7/9/2016 - wineforth Likes this wine: 91 pointsLeaner fruit this time. Blackcurrant, graphite and liquorice. Long. Still lots of tannin to soften. Drink now or over the next decade. |

7/7/2016 - dchain Likes this wine: 92 pointsLovely deep garnet/ruby colour. No signs of age. Lovely open and creamy vanilla cassis nose. Surprised how elegant and open the nose was. Really fresh and uplifting with delicate earth and tabacco notes and nothing massive or over powering about it. On the palate it is delicious, creamy fruit with lovely balance and length, open and approachable now and a great wine for those who want an approachable L-B which is just entering its secondary complexity. At $80/bt at auction this is a great deal and well worth seeking out. Enjoy with confidence if it comes from a good source (which goes without saying!) |

7/7/2016 - Rackit Likes this wine: 91 pointsPale yellow color. Tropical fruit, grapefruit and a bit of green grass on the nose (in a good way). This is much weightier, fuller in the mouth and a bit waxier on the palate than it looks. A bit surprising to be honest. Nice acidity. Nice complexity. Nice value overall. |

7/1/2016 - englishman's claret wrote: 96 pointsBeautiful bottle (good cork, top shoulder) and beautiful contents. No doubt past its prime, but if you enjoy old claret this is a real treat - still so much Lynch Bages character. While there now is a lot of mahogany/treacle old-wine notes, the score is really derived from the truly exquisite cassis, mint, pencil, leather, chocolate notes that remain. It's completely polished in its old age; no seams. The palate has seen better days, but with these old clarets it's mainly about the nose anyway. I could certainly understand a lot of people not appreciating this, but I found so much to love. I imagine that the 85 will be a lot like this in 25 years or so. This, like the 66 Mouton, also underscores the point that some of these old wines really do need time to open out in the decanter; this required about 30 minutes to open fully and lasted beautifully for the hour and a half until we had finished the bottle. However if you have any, it is clearly time to drink them now. |

6/30/2016 - SMHalps Likes this wine: 94 pointsHad this at a Mutton tasting. It was double decanted before being brought to the restaurant, so it has plenty of time to breathe. It was delicate and probably entering its final phase of its drinking window. Surprisingly it went great with the mutton. A real treat. |

6/23/2016 - JulianSkeels wrote: 94 pointsFrom a good bottle, lovely deep persistance and depth but pretty monolithic (not much flavour complexity) and nose is faint. Very ferous on the finish with an almost parmasan nose on opening (disappears with air). Drank alongside a pristine bottle of the 85 which reallly showed better in almost every way. I don't own more 82, and would strongly suggest buying the 85 instead... Do you find this review helpful? Yes - No / Comments (1) |

6/23/2016 - JulianSkeels Likes this wine: 95 pointsFlash double-decant and this was ready to go with only 10mins in the glass. The wine is still cruising along - no change from my last notes, and no hurry to drink up. Good bottles will last until 2030 at least - this is nowhere near decline. Drank a bottle alongside Lynch 82 - this has faaaar more nose and complex flavours. Not quite the depth, but just as much mid and back-palate (with air) as the 82. Nose is almost St Julien cedar but taste is all Paulliac. Fresher than I remember - and actually getting even better. 95-96pts. |

6/20/2016 - daegde Likes this wine: 89 pointsGarnet colored with medium legs. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. Decanted 1 hour before dinner. It smells like eucalyptus, cedar and lead pencil which carries over into the taste. Body is on the light side of medium. The wine has narrow texture and finishes short. The tannic backbone of this wine has given way to an almost unpleasant tartness. Drink-up its not going to improve. |

Dark ruby color with very little sediment. Glad I've got two more to hold onto for a while. Very enjoyable now but plenty to count on for it getting better. No hurry to open next one. |

6/18/2016 - Francois Le Mouel Likes this wine: 92 pointsLike a beautiful old lady. We decided not to decant, but I would actually recommend a quick 15-minute decant. Still has quite some life in it. Typical sweet tobacco, forest floor, mushrooms...and red berries! Always fun to drink an "old style" Pauillac. Drink within the next 5 years. |
