Bold, not a lot of acid, fruit well balanced, notes of leather, incredibly smooth. This is one of our favorite wines we’ve discovered so far.

Very nice Cab with a lot of cedar, veg and some chocolate and blackberries in the nose. The taste was fully integrated with some dark fruit notes. The finish was okay but a bit short. Overall it was good but showing it's age and will have to rethink my wine cellar drinking decisions. So difficult to give Dehlinger a score under 90 but it's just not there and I have 2 more bottles to drink up,

90+ pts

Opened and decanted for four hours. Poured into bottle again and enjoyed it next night. What a distinguished bouquet and an elegant balance! The quintessence of Pomerol.

Finally opened the bottle after a glass of Coravin. Color was garnet turning slightly brick red on the edges. Did pick up the typical Barolo notes around 10-12 years old.

Cristom pinots have a specific use case for me that came to me last summer in terms of food pairing. They are an ideal match (apologies for rather broad generalization ) for Mediterranean and Middle eastern meat based entrees. Their exotic spice DNA just plays so well off grilled lamb and other fair and was on point last night with ras-el-hanout spiced ground lamb and fresh herb and carrot salad. Oh the wine, yes, while young of coarse, there is some serious structure going on and I mean that in the best possible way. Dark cloves and cinnamon bounce of the wines core of dark currant fruit with impressive balance and precision. I easily see this going 20+ years as the track record is absolutely there.

2 hour decant in glass. Deep, inky purple with dark pink edge in color. Nose of blackberries, vanilla, saddle leather and luxardo cherries. On the palate: blackberries, subtle baking spices, luxardo cherries, espresso and dark earth. Grainy tannins are perceived on cheeks and gums. Long, dry finish of blackberries, amaro bitters and earth.

Definitely waited too long. All the flavor but none of the freshness

The test for a wine is to shine at the end of a long wine flight and this VdC did just that and for so many round the table was WOTN. We always say the same thing post trying this wine , “ why don’t we have it more often “ and this goes along way to show the beauty of it. Bright, full of energy, well balanced richness, orange marmalade and with a leaner profile vs other vintages. Such a masterful wine. Easy 93-94

All the pleasant notes of warmer climate, none of the grass clippings or cat pee. Excellent with asparagus. Well worth the extra 5 bucks compared to competitors

This drank really well to me. 80% malbec and 20% CS (I think). Juicy purple fruit and florals. Lovely freshness and lift from the Malbec component. Oak is a subtle supporting player here. Thought this could go another 10 years without issue.

Another point of evidence for the aging capability of Argentine wines!!

Extraordinary.
For the nose alone, this would rate ***, but it delivered in all respects everything anyone could ask from a bottle of wine. The kaleidoscopic elemental flavors, as of earth, wind, and fire; the layers revealing themselves - the fruit still vibrant, the tannins so well integrated, the acidity crisp and finely tuned - and as the evening progressed, so did the flavors, intensifying yet always restrained - truly an iron fist in a silk glove. And, at the last drop, bittersweet... the last of my bottles, but a most memorable sequence of experiences.

Rated HC (on a scale of -1 to +3), beyond category (hors catégorie).

Dare we say this is young.. and frankly with highlight we should have decanted it for a good hour as the wine took its time to shine. It definitely developed and opened up and albeit was out gunned by the beautiful nose of the 1978 GPL ( Papies 94-94) still was ever the beautiful and classic wine. 1986 but recently recorded at the chateau too so ever the healthy bottles ( two on the day) and showed that intensity that good 1986s have. Long live the beautiful 1980s and this one specific has an easily a good decade of love to give. Very solid 93

Nice wine for a garden barbecue. Good fruit and oak, moderate tannins and acidity. About six years old it likely won't improve further, but shows no signs it won't stay good for some years on.

Deep, dark, and toasty vanilla. Candied plum, blackberry, black cherry, warm spice notes. Wow, the palate is giving up way more than the nose, bursting at the seems with raspberry ganache, and warm spices, the tannins in this wine are big, and absolutely seemless, the texture is silky, and the finish is forever. This wine is going to age beautifully, cannot wait for 5 years down the road to open another bottle of this. Lives up to the hype.

This was awesome. Red cherry, hint of cassis, classic Oakville earth. Screams Oakville but in a restrained and elegant frame. Listed as 13.1 ABV.

Maybe not a world beater but after a night of drinking 15%+ valley floor wines, this is an awesome change of pace.

Black cherry, blackberry, licorice, tobacco, scrub herb. This wine is great! And for the price a complete steal. The only knock I could possibly have on this wine, is it is very similar in style to their Chianti Classico Riserva, and all of their Farnito wines, which are also great! I would love to work a harvest here, to see exactly how they come up with this distinctive style, reading through the technical notes doesn’t shed any light on this (other than the fermentation is a little warmer than usual, which leads to the darker colour). I can remember doing Italian tastings where there were hundreds of Italian wines, and I can always remember the Carpineto lineup standing out, as they were so different than everything else. I’m not usually in for the more modern style Chianti’s, but I am totally here for this one! This is very much in between a 94 and 95, we’re splitting hairs here.

A very healthy and magnificent bottle. Granted at this age the bottle variation is to be expected but here we struck gold with not one but two bottles perfectly healthy and just magical. For lovers of oldschool classic well aged claret this is it. The nose ever so magical , tobacco, earthy, leather and with soft tertiary fruit all coming together in a magical result. We did not know 1978 Pauillacs could deliver still ( or ever) this level of beauty but this was just magical. The palate needs its time to ope and for sure not at the same level as the nose but still what a magical experience. 94-95

Extremely high quality. Great density and ripeness to the fruit but doesn't come off heavy. With a steak it was phenomenal. Very aromatic nose as well. Think black currants and blackberries with some earthy graphite.

Really enjoyed this!

Pale ruby colour. Medium and developing nose with violet, ripe strawberry, ripe pomegranate, vanilla, crushed stone, ripe red cherry and flint. Medium taste of ripe strawberry, ripe pomegranate, vanilla and ripe red cherry. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium tannins. Full body. A very good Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir on the reductive side. Drink now or over the next ten years. Goes well with duck, pork or poultry.

A well restrained for a Cali Pinot and had such a cool climate feel across. New world for sure, soft spice and with a juicy fruit and albeit they tried to keep this on the softer side they have not overdone the lightness ( Some Arnot-Robert’s we tried recently were fruit juicy) and the wine holds the line and is so much in presence. Granted it is a new world Pinot but ever so good. Split the Papies in a way with Nicol a 90-91 and Andreas 93-94 so we call it a 92. A good decade left in this too.

Beautifully bright and pure, cherry, anise, perfumey and floral. The finish is enveloping, extremely long, not mouthcoating at all, very fine and linear. This wine reminds me more of an elegant Barolo than a Chianti. This wine is extremely elegant. Could be a point higher on this due to having spent a day at the winery, and got the full experience. But still in the top handful of chiantis I have ever had. That being said, just short of the 2016.

Clearly a bigger and riper style of wine. We had it open and in a decanter for several hours and it just never budged. Ripe dark and blue fruit with some oak hiding behind a wall of tannins that wasn't rough or obstructive, but just never really gave way and opened.

Would hold for another 5 years.

Blind Pinot Noir Tasting and Lunch (San Francisco): Deep yellow. Clean orchard fruit nose with a touch of honeysuckle. Medium weight but not particularly dense or sweet for a 1ère Trie wine. No botrytis and none of the oxidation that has plagued many 2002 Huet wines. Excellent, relaxed, and long pear flavors.

I've had this merlot back when the fruit went to Coho and really liked it then.

This was quite nice, was very excited to see Enfield's take on this vineyard. Still drinking pretty young (well, I guess it is a 2018). Red plums, some hints of dusty earth, slightest kiss of oak.

I'd hold for a bit longer.

Ripe Blackberry, plum and cassis, violets and chocolate, beautiful and powerful. Fresh mint notes lifts the nose, tobacco & spice. Tannins are good, just a little lighter than it’s number one, also without the piercing nose and long finish. Still a very tasty wine that you can enjoy earlier than Cantenac Brown’s first wine.

A pure and well restrained Cali a Chardonnay, so much a cool climate wine and so well made with a light hand and not pushed into anything it should not be. This is not for those who love some wine in their oak, this is firm and with a pure side to the fruit. Very solid 92 and with good life ahead.

Just so good. Very early in development and showing a touch of extra depth and complexity. Lively acidity and firm structure, some very slightly honeyed apricot notes, very aromatic with petrol and lemons.

To me, Willi Schaefer is among the top Rieslings coming out of Germany. Just so good.

Bright cherrry fruit, the nose on this excites me, as it’s all the right things I look for in the nose of a fantastic wine, things like bright, energetic, linear. The bright dark cherry, also there is some plum, blackberry and earth, red licorice, leather, and cigar box. The palate completely envelopes and takes over the mouth, big tannins, especially for a wine that is already 8 years old, this has some serious aging ability to it. This has the energy that I wish Napa Cabs had, or could absolutely use.
