12/24/2012 - WineCPA Likes this wine: 92 pointsBig buttery and creamy on the palate. Hints of lemon. Lots of oak. Not sure it's a great QPR, but still a great example of a big California Chard. Very Good! |

11/21/2012 - Chainthroer wrote: 95 pointsI also brought this wine to the SAFW tasting. Quite similar to my tasting of the wine on 7-29-11, except the nose is not so closed as it had been. The nose consists of complex aromas of lemon, baked apple, tropical fruit, butter. In the mouth, flavors of baked apple, lemon custard and minerals. The oak is restrained and nicely integrated into the wine. A long and extended finish. This wine has evolved into a fabulous chardonnay. |

12/10/2012 - jc-mmb Likes this wine: 89 pointsnon blind and only my second encounter with this winery. lovely clarity in the glass. nose of mineral, acid, lemon. palate is dominated (?to a fault) with acidic fruit and brazen minerality. missing roundness for sure. kept waiting for the balance to appear but it never did. finish was as expected and shorter than should have been. hopeful that this will come around. i am not against non creamy, burgundian style chard, i just think this (or any wine) should have balance, and this didn't. |

6/9/2012 - yossarian.livez wrote: 88 pointsThe most saline and burgundian though mineral component works nicely and a lovely balance between new and old world. Lemon, lemon rind with more pear than apple flavor. Plenty of acidity while being medium bodied with great mouth feel. Balanced. |

6/9/2012 - yossarian.livez wrote: 87 pointsVery nice, though the most introverted of the three Varner Chards. Nice nose. Maybe a bit closed, and enough acidity to wait. The oak frame is a bit noticable, but this isn't your bombastic Napa Chard. Light on it's feet, more buttered popcorn than brown butter and a bit less voluminous than Amphitheater. |
