Great Wine Dinner, No Wine Theme (Tzuco - Chicago IL): Popped-and-poured, bottle with a great fill and great color. Fully mature yet with enough fruit and lots of cigarbox. No longer that powerful, but lots here. Thanks for the birthday treat, Mark.

Why 62 is less than 61 (Wine Watch, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida): Ex Mähler-Besse. Now this is quite good and shows what a fully resolved Léoville Las Cases can taste like. Genuine purity of ripe and low octane Cabernet Sauvignon; mulberry, cassis, tender tannins, decent finish. Enjoyable and not fading, at least from well kept bottles.

When I pulled the cork at 5:30 the wine smelled truly awful, like bleach and windex, maybe some mold too. I left it sitting open for a half hour and it still smelled awful. So I decanted it before giving up on it, and I'm glad I did, because within 10 minutes it cleaned up completely, showed the stately and graceful old claret smells of tobacco and soil. Gained complexity over the next two hours showing dried rose petals and even some old stewed berry fruit. The palate took longer to fill out and at first the acidity was a bit high. The palate never hit the heights of the nose but it was balanced and still vigorous and expressive, although without the density or pungency of flavor that separates a great old Bdx from a good one. There's nothing further to wait for, in my opinion. Enjoy them if you have them.

similar to my 2019 note - brick with orange rim - restrained nose of mature cassis and some old leather - medium body with mostly resolved tannins - very pretty mature red fruit in the mouth with good acid-fruit balance - medium 15-20 sec finish - undoubtedly on the down slope, but still a beautifully mature 50+ year old with all the characteristics one looks for in a mature St. Julien

Great nose. Totally astringent. Got only marginally better with time. I’ve had much better bottles
