This is Usain Bolt from the starting blocks with an explosive force that comes indescribably out of the glass. As with Mr. Bolt, the power is mixed with great charm and spreads with beautiful concentrated red berries with a predominance of raspberries, wet juicy orange peel, anise, expressive summer flowers, leather, nuts and really a deep strong rocky soil character that gives several layers. Real complex aromas.

Fantastic mouthfeel with energy and power thats remains linear and insanely delicate. This is silk. Fabulous fruit of red concentrated berries, road dust, tobacco, nuts, balsamic vinegar and expressive spice tones. Great acidity and world-class tannin structure. Wine for the next 20-30 years. This is power, this is energy, this balance. Perfection. 100 points.

This is barolo I did not take proper notes but I remember this wine fondly and this might have been the best bottle I drank in 2023.

Utterly fantastic, rich nose of tar, chocolate, flowers, rich, chewy elixir of ripe fruit, smooth silky tannins, complexity beyond description and hedonistic and intellectual captivating opulence. A wine of enormous length, this beauty has years and years ahead of it.

Had for our 17th anniversary……this was flat out fantastic!! Just open in bottle for 30mins…..first thing you notice is how dark and youthful the wine looks…..SO SO smooth and balanced to perfection….dark berry, dried concentrated fruits….but also has a freshness of crushed acidic berries like raspberry/cranberry…..killer dusty dry tannins well integrated but still firm….exotic florals and spices…potpourri of roses and citrus blossoms….as well as some aged leather, earth, chocolate orange rind, cinnamon stick. Can't ask for a better Barolo for my tastes!

14.5% alcohol. 24 months in used barriques and 15hl barrels. 8 months in steel, 8 months in bottle.
Clear red core, light orange border.

Tight with concentrated deep red core, yet so crazy delicate aromas. This is Julia Robert's charming smile throughout. Tight red fruit, dark powerful rose meadow, crushed pebbles, white pepper, salt, concentrated rose hip tea, leather and hints of exotic spice.

Pretty full-bodied and extremely fantastic Barolo. Electrical. Time stands still. tears in the eyes. This is Nebbiolo's answer to iron fist in a velvet glove. Tightly concentrated mouthfeel that calls out words such as masculine, tough, elegance and silk at the same time. Fabulous fruit that hits like a fist with fresh red berries, red fruit peel, light tar and a nice dried fruit edge on a long and fabulous finish with firm, yet so correct tannins.

Superb Barolo that few, if any, can make. Not a trace of excess sweetness or alcohol in the wine. Impressive. 98 points

Dark, muddy colour.
High toned, violets, red berries and blueberry, hint of earth. Beautiful.
Rich, very intense, powerful and long. Crisp clean finish with plentiful mouth coating tannins. Perfect balance and youthful for its style. Gorgeous blueberry fruit, licorice and tar flavours, stunning, years ahead.

The wine looks crimson colored. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like red currant, fig, prune, stoniness and cedar. It tastes like red currant, mineral and prune. The body is full. The wine has coarse texture. The wine finishes long. After a 45min. decant wine still needed more time to open up. Still could have aged longer.

Breathtaking. Subtle, ripe, feminine. Gentle in its complexity and utterly moving.

This has the stuff to thread the needle for… 5 years? 15? And there’s a reasonable chance it will get even more ethereal. But it’s a dream today so I'd drink now with 2 hours' aeration.

MY GOD....what a wine! This is EXACTLY what I want my Italian wines to taste like. Beautiful fresh crushed berries, dried cherry/cranberries....dusty cedar tannins, earth/cinnamon stick spice, old leather, chocolate orange zest, some Indian spice as well......BUT BUT BUT, the FLORALS are what is AMAZING! Beautiful potpourri of roses and citrus blossoms...along with the dried berries and spices are what makes this wine! Super integration of the citrus acid and dusty tannin from the 14yrs of age. Will have no problem going 14 more!

Medium-light red, with some sediment already. This wine was opened at 2:45 p.m., decanted for four hours, returned to its bottle, placed inside a refrigerator for 15 minutes, and taken to a restaurant, where it was consumed initially around 7:30 p.m.

Upon opening, I could detect on the nose a bit of cherry, tobacco, and redcurrant. In the mouth, it was already showing well, with loads of dark fruit and good complexity, but the tannins were a bit overpowering. It was tasted with both a Bordeaux and with a Burgundy glass, and it was better in the first one.

After one hour, the wine shut down completely in the decanter - all I could smell now was wood, and the wine seemed very light and oaky in the mouth. I confess I got a little worried, because the latest TNs here mentioned the same experience.

When rebottled after four hours, things had improved a lot - it was much more like when I opened the bottle than what I had seen in my latest try. At this point, it was a 94 pts wine - great, but not exceptional. The tannins in particular were still obtrusive at the end.

However, when served during dinner, the bottle had fully integrated. And what a wine - it had incredible depth, and a palette of flavours which was really impressive. This is a layered, complex, structured, delicious wine. The tannins were silky by then, which allowed the looong finish of this La Serra to be enjoyed fully. A wow wine for sure!

96-97pts, and I would say at its peak, with many years still left. However, decanting is necessary to be able to enjoy it now at its fullest.

Brick and tawny red colour. Still quite deeply coloured.
Deep black cherry, plum, damson and tar spice. Equally weighted by a lovely sweet leathery earthy fragrance which is smooth and rich.
Med weight, fleshy, rich dark fruits and leathery earthy flavours finishing with substantial fine grained tannins. Fruit and secondary flavours in perfect balance. Blueberry, ink, sherbet zest, fruitcake, soft warm plums. A delight.

On the nose I thought this was almost equally open and pretty compared to the Rocche dell'Annunziata. On the palate however it showed much tighter with more grip and power. Impressive finish, lots of minerality. Needs time. 95-96+

Decanted two hours and enjoyed over the next two. Garnet core to a bricking orange rim. Cut red flowers, thyme, raspberry and cherry on the nose lead to and elegant palate full of strawberry, red cherry, red currant, and vanilla.

Really graceful wine with velvet tannins, great depth, and a 45-second finish. This is terrific right now with a great balance of texture, length, acidity, and concentration. Will age for five years but is showing beautifully at the moment.

This wine is drinking beautifully right now- and goes great with a grilled veal chop and pasta primavera (all the veggies and herbs from the garden)- purchased a few years ago from Sotheby’s retail at $107 per bottle (a steal)... ruby in color, lots of raspberries, herbs and a touch of tarragon and tar... the tannins are integrating well but a tiny bit chalky at this point - leading to savory, mouthwatering long finish. A lovely wine that should improve over the next 8-10 years...

Roberto Voerzio Tasting (Vino Italiano Waltham): Wow; really quite arresting. Such a gorgeous cherry perfume, so pure and deep. Rose, spice, tar accents. Layers upon layers in the nose. My hand spent so much time holding the glass it did not take enough notes, but the wine was compelling.

Had at The Herbfarm in Seattle.
Decanted 2 hours, but really started to shine after 4.5 hours. Tasted over 5 hours with dinner.
Color: Garnet with faint bricking at rim.
Nose: Cherry, strawberry, tar, roses and touch of soy sauce.
Palate: Bright cherry and strawberry, very floral, tons of roses. No mushroom or tea yet. Massive acidity, very fine, tight grained tannin.
Overall: Still in its youth, an incredible wine with plenty of years ahead. Classic Barolo in every way. 96 pts. non blind.

Intact, but fully soaked, almost to end of, cork. Slow oxed 6 hrs then decanted and enjoyed over 2 hours with perfectly rendered Martio Batali's T-Bone Fiorentina with Sauteed Spinach. Elegant, fully mature, absolutely bodacious (haven't used that word in awhile) nose and palate. Fully integrated tannins and perfectly balancing acidity form the foundation for the peacock tail of ripe still somewhat crisp red fruits, tar/shoe polish, roses, and camphor/menthol/eucalyptus to unfold in a sleek, rich, medium bodied, stylish package. Great winemaking, terroir and vintage, this is absolutely world class and represents the best side of "Modern." Good for another 10 years plus, no rush, but no reason to wait if well stored and slow oxed, this begins to fall apart at the end with tannins and structure asserting themselves. This gives high end, well made, grand cru Burgundy a run for its money. Wow! 96pts, easily.

Decanted 6 hours at cellar temp and then re-poured back into clean bottle. (brought to restaurant.) Cork had 1999 listed. Dark, but not inky with some brown tones to the appearance. Full rich nose of underbrush, damp earth and tart blackberry. Tannins are nicely in balance now as the finish goes on and on. While this pares wonderfully with food, the wine seems to demand sipping due to its enjoyable complexity. WOTN for the four tasting it. I'm sure there are better wines out there, but I have yet to taste them.
