4/26/2024 - Francophile1 Likes this wine: 93 pointsWow! This wine has come a long way since I last tasted it. Previous tasting, it was closed and tough as nails. Tonight, it is open for business and drinking wonderfully. Some might call this a slurpy because it has a flamboyance and exotic fruit character on the finish. The reason I enjoy Volnay and Gevrey is that it combines what I enjoy about new world Pinot with the earth and terroir from Burgundy. This has a wonderful earthy nose with minerals and truffle. Lovely wine. Too bad it is my last bottle. |

Crisp acidity and oaky on the mid-palate and aftertaste, one gets a hint of muscadine along with a rich mouthfeel. Should hold and improve another 2 years at least. |

On pouring - reductive nose - GCSE chemistry called and it wants its rubber hose back. On the palate - lovely breadth - clearly Chardonnay, almost certainly Burgundy - is it a top producer from one of those remote villages producing something awesome - like a Ferret Pouilly-Fuissé? We were told no - it's a well known village...this is proper kit, maybe less acid and linearity than I'd expect from a relatively young Chassagne but...a lovely drop. |

Blocky, primary nose of Chard; medium grip of new oak/honeyed butter; Meursault hazelnuts for sure; steel shavings, foundry smoke; rustic, with no pretty florality in there at all; it's stern on the nose. The fruit is there, but the winemaking is strong. The palate is unlike the nose: round, generous, primary yet (so young), a bit blocky with oak and winemaking but that will definitely integrate. Decent length, but without nuance or seduction. My only caveat is the wine evinces no charm, no joy — it's all structure and form, at least for now. It's a sound, muscular Meursault that is not my style but certainly will be for others (my preference runs to finesse and beauty, and this is a bigger, tougher wine than that). Its pedigree shows. |

Very gentle aromas of something like fennel or some other earthy floral tone supporting faint orchard fruit, leaning toward yellow apple rather than green, and a touch of cream. Very nice powdery, chalky kind of mineral texture. A bit tough to get a bead on- maybe needed more air, or a few years aging. |
