With the exception of the wines from the 1980s, all of these bottles could rightly be said to be well into the back nine of life with the eighteenth hole in sight. That being said, none of them were expired, off, or even especially tired, and despite the oldest ones being very tertiary, they all showed some degree of aged fruit. In finality, all of the wines fell somewhere on a spectrum between the upper end of “poor” and the lower end of “very good.”
This 1966 Lascombes was purchased at retail with a very high shoulder fill. This was perfectly drinkable but not a favorite around the table. Although there were some aged red fruits in evidence and some whiffs of smoke and cigar wrapper, these elements were marred by an unripe, herbal streak that was not ideal. The wine faded after about forty minutes in the glass. 12.9% ABV (high poor/below average/*/13.5/83)

Needs about 45 minutes to start waking up, after all, this is 54 years old now! Its drinking wines like this that make me think that the 66 vintage of Bordeaux did not get the time that it deserved in the spotlight and was shadowed by the great 61. Remember that the 61's were 5 years ahead of this in circulation and probably breathtaking in their youth, as the elders say of the 82's. (glad to report that I was still too young). But this 66' is all bordeaux, resolved, and rather sweet, while having a great tannic presence that drives a long and clean snobbish finish. Started fading at mindnight, as I do as well these days, but we enjoyed a long conversation! DRINK
Had with BurgNick. What was really incredible about this was despite the half bottle format, the wine showed quite well, with that perfect combination of tertiary notes (smoke, tobacco, leaaves) and smooth tannins and red fruit. Exactly what you want from an aged Bordeaux.

Another strong showing from this batch of half bottles. Probably the freshest bottle with dark fruit, smoke, truffle, tobacco and earth. Still very vibrant with good acidity. 92-93

One of five wines I served to friends as part of a ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s Bordeaux retrospective that also included the following:
1961 Calon-Segur
1970 Gruaud-Larose
1982 Grand-Puy-Lacoste
1986 Grand-Puy-Lacoste

Another nice bottle of 66 Lascombes in 375ml. Consistent with previous note.
