, herbal notes, spice, pepper, tobacco, and chocolate, finishes with a touch of expresso and really big tannins.
It's a different Private Reserve from the past 40 years, Ed Sbragia use to make enormous wines, and Laurie made big wines with elegance. Mark Beringer made four vintages of an elegant wine. This wine doesn't have the elegance of the last two winemakers or the hugeness of past vintages. But it has complexity and a quiet subtleness. It's a fascinating wine that reflects Ryan. I'm excited to see how it evolves.
