La Paulée de SF Gala Dinner (Fairmont Hotel, SF CA): Another wine where the adjectives just won't provide justice. Sensational and striking nose with intense spice, sweet red and black cherry. Aromas are endless. The palate is so rich and creamy yet lithe. More intense, persistent spice and smoke notes throughout. Wow.

I cannot imagine a more emotional and profound bottle than this, my second of two. While the first astonished, it actually was bested by a 2004 Leroy Les Perrieres on that night. This beautiful Corton-Charlemagne was simply at another level. Powerful, fresh and balanced, with a very reductive, smoky nose and additional a palate redolent of flint, sulfur, menthol, some sweet oak notes and an array of spices. More than the flavors on display, what made this wine so extra special was its effortless combination of strength and layered, lush texture.

Richebourg 2003 - incredibly deep, sensual and rich. So round and soft and opulent. Powerful but incredible balance. Touch of umami, savoury elements interwoven with ripe rich Dark and red fruits. Acidity comes through on the finish, skyscraper on the finish. Tannins completely resolved. Long finish. Exceptionally long. Defies the vintage. Shows the hallmarks of the hot summer, but somehow has retained acidity and backbone where most (if not all other 2003s haven’t managed to do so). One of the Great Wines, but can’t see upside from here, in its sweet spot now at 16 years of age. 100 pts. Bottle no. 447/1157.

Bourgogne 2002 tasting. Many top wines from some of the best producers, Rousseau, Roumier, DRC, Leroy etc; 3/28/2019-4/28/2019 (Restaurant Palægade, Copenhagen): Wow!! This is amazing. I am not sure my words can do this wine justice. It is cool on the nose with small red berries and a little smoke. So incredibly tasty with just the right amount of extract, stamina and red fruits, but kept in check by precisely the right level of acidity. The mouthfeel is marvelous too. I tend to score wines a bit higher than the average user here, - especially this type of wine. However I am left with nothing I could come up with that could enhance my experience with this wine and I can point to no wine in the world I would rather drink. Therefor I have to give 100 points (a first for me in here).

1993 Burgundy dinner. A wine that left me dumb and speechless. The aroma, intensity and purity encapsulated everything I love about wine in general and Burgundy in particular. Crazy opulent aromatic fireworks with white flowers and touch of acetone, as if someone broke a perfume bottle. Polished, clean, precise, sweet, intense and pure on the palate. Evolved into cherries. Miles ahead of DRC RSV and the 3x price premium suggests the market is highly efficient. Highly envious of those with some of the 800 bottles produced. Spinal Tap 11.

Absolutely one of the very best wines I have ever had the pleasure to drink. I opened this at a birthday bash along with several of my best bottles that I had been saving for a special occasion including 82 Pichon Lalande from magnum and 90 Guigal La Landonne. The Leroy was served in a flight along with a 90 Mugnier le Musigny and it was the Leroy that just blew everyone away with it's searing nose of sweet blackberry - and incredibly delicious flavors of intense blackberry and sweet cherry. The finish went on for days but it was the clear and explosive fruit tastes in this 17 year old burgundy that blew everyone's mind. If you are a true terroirist, you might downgrade this for not tasting as much like a classic grand cru as the Mugnier, but when a wine is as delicious as this, no one really seemed to care.

Medium ruby with a massive essence of cranberry and tayberry nose. Take a brambleberry pie and slam it into a Spiegelau burg glass, whip it up- and you start to understand how intense these 93's from Lalou are-enveloping the palate for at least 10 minutes in essence of red Burgundy! When we barrel tasted these in the mid 90's, they were so big, I wondered if someone had slipped some Cornas into the glass, but alas it was sacred pinot from the revered court of Richebourg ! Finish of smoky Vosne spices, exploding out the backend, and the olfactory persistence that dreams are made of. Best Burgundy ever-opened at peak, more concentrated and ethereal than any other pinot produced on the planet......maybe! Best now-2055. Very glad to have more!

The one with Madame Leroy (Bar a Thym): Right off the bat, easily the most haunting, sensual and perfumed bouquet I have ever bore witness to. Time stood still for a full minute. Simply sublime with macerated raspberries, five spice, dark cherries, cloves, sandalwood and dried luo han guo skin. Expansive palate showing great core of fruit with a sensual embrace - remarkably fresh for the 2000 vintage, with sweet spices, smoke with some mushrooms and ripe cranberries. Excellent finesse and volume culminating in a silky and graceful finish.

200 Burgundy Grand Crus from vintage 2000, 4-day blind tasting (Singapore): Simply stunning nose, elegant, floral, sweet spice, a bit lighter on the palate but I rather like it light than overdone. Wow, in the as good as it gets category. All the wines in this flight were stunning. A big sigh went through the room when it was announced that it was a Leroy producer flight and not a terroir flight. On the one hand you hate when the most expensive wines are the best ones, but then again you have to be in awe and happy for Madame when you see what she has achieved. Clearly DRC has fired the wrong person.

Suite Leroy Dinner (Hong Kong): 00280/903. Damn this is a popcorn wonderland. So incredibly rich, pinching precise, matchstick, sesame, intense potpourri, white florals, ocean, peach, river stone, earthy spice, toasted sugar. The palate is uniformly concise, flavourful yet with perfect balance, just mind-blowing, like a young Montrachet with all the nuances (similarly rich, with added dashing mineral profile like the best CC). Forever spicy finish, never-fading, sweet throughout. All the volume filled with all the substance. Flawless wine. 98-100

Sometimes we have a night with an extraordinary wine and this was last night. Cork was semi saturated but came out cleanly with an Ah-So. Light ruby and the nose started to open immediately. Decided against a decant and left it open for one hour. Translucent and drank very well right from the start. It was like a bowl of roses, extremely elegant and the finish seemed like it went on for 60 seconds. As fine a bottle of burgundy as I have ever had. Purchased three at release in 1998. Opened the first one two years ago at age 20 and it was disappointing, good drink but a bit off. Still have one left. This wine seems fully mature to me but definitely not over the hill. I would drink now.

A beautiful jeweled ruby, and to borrow a term, an OMFG nose. Vosne perfume, spicebox, cardamom, some juniper, more flowers than an FTD convention. A bouquet that fill severy alveola of your lung. All of this on the nose. On the palate, after several minutes of speechless joy, with my nose buried in the glass, I wrote. “I have no words for this, perfection”. Over time I was able to get a couple of words (not a big surprise). It was just a brilliant match of fruit, perfume, texture, focus, and balance. After that, as I was able to drink a good 8oz pour of this over the night (a beneficiary of one of my neighbors not liking this wine). Probably my second favorite pinot I have ever had. Crazy good. 99pts.

Heavenly experience! Still primary deep violet color, little sediment, no cloud. Immediately after opening, this perfumed with sweet vanilla nose at first. Then it unfurled gorgeously, the nose with a lot of red and black fruits, plum, sweet spices, roasted aroma. Brilliant, so-called " A hundred of flowers". On the palate, rich, full of fruit essence, rounded sweet tannin, and good acidity. Long finish with sweet fruit and vanilla. Still young, but already very much delicious. Probably the best experience I've had with a Domaine Leroy's wine. Wow!!
