Off the charts in every sense of the word, this is a stunning, world-class sweet wine! Its incredible level of concentration is equally matched by its intense, racy character, which is the perfect frame for all its sweet, unctuous, ripe, and overripe, honey-slathered yellow, and orange tropical fruits, apricots, roasted nuts, saffron, ginger, vanilla, and caramel. This is a true legend of Sauternes that lovers of sweet wine need in their cellars. That being said, with yields of an impossible 1 hectoliter per hectare, (due to frost) every bottle you drink is a percentage of the minuscule production! So, grab this stunner fast, as it will be impossible to find in a few years. Drink from 2025-2060.

(96-98 vvPunkte) Dunkles Goldgelb.

Selections of Bordeaux 2021 from barrel: My highest score of the vintage goes to this amazing wine, 100% Sémillon ageing in 50% new oak. It gives off such distinct notes of ginger and white pepper, with a sensually dense palate texture, evoking peach and pear. Very low yields, low production, but magical. A long finish. (96-98)

When I discovered that the yields were only 1 hectoliter per hectare, it dawned on me that I was drinking a percentage of the production! While there was almost no wine, what there was hit all the right notes. Unctuous, rich, sweet and most importantly, vibrant with its racy acidity, the ripe and overripe, spicy apricots, vanilla, honey and roasted nut aromas with their candied orange rind nuances were just what the doctor ordered on the nose and palate. Drink from 2023-2050. 95-97

En-Primeur campaign for the 2021 vintage; 4/25/2022-4/29/2022 (Bordeaux): Shown at Pichon Baron Apricot, marmalade, vanilla, cream but with a slightly meaty funkiness underpinning this. Medium plus intensity acidity is offset by lusciously sweet sugar levels, similar flavour profile to the nose (with the funkiness) but joined by a little pineapple as well. The oak lends a little texture on the mid palate. The sugar level is very slight too high for me.
