4/15/2024 - Mon.Maultiere Likes this wine: 92 points

Drunk with beef casserole for lunch. 13%. Deep dark dulled garnet. Farmyard, pot-pourri, sour cherries, dark forest fruits and mushroom. Previous bottles have been too tannic and rough but this is now beginning to mellow and gain better balance. It is robust rather than elegant. Good acidity, still some fruit, softening tannins and nice length. Best bottle yet - no rush.

Bertrand's Wine Dégustation (Beaune Burgundy): Walkaround tasting with the producers. Now this is really old school, for better and worse. Big black fruit, meaty and well spiced, ey so tannic and backward. There is enough of everything to remain in slumber together for the next decade+, but it's difficult right now to assess when where. how this will emerge from that hibernation. I wouldn't touch a bottle until 2033 or later, but think there is 90+ point potential here.

Served blind, and we were quite confused. Has a chalky feel, could be Beaujolais, could be Loire, but it's Corton (of course it is). It's light, prette red fruit, a wee bit closeed, but quite elegant. Better in five years.

Farven sortrød granat. Meget klar, men ikke skinnende. Pæn dybde, man kan se bunden. Duften pæn åben. Noget rustik med mørk frugt, sure kirsebær, oliven og rødt kød. Senere noget kaffe og kolonial. Smagen noget lukket. Har masser af syre og tannin. Også noget frugt. Mørkfrugtet og rustik. Stor koncentration og meget potent. Pæn lang eftersmag. Er slet ikke moden endnu. En decideret madvin

Transparent tawny.
Aromas of dark cherry, roasted chestnut, licorice, violet, truffle and singed pine wood.
Supple yet energetic tannins. Blackcurrant acids and chocolate bitterness.
Medium body. Palate of ripe plum, cherry liqueur, dark chocolate, aniseed, lavender and baked soil. A rustic, rather muscular and typical Corton with not charming but potent fruit, gorgeous chocolatey bitterness, integrated oak and a fresh floral finish. Needs more time to blossom. Tasted 2024.
Tasted alongside Gustave Lorentz, La Limite, Pinot Noir, 2015 and the present wine is complex, elegantly balanced and fruiter in comparison.

Post EdShereen late night session at home. My bottle. Drank in Grassl Cru.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of smoky herbs, Lapsang Souchang tea, ferrous minerality, earthiness, dark red cherries. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium alcohol (13.5%), strong structured almost high tannins, almost full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of dark red cherries, dark plums, earthiness, smoky herbs, minerality, structured meatiness. Long finish.
Very very good quality. Still feels like it can age 10 years more! Corton that is going for power rather than elegance. Impressive for 2004.

Terroir-istes International - France, Burgundy, Vougeot (Overgaauw Wine Estate): (Tasted Blind): A light+ garnet towards a mahogany rim suggests some age. The nose confirms the undergrowth but also brings out aromas of violet, red berries, wild mint and dried rose petals.
There is plenty of fruit on the palate, though also a fair amount of oak, giving the palate a sumptuousness. However, I also got some stem inclusion with peppery qualities mixing with redcurrant and blackberry, all balanced by a lively acidity. The tertiary elements creep up slowly as the wine evolves in the glass. The tannins were soft and gravelly, and the wine accommodating suggestive of a warmer year, possibly 2009.

Winetasting Burgundy vintages 2002 and 2005 (13 bottles): This half blind tasting focused on "middle class" Burgundy mainly from 2002 and 2005. Overall conclusion: All vintages are still performing well. Vintage 2002 is charming, easy to drink, still good concentration, rounded tannins. 2005 is dark, has more alcohol, higher tannins, more acidity, very good balance.

This wine: Dominated by cherry, strawberry and forest flor. Medium acidity and tannin.

Denis Mortet horisontal vintage 2003 Winetasting dinner (16 btls) (Nordsjælland): Tasted 11 cuvees from Denis Mortet vintage 2003 and 5 other domaines for comparison reasons. We are talking about one of the most criticized vintages, but the tasting was a surprise. I gave 90 points or more to 9 out of 11 cuvees. All wines were garnet in color showing the tertiary development stage, but not too much, which I personally find un charming. The winner was Le Chambertin which I scored 97 closely followed by Clos de Vougeot (96). No. 3 was Lavaux St. Jacques (93).

This wine: One of the outsiders but from 2002. Even though 2002 is a better vintage than 2003 Ambroise is far from Denis Mortet Clos de Vougeot 2003. Medium garnet color. Rustic style. High tannin which I believe will not have time to soften as the fruit has left the bottle to a big extent.

Just a lovely expression of Corton. Drinking super well right now. Pretty but with some ripeness. I wouldn't hesitate to crack one if you have multiple bottles, but there is definite upside if you like more aged wines.

This wine is fabulous. My note from 2020 stands though it continues to evolve and integrate. Note the style - this is a big, extracted style of burgundy. That said the fruit has soaked up the oak and left a warm, black cherry fruited and earthy nectar that really does bring a smile. Delicate? Nah. But every now and then it’s fun to step on the wild side. I may be underestimating this. It’s really good. (93)

Excellent aromatic richness with plum, cloves, iron dominating.
