5/23/2024 - fredb Likes this wine: NRDark red color with some purple highlights. Limited transparency. Decanted and consumed over 3 hours. Initially disjoint with tannic barrel bite in front of a highly polished black cherry, iron, smoke, and roasted meat palate. With some food and 15 minutes of air, this subsides and this drinks really well as a young wine with characteristics of Gevrey-Chambertin and 2017 both on display. After about an hour and after the meal ended this started to shut down and show less dimension. Not a crime to drink now but expect it to further close down before emerging in early maturity around 2030. Drink now with decant and food or hold. |

What shocked me, and I am no Mortet expert in the slightest, was just how tightly coiled this 15 year-old still is. I kept coming back thinking of this would budge just a bit more and allow the structure to roll down its windows the wine would be marvelous!!! All the necessary stuffing to go the distance with red and black fruit, loads of minerality, spice box, smoke, firm structure but not over powering rather- firm and abundant with a wonderful finish. Would love to try again in 5 years. Hold 93+ |

On taste - young fresh fruit expands delicately on your palate, fine tannins with a spice finish on the back end. Long finish. The body is light and expansive - not your typical Burgundy. Very elegant and alluring. As you taste over time you appreciate the delicate fruit underlying the wine. Very nice. At this point it is very primary and fruit driven. |
