Gilly-les-Citeaux
Tasted Tuesday, March 20, 2012 by Burgundy Al with 963 views
We arrived after lunch and quite a few of the top wines were already finished, so this was not as comprehensive as the tasting for Vosne-Romanee.
Wine tasting. Ripe fruit, slightly jammy start. Good fruit intensity for Bourgogne, which is expected to be somewhat simple.

Wine tasting. Black and red fruit. Big and brawny with good power and concentration, particularly on end. Relies more on power than textures or elegance.

Wine tasting. Red and black fruit aromas and flavors with good spice. Lots of minerality and good structure, finishing with good power and concentration. By far my favorite of the three Bertagna 2010 Vougeot 1ers tasted here.

Wine tasting. Red fruit, simple spice. Good Villages level, very Chambolle in character.

Wine tasting. All black fruit on both nose and palate. Very powerful but still balanced. Subtle spice comes through on long finish. Great trying this along with its 2008 counterpart, I slightly prefer the 2008 but the 2010 has greater density.

Wine tasting. Good combination of red and black fruit with lots of spice. Powerful fruit and tannins, nicely supported by good acidity. Evolving finish shows more delicacy and finesse. Even better than when tasted at the Domaine last spring (slightly more balanced and integrated).

Wine tasting. The unusual 2011 being poured at Grands Jours, this was lean and elegant. Somewhat shorter and simpler than other recent vintages of Lambrays, but this is very young. I was surprised to see it has already completed malolactic fermentation.

Wine tasting. 100% whole cluster. Perfumed start with lush red fruit. Good fruit on palate with good balance, this should drink well near-term and for at least a decade going forward.

Wine tasting. My first experience with this producer. Rich and a bit jammy, not a favorite today.

Wine tasting. My first experience with this producer. Cherry jam, entirely fruity and primary, not incredibly balanced for my preferences.

Wine tasting. Mostly black cherry with red cherry hints, along with some black pepper and tarragon. Big spice, particularly on long finish. Another success, I expect this will continue to be a great value 1er.

Wine tasting. Classic beauty. More balanced than most 2009s, even the other great ones. Red fruit and delicate fresh herbs along with baking spice. Expanding power from middle to long, long finish, but still all about finesse.

Wine tasting. Lean red fruit aromas, approachable and charming already today. Good red fruit on palate, simple but bolstered by good acid levels and textures.

Wine tasting. Ripe fruit aromas with a barnyard character. Either a bad bottle or a wine that's not perfectly pristine.

Wine tasting. Floral, perfumed start. Powerful black fruit with moderate, meaty spice. Long finish brings together good fruit, structure and spice is a very classic manner. At its peak, tasting wonderful in a day of tasting mostly exuberant 2010s.

Wine tasting. Bright red fruit aromas with some good spice. Energetic fruit on palate with great balance. Quite complete for its level, 90 point potential to me, certainly worth seeking out.

Wine tasting. Red and black cherry flavors and aromas. Also well structures and textured with good acidity and minerality and elegant tannins. Spice emerges at end. Not necessarily better than the wonderful MSD Villages just tasted, but another good 2010 worth seeking out.

Wine tasting. All black fruit, very dense on both nose and palate. Rather compact on palate gives it an inaccessible character, this wine will need plenty of time in cellar.

2010 Domaine Arlaud Morey St. Denis

Wine tasting. Big and powerful for vintage, both in terms of fruit aromas and structure on palate. Somewhat bulky for the vintage.
