A round, soft, voluptuous kind of wine. Lots of cocoa, dark chocolate, black cherry, some coffee and orange zest too. Black tea with some air. Acidity is not very high but it doesn’t feel like it’s missing in the grand scheme of things.

A very pleasurable wine; only detraction is that it’s 14.5% abv. It’s not a heavy wine but the alcohol warmth does poke through. I feel like this is one of those wines that’s worth checking out now, it doesn’t need additional cellaring, but it will probably continue to evolve over time. Recommend this be served at cellar temp. 93-94.

Pyramid Valley tasting at 67PM with Steve Smith MW. Drank in Zalto Universal.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, bright ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of raspberry, strawberry confit, small red flowers, fresh garden after the rain, some dusty stones and earth. Youthful.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13%), medium- tannins, medium body. Medium flavour intensity, with flavours of gentle raspberries, strawberry, earthy dusty stones minerality. Long juicy finish.
Very good quality. Extremely pleasant young drinking Pinot Noir that is effortlessly elegant without being overly fruity. So approachable.

Pyramid Valley tasting at 67PM with Steve Smith MW. Drank in Zalto Universal.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of nicely nutty oak, geologic rocks, citrus lemon curd and pith, hint of hot oil. White peach with more air.
On the palate, dry, good high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14.5%), medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of salty licking wet stones and rocks minerality, nicely integrated nutty oak, rich energetic citrus lemon curd and pith, white and yellow peaches. Mealy oatmeal to the long finish.
Very good quality Chardonnay! So well made! Ready to drink and can age a bit too. At the same price and age range this would thrash so many other Chards including Bourgogne and Village wines out there.

Medium lemon in the glass. Mad reduction when just opened, smelled really bad. After 45 minutes of decanting it opens up to notes of lime, lemon, green apple, oatmeal. Drunk this over 3 hours, but it didn’t really impress. It feels like there is all this oak and acidity on the frontline, but no depth or development beyond this. Quite thin.

Tuesday night drinks at home with neighbourhood folks. Drank in Gabriel Standart.
Initially dominated by flinty reduction on the nose. Blows off after a while to reveal all the same notes I got as before, but with the oak a little more integrated. Hint of tropical fruit added.
Lots of geologic stony minerality. Still great acidity. Mealy oatmeal. Lots of substance and long finish.

Extremely reductive at first pour; needs hours in the decanter to open up and show some fruit, but the strong struck match remains. Really reminded me of Dog Point at least in this regard. The palate is quite nice with a soft texture and good freshness. Not too much oak. Solid finish. 16/20

Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of soft yellow peach, citrus orange, touch of oatmeal. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (14%), medium+ body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of mealy oatmeal, soft white and yellow peaches, citrus orange and lemon, salt and stones minerality in the background. Long finish.
Excellent quality. Muted nose for now, but complex palate showing up as it gets more air. Needs age.

Pyramid Valley tasting at 67PM with Steve Smith MW. Drank in Zalto Universal.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, lemon colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of zesty lemon-lime, freshly cut pasture/hay, yellow flowers, rocks and stones mineral background. Developing.
On the palate, dry, very high salivating acidity, medium alcohol (14%), medium body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of very salty stones minerality, racy zesty citrus lemon-lime. Very long salty finish with rapier-like precision.
Excellent quality. My type of Chard. More about minerality and precision than showy fruit. Good things for sure with more age.

Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of gentle red cherries, red flower, earth + chalk. Developing. Shy.
On the palate, dry, very high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), very fine filigreed medium- tannins, medium body. A meaty, old world style Pinot with sour cherry fruit, smoked ham complemented by violets. The palate shows a fleshy structure and fresh acidity. A new discovery for me that – if performing consistently – is a must have in any Pinot collection.

During a walkabout tasting, so only brief impressions. Lovely discovery here. The Pyramid Valley wines were delightful, translucent red color, very light on the palate too, much lighter than the Felton Road or Bell Hill wines for example, Volnay style really. The Angel flower was floral and ethereal (91pt) while the earth smoke (93pt) was a step up in palate presence and richness as well as complexity, more Morey.

Langer, rotfruchtiger Abgang. Ab sofort ein Hit, grosse Reserven.

Smooth and juicy. First glass you get cold climate fruit (dark cherries), earthiness, a little bit of smoke, some barnyard notes, spiciness and some floral notes. With some air and a little bit warmer you also get sweet-ish strawberry and some oak. Dry with medium+ acidity. Nice long finish.

First time with this charming, ethereal cuvée from Pyramid Valley Vineyards, NZ. Lustrous medium ruby/red, persistently cloudy in appearance. Finely perfumed and youthful on the nose with - oh yes - smoke and earth, lively sour-cherry and wild raspberries. Lots of refreshing acidity, light to medium-bodied palate, not a lot of depth but rather enjoyable and ethereal in a silky style. Fair brightness and tension throughout, spicy and savoury. Interesting soft personality and expression. Ends on a fruit-driven note!

Immediately standing out is the incredibly vivid red strawberry hue in the glass. The aroma is distinct, characterized primarily by pronounced raspberry notes. Its straightforward profile is a testament to the wine's purity, capturing the essence of its name with subtle earthy undertones.
