Our first bottle was incredible (sourced from a retailer in the Rhone whose source is the Chateau). Yet all the subsequent acquisitions purchased in the US have been flawed. |

8/28/2016 - Matsutake wrote: NRBest vintage of this wine I have ever tried (I have 2005-2014 in the cellar). In fact one of the best whites I have ever had period. Not a 100 pointer because I need somewhere to go if it drinks better after a few years. That being said this was an incredible bottle showing perfect balance, elegance, complexity and length. Mind numbingly brilliant. 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (3) |

2010 Château de la Bourdiniere Muscadet de Sèvre-et-Maine Sur Lie "Tradition"Melon de Bourgogne more |
5/11/2013 - Matsutake wrote: 87 pointsFirst, I count myself lucky a drinkable, sub-10 USD, wine exists. This typical Muscadet is clearly a step above drinkable, let's go with conditionally quaffable. In my experience, drinking this too cold will kill the fruit, and make this wine austere in a bad way. Kind of like shrinkage. In a wine. |

2011 Château Mourgues du Gres Costières-de-Nîmes Galets RosésRed Rhone Blend more |
6/3/2014 - Matsutake Likes this wine: 88 pointsMourgues du Gres makes our favorite roses. Certainly not austere, as seems to be the fashion with some roses(basically rendering them cheap white wine colored pink). These clearly have a good fruitiness to them, typical red berry flavors (straw, rasp, etc.) that we expect from a rose, balanced with nice acid. Terrific summer sipping that also pairs well with a summer meal. This one drank well in summer 2014, but I would not have kept it for another year. |

9/5/2014 - Matsutake wrote: 88 pointsWe opened our first bottle within a month of arrival from Garagiste and universally hated it. The better half refused it after a single sip. It was muted and dull, cloudy and short. I hoped for post-travel settling, but after a year of going through 3 more of the six pack, we were just happy our mistake had not been a very expensive one. |

5/11/2013 - Matsutake Likes this wine: 89 pointsNeeded a few hours for the brett to blow off. Once it did, plenty of fruit and soil, balanced by acid/tannin, aging nicely and with still plenty of upside potential. I found the restraint admirable, must be a Gauby thing. |

2010 Garnier et Fils ChablisChardonnay more |
5/10/2022 - Matsutake wrote: 89 pointsCould this little Chablis survive over a decade? Yes, yes indeed it can. Gone is the harshness of the bottles we drank in 2014 and 2015, replaced by a nice refreshing thirst quencher that cuts fat and salt beautifully. I really expected sherry or vinegar but no oxidation to be found here. What a pleasant surprise! |

12/27/2011 - Matsutake wrote: 90 pointsReady to drink immediately. Not as beautifully golden or complex as the '06 Vernon from Vernay. Totally different in style being very oaked, which is kind of a weird thing to do to a Condrieu, IMHO. But the other half likes it, and it is clearly a good wine, just maybe not to everyone's tastes (or mine for that matter). |
