Deep neon green; lemon, almond, slight butter, oak, almost tropical fruit, age, butterscotch, mineral; a bit more neutral on the palate, seamless, more limpid in its acidity, not super rich, lovely lemon, oak just shades; was thinking a well done Sonoma Coast Chardonnay.
Darker core with reddish violet rim; screechy nose, sweaty, mulled plum, sour fruit, raspberry, leather, game; fairly plush on the palate, fatter softer and rounder than nose suggested, violets, plums, interesting finish; ok.
Cloudy dull brick with paler rim; soy, orange peel, cedar, tobacco, sour cherry, denser aged nose; more glycerin on the palate, brick dust, mushroom, cooked red fruit, complex, aged and very interesting; was on '98 CdP before I remembered having this a few times- the brick dust was the giveaway, nailed it.
Darker core with chocolate, very orange brick rim; fairly nondescript nose, roses, balsam, chocolate, almost a chlorine type smell; red fruit, cherry, cedar, firm wall of tannin, dried roses, a bit sour at first but came together with more air; interesting though not compelling.
Sediment, dark crimson, pale rim; green edge, weird nose; viscous, crazy texture, short finish, raspberry, and heartburn inducing; no idea what this was...
Dark core with garnet rim; green pepper, fresher fruit on the nose, tobacco, wet earth, currant, black currant, sour plum; nice texture, some salty cedar, richer, softer acid than Sangio would be, finishes with nice tannic grip; tasty.
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Dark core with garnet rim, lots of sediment; soy, fennel, roses, caraway, tobacco; sharp acid, sour cherry, dried rose, drying tannin, sour cherry, long finish, liqueur cherry, tobacco, ashy; not as good as previous bottles.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Pale crimson, pale rim, see through; piney, cranberry, sour and tart fruit, slight mahogany, herbs; glycerin and more complexity on the palate, richness, sexy, great texture, leaner fruit, tea, sour red fruit and cherry finish; good.
Ruby core with paler rim; green, lots of pyrazines here, 2011, cherry, stemmy?, floral and roses underneath; liqueur like on the palate, still green but sharp acid and richer dark red fruit; ok.
France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Crimson core with pale rim, clarity; nori, cranberry, sour raspberry, unmistakably CdP, baby aspirin galore; sharp and fresh on the palate, very Grenache; still young, really enjoy this style, producer and vintage.
Black core with brick rim; red currant, mushroom, cedar, dusty, dark chocolate; broader on the palate, richer, cherry, currant, spicy, tart fruit, darker perspective, pencil lead; good.
Italy, Lombardia, Valtellina, Sforzato di Valtellina
See through crimson, pale rim; nose shows roses, sour cherry, herbs, licorice; palate is seamless, silky tannin, ripe fruit, doesn't feel like it's been dried for 3 months, serious and very drinkable; very good; like this more now than the 5 Stelle.
