Nose of dark fruits: black cherry and maybe cassis, with a medicinal note, cola, spice, really smoky and a bit meaty. Tart and smoky on the palate with black cherry fruit, earth and iron. Tart and earth finish. With air, this became more integrated, perfumed and complex. Nose - 5/6, Palate - (4.5) 5/6, Finish - 4.5/6, Je ne Sais Quoi - 1/2 = 15.5/20

The 2007 Roty Fontenys is drinking very well right now, with a deep and dark bouquet of smoky black cherry, roast meats, game and soil. On the palate the wine is juicy, with moderate acids and quite open knit, with less concentration at the core than one might expect from a Roty wine: an artifact of the vintage presumably. This is very attractive, and an appealing expression of this climat, but I wouldn't hold it for all that much longer.

Classic Gevrey nose of animale and beef blood with dark sweet fruit in the background. Dark red fruits on the palate with a very savory mushroom/sous bois component. Great weight, very smooth, classy wine which lacks some structure. I don't think this will make old bones based on how resolved it is and the slight lack of acidic spine, but was really enjoyable.
