The nose is filled with the scent of ripe fruits, cherries, and a subtle hint of spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with a beautifully balanced acidity and tannin structure that gives it a smooth and velvety texture. The finish is long and satisfying, leaving a lingering taste of dark fruits and a hint of spice.

Cork had same seepage as my prior bottle from a few years ago. didn't breach the end of the cork though. Dark berry, plum fruit. A little earthy, but note quite as good as my prior bottle. Perhaps fading and should have drank sooner. Still quite nice, but did not live up to previous experience.

On the nose, the wine begins with some funk, then blows off a bit to bright orange citrus and astringency.

The initial attack of the wine presents warmth on the palate, evolving to some stemminess, with Apricot, Marmalade, finishing to chalkiness and acid.

Wow - great wine and super enjoyable! Recommended, but YMMV depending on your affinity for orange wine.

Color: inky crimson, dark at the core but warm at the rim. Nose consists of stewed red berries, decaying old wet wood, reduction, and a touch of scotch whisky cask (some negative elements but improved with aeration). In the mouth, some fizziness, that lifts the already rounded cooked fruits to give some weightless feeling (a bit flat like Bret contaminated wines, but at charming level) - not tannic or acidic, but concentrated like dried fruit candy combined with mild/cooked spices of Worcestershire sauce. Some bitterness at the aftertaste. At least having excellent energy of red fruit, but otherwise tastes like an inexpensive sparkling red made in Lambrusco style (although the fizz is not as strong as that). Nothing wrong with that, but for the $35+ price point, it’s a bit of a disappointment.

Gorgeous black! The depths of fruits with tars, earth, hell. Smelled like hell. A hot pitted hell. A touch of Statan’s ass, and glowing pomace, volcanic aromas. Dry decaying straws with some old grasses. Might be a dried out hill in a drought that suddenly got bathed in some sort of black juice.
Amid all of that there’s a freshness that arises to tell of some putrid bucket of old garden juice that still is pure by its alcohol content. There’s a roasted beef rump in there. It’s a crusted over cooked roast with carrots and onions with lots of beefy broth. All of this mixed with Satan’s ass. Yep, such a great wine. Saddam, roll over cuz I’m gonna drink from your bud’s butt.

Palate:
Big swig revealed some crazy garlic side notes, char, scorched earth (trite I know, but fits) volcanic smoldering stones with lots of holes in them like pomace, smoke and more smoke, like I’m tasting what was cooking in Time Bandits’ oven at the end. This is CRAZY good. I LOVE this shiz! OMG good. Now this is what a wine is supposed to bring, as it’s super complex and brings something unique to the palate to shock it, to force my lexicon to describe what’s going on. Yes, I love Neal Rosenthal! Will always buy these bottles. Which makes me so sad that Rare Wine Co sale today hit me on a budgetary low! I would have bought EVERYTHING if I had had the means. Only picked up two cases. So sad. Saw those Mercurey and Cornas from Lionet, but didn’t have the frais quoi.

Ho God good! This wine is my favorite or so many reasons. It’s hell. It’s smokey embers all around as I wake from a vision, a dream to find that all my surroundings are in conflagration. Yes, the word for this wine is conflagration-esc. Goddam awesome!

Why ever go for Cabernet-Sauvignon, when this is here. Perricone, ancient grape unique to Sicily, gives all of this to my enjoyment and surprise. What would Jeshua drink? WWJD? THIS! He would say to his guests, “My fellow brethren in the Covenant of Abraham, we have finally subdued Satan, and he is here in this bottle! Let us consume of its essence and liberate our foe into the light of each of our hearts for our betterment and salvation! Earth and its peoples be free from the adversary on this night, and let us all celebrate that death not have sway upon our souls, that the Elohim hast brought this juice to our lips to, at last, vanquish all darkness by it’s imbibement to its unification in our light! Now, raise your glass of this Perricone and toast to the light and liberty to the world!”

2500 years old at least, this grape was used to blend with other varietals to give more color, higher alcohol, more flavor. So, yes, this deserves to be on that list of WWJD. Thick skins with lots of polyphenols and anthocyanins to impart incredible goodness. This 2016 version, spontaneously fermented gives a very raw, primal, bloody wine to connect with our ancestors. Mine, for sure, went through Sicily in the 11th Century AD, liberating the ancient soils from the Muslims. Follow the history of the Normands, the Vikings who settled in Northern France, who went to Italy to engage the Byzantines, then on to Sicily. Perricone was there when Roger and his armies took it over. Don’t think that grapes have genetic memory? Think again. This wine will assuredly connect you to it’s dense past of élévage. It will bring visions of times unknown to your body.

God good!
Each smell brings a volcano of pleasure. It is as if I were born in a body of lava and roaming the land burning everything around with my flaming footsteps, then a vigneron dropped a keg of this onto my head. As the juice boiled and steamed all over my body I tasted of its mother’s nature and likened it unto her juice and I stopped my destructive rage. Sat down and contemplated the meaning of my existence.
This wine can stop the lava man!

Oh God the smell!
Touches of flaming garlic. Molten stone, burning rocks, charr, fresh berry held up by clouds of smoke for those who dipped their jaws down to scoop up the combo.
Fantastic palate of smoke and roasted animal, charred flesh, blood, juices of tarry berry. Gotta drink more, but alas, this is my last bottle!

I was initially turned off by the bottle spritz evident upon opening, but on day 4, this is almost gone. I tend to admire lighter wines, but this is pretty good (rated on day four). Warm climate wine, heavily extracted, yet well balanced. Paolo Bea's influence is positively exhibited here.

I admire Il Censo and what they are trying to do in partnership with Paolo Bea, but so far I don't like their wines much. My first of theirs, a 2014 Perricone Njuro opened five years ago, was flawed and undrinkable. This one (LNDAGAR201120) is certainly drinkable, with lots of great raw material in the bottle, but I just don't like the style of the end product much. Consumed over two nights, on night one the effervescence was off-putting (84), and thankfully was much less prominent on night two (88). For context, I like fizzy reds, and at one point in my life sought them out. I've had many great, high-quality Lambrusco wines during my years living in Italy, some also from the Oltre Po Pavese, and for a few years in the US I drank a lot of fizzy reds from Australia. So, the fizz itself does not put me off, it's how it overwhelms the raw material and hides the inherent goodness of the wine. What's hidden is its aromatic and flavor complexity, with a myriad of dark fruits and spices supported by good acidity and modest tannins. FYI, it's 13.5% ABV, so kudos to them for keeping the alcohol in check. It's a small-production wine (5300 bottles) but that is not enough to justfy the high price.

Mineral and leather notes similar to a Chianti. Obviously from a warmer region with bigger, fleshy fruit, which falls off rather quickly and the acid kicks in. Robust enough and good with tomato based dishes.

8/26: Truly orange in color, cloudy (unfined, unfiltered). The wine needed a little bit of air to start showing its aromatics. My first impressions were of flowers and stones baking in the sun, then white fig jam and canned peaches with singed citrus rind. The palate is incredibly intense, bordering on too much of everything. Almost syrupy, but then the acidity kicks in to liven it up. Noticeably sticky tannins. A long finish that ends with some brown sugar and peppery heat.

8/28: The aromatics were a little more intense, but the palate remained the same.

Definitely an interesting “orange” wine. It paired well with curry and teriyaki dishes. Will I seek it out again? The jury is still deliberating.

Tastes like Sangiovese on steroids, but it's probably an indigenous varietal, probably Nero. I love it! Maybe I need to re calibrate my position on Sicilian wines. This producer is renowned for his Tuscan wines; His effort in Sically is experimental. I say that the experiment has been a success. Well balanced wine.

Some very slight effervescence with some nice barnyard funk. Medium to full body. 14% ABV. Dark robe. Fragrant nose. Almost silky smooth with some mild tannic structure on the mid palate into finish. This wine is in a great place and drinking beautifully. Dark berries, some ripe plum, vibrant fruit. Nice balance and complexity. I will be seeking out more!

700's signature is a distinct sweet core of baked apples, sweet prunes, and Ceylon cinnamon. The aromas don't give too much away - juicy dark blackberries, cocoa dusted raspberries, and cherry leather could go left to bright acid or right to dark concentrate. Right we go into a rich cauldron of sweet stewed fruits. Open on a cold night with a breeze. This thing will fill your belly and keep you warm.

If you've ever seen a bottle of Paolo Bea wine from Umbria, something about the label here will quickly grab your attention. All you need is a glance to realize it's either outright plagiarism or homage. Fortunately for all involved it's a collaboration, with Paolo's son Giampiero providing the coaching for this Sicilian property and their wines featuring native grapes like catarratto, perricone and here nero d'avola. This is only the second nero vintage.

Very much in the Bea style, the wines are practicing biodynamic and employ handmade, non-interventionist techniques throughout. The net is a determined but attractive rusticity that yields a slightly wild version of nero that could easily be confused with a Bea sagrantino-based wine if you weren't paying attention. I don't know if this represents a winemaker's signature or just letting the grape do it's thing, but I like it, a lot.

It's a fierce dark red color, quite opaque at the center. Nose has notes of blueberry and dark red berry and plum with a mineral vein. Ample body but not over-jacked as most nero is, only 13.5% which seems semi-miraculous. Notes of cocoa creep in on the rustic but not aggressive finish. A touch of VA seems to color the final impression but it's in character and not off-putting.

This is a breakthrough nero for me, altering my paradigm for the better. It would be fantastic with pizza, pasta or most anything red or meaty in Italian cuisine. Apparently the first nero d'avola ever imported by Neil Rosenthal, which should tell you something.
