1/19/2024 - Brett H Likes this wine: 93 pointsMy 8th bottle and no bottle variation as yet for me. Lovely nose and fantastic acidity - the amount of acidity is reminding me of Chianti Rufina wine, but the sweet, fruit and tertiary fruit does not. |

1/7/2024 - Brett H Likes this wine: 91 pointsHave always found this wine a little underwhelming and lacking complexity. It’s good, but I will probably not go out of my way to buy again. They seem to have too many cru type wines that suck away the best fruit from this riserva and anata leaving both a bit sterile |

2010 Fontodi Chianti ClassicoChianti Classico DOCG Sangiovese more |
1/7/2024 - Brett H Likes this wine: 94 pointsI really enjoyed this bottle, it was well balanced and had the perfect amount of age for my taste - though could age longer and improve in flavour though not sure the balance will get better. There is still some sour cherry flavour, but also rich tertiary characteristics such as mushrooms, spice, cigar and leather. Good nose, but thought the nose on previous bottles was better |

2006 Fattoria Le Pupille (Elisabetta Geppetti) Riserva Poggio ValenteMorellino di Scansano Sangiovese more |
1/3/2024 - Brett H Likes this wine: 93 pointsStill a tannic beast, not sure if they added a lot of press wine to this as I’ve not had many Sangioveses this old that have still been so tannic - acidic yes, tannic no. Last bottle I had was 2 years ago and there was a lot more fruit. Whilst it is a complex and interesting wine, I’ve always wanted more of both but never really got it. Maybe it’s because of its age I wanted it to be better, it’s still really good. |

2016 Demaria Bartolomeo BaroloNebbiolo more |
12/3/2023 - Brett H Likes this wine: 90 pointsThis surprised to the upside as it was a supermarket purchase. Really reticent nose, however it provided the flavour profile you’d want from a Barolo that is still on the youngish side, but with some limited tertiary flavours on finish. It’s not that complex, quite tannic and acidic and reasonably well balanced. Should be able to age another 10 years. |

2013 Tenuta Mara Sangiovese di Romagna MaraMiamore |
11/11/2023 - Brett H wrote: 92 pointsHas really good aromatics, that remind me of a well aged Pinot Noir. Great mature flavour too, however the wine is a little unbalanced and lacks acidity which is a bit surprising and disappointing and leads to an average mid palate and finish. If it had the acidity one would expect it would have rated a lot higher. Given the lack of acidity this is more aperitif territory than drinking with with a red sauce or fatty meat. |

2009 Maison Roche de Bellene Latricières-ChambertinLatricières-Chambertin Grand Cru Pinot Noir more |
11/13/2023 - Brett H Likes this wine: 100 pointsA clear and transparent ruby red. Glowing, but with some notes of age. Amazing aromatics on the nose, though was initially reserved, but as it opened it added ripe red fruit notes, earth, and some undertones of wood and spice. On the palate, it had a unique intensity of fruit, spice and electricity that was differentiating and oozed dry extract and minerality on the mid palate. Beautiful brambly red fruit, iron, earth and hint of spice. Amazing energy and youthfulness but still gracefully mature. The texture had that often sought after sense of concentration without weight…of body and structure without any heaviness. A long and finely balanced finish of great refinement combined with the power of the vintage. Really fantastic stuff. In a great space, but must have 45-60 minutes of air. |

5/13/2023 - Brett H Likes this wine: 97 pointsLovely Bandol. Still going strong and still very tannic, but really well balanced. Very much in the tertiary stage, but still ascending to the summit and I feel it could be another 5 years at least before it gets there. |

5/8/2021 - Brett H wrote: 86 pointsTastes like soft and fruity jug chianti. Whilst pleasant it’s not good value for money given you can purchase Chianti Classico for the same or less. Lacks acidity and tannin. Bit too modern for me. Will not buy again |

12/20/2020 - Brett H Likes this wine: 100 pointsYou bloody Beauty! A great bottle. One of the best wine experiences I’ve had in many a year. Bought this for £95 (half what you’d pay now retail) at a furniture auction as the levels looked decent. I reckon it must be one of the best wine purchases I’ve ever made. Grants of St James’s label. Phenomenal balance and length of flavour with a finish that goes on and on for eternity. An intoxicating nose that fills the house (my wife came through the front door and it hit her like a bloody sledgehammer) and whilst definitely that of an old VP it also riminds me a bit of a good ol’ Aussie Liqueur Muscat. The palate is all spicy raisins, overripe fig, Agen prunes and some caramel (think PX sherry) with no heat at all from the spirit which I so often find in pre-2011 VPs. There is also a lovely refreshing acidity and surprisingly a reasonable amount of tannic grip - given its balance the wine could last another decade at least. Note to self: buy and drink more port! 2 people found this helpful, do you? Yes - No / Comments (2) |

10/5/2019 - Brett H Likes this wine: 93 pointsWow! Wasn’t expecting this to be at its peak or so damn good. Wonderful earthy and complex raspberry nose, a lot of complexity on the palate with the same flavours. One of Dad’s that had been in his cellar. |

8/27/2019 - Brett H Likes this wine: 92 pointsPale straw in colour with a nice nose. Sweet peach and apple fruit flavours which are absolutely delicious, but are short and lacking in length. There is nice acidity and it’s a balanced wine, I’m just concerned it lacks length and what this means moving forward. I enjoyed this wine more in its youthful exuberance. |

6/16/2019 - Brett H wrote: 91 pointsReally light in colour considering the age loads of minerality and acidity, but not as much fruit as when I had it a couple of years ago. Flavour is also on the less exuberant side given the vintage. Peach and citrusy flavour profile. A bit short too with a watery finish. |

2013 Fattoria Poggiopiano Chianti Classico La TradizioneChianti Classico DOCG Sangiovese Blend, Sangiovese more |
6/8/2019 - Brett H Likes this wine: 92 pointsReally like this wine. It is a Sangiovese with everything in excess: sour cherry, acidity, tannin. Combined it has balance and persistence. The wine is starting to peak, but has many more years left in it. Disappointed this was my only bottle, must try and find more. |

5/19/2019 - Brett H Likes this wine: 94 pointsVery good! Great balance, length and complexity. The finish just goes on and on. Starting to develop some truffley overtones, but still a lot of primary fruit. Could improve for another 5-10 years |

4/13/2019 - Brett H Likes this wine: 88 pointsA truffley Sangiovese nose and the same flavour profile, but both are on the light side. There are sour cherries too, more than I expected. Nice acidity which has certainly helped this annata age, but the flavour is fading. Doesn’t have much length or finish apart from the acidity. It was tempting to rate it higher given its held up so well. It’s 12.5% too - I wish Chianti Classico these days was this low. Drink up |
