APPEARANCE: A wonderful bronze / amber colour. Almost no sediment. NOSE: Smells like a combination of my homemade lemon marmalades and Seville orange marmalades. Lovely citrus notes. Sweet almonds, artisan marzipan, earl grey tea, lemon water, lemonade, fresh mginger. The nose is just so intense, full of these citrus marmalade notes. (90p) TASTE: The arrival is sweet and orangey. On the mid palate; citrus fruit and citrus acidity of all kinds, marzipan. Medium to rich body, viscous mouthfeel, tastes medium sweet. (89p) Lovely citrusy, mature Sauternes. Rather primary and perhaps a bit one dimensional. Still a very good and enjoyable wine. Very small sips go a very long way. Should keep developing for at least another 4-5 years. TOTAL SCORE 89 points.
11 DAYS LATER (kept in a full, capped, refrigerated bottle) it has oxidised ever so little on the nose, just making it more complex and an even more interesting nosing experience, adding a slight oxidised touch and a little extra depth to the existing nosing impressions (now 92p). The same slight oxidisation is evident on the palate, where the wine has added a thin additional layer of complexity and some extra depth of taste. No specifically new taste components, just a better and more complex version of the previous components and its totality (now 90p). The wine has developed into a mature Sauternes with an elegant touch of Oloroso Sherry. It is in a really great spot right here and now. TOTAL (updated) SCORE 91 points.
