Sammamish Port Club - Holiday Tasting (Sammamish, Washington): Very dark, red-purple in color. Cake batter on the nose with some tart and sour red fruit underneath. The buttery nose eventually evolved in the glass into slightly more red fruit notes. Noticeable but not overwhelming tannins riding a knife's edge of balance that are beautiful and carry from the entry to the end of the very long finish. Red fruits, cranberry, boysenberry, and light notes of dried herbs on the palate. Cranberry and good acidity on the long finish.

Opened and decanted for 30 minutes. I always think that the sign of an excellent port is how quickly 6 guests can consume a whole bottle at the end of dinner. Tonight was no exception, this was very well received by all.
Still perfectly fresh. Ripe fruit, plenty of sweetness as expected. Smooth, long. Delicious.

Deep dark center, red rim with some pink, no real signs of age. Blackberries and blackcurrants, quite ripe. Sweet black fruit, ripe black plums, licorice, very good acidity and tannin, alcohol is present but not obtrusive, milk chocolate and ripe cherries on the long finish. Excellent vintage port that is still fairly young. Drinking well with some air, but really needs 5+ more years. Gould Campbell vintage ports were always underrated, a real shame they're not being made any longer.

Not terribly refined or complex. This is straightforward and for the most, one dimensional. The tannins are receding and thus the balance is tending towards softer fruit, leaving the alcohol a touch out of balance. I would say drink up because I don't see the structure or balance getting any better.

Fig and plum cooked with sweet holiday spices, a little pipe tobacco and dry gravel road. Big and rich but nice lively acid, soft powdery tannin. Nice balance of acid/alcohol/sweetness.
Maybe leans a little to much toward primary fruit for some but drinking very nicely right now.

Fresh nose of raspberry, cherry, and candied tangerine peel. Focused palate of candied cherry and raspberry fruit with honeycomb and gingerbread. Firm finish of broad tannins, caramel, dolce de leche, and dark red fruits. Very bright. The best Gould Campbell we've ever had!

This was raisiny and a little lean upon decant and initial consumption. We kept half of it in the decanter and polished it off 48 hours later and WOW, what a difference. It was still raisiny but big, lush, and much more complex with a medium finish. If drinking now-ish, I strongly suggest a long decant. 90 points initially, 92 points after 48 hours => average 91.

[From a 375 ml] Deep dark reddish-purple in color; no signs of aging. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & dried figs with spice & earthy overtones, minerals, dark cocoa, cinnamon spice, herbs & a touch of vanilla in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, with rich & jammy, ripe fruit flavors of blackberries, dark cherries, dried figs & raisins with spices, bittersweet cocoa & minerals. Long lingering smooth finish with just a hint of heat. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & airing but will continue development with additional aging.

Consistent with previous bottle. Jammy, spicy and sweet with dark fruit and spiced cake flavors. Balanced on the palate with a moderate finish and the alcohol has integrated. Simple but tasty and a value vintage port for drinking with cigars.

Delicious, lighter weight port. Color is ruby with no purple. Vanilla, spice and dark fruit on the nose. Medium sweet with nice persistence on the back end. "Pretty port" that is quite lovely - not at all heavy. Not for a cold winter night but just perfect for late fall. At the beginning of its plateau. (91)

Wines over Labor day Weekend; 9/5/2015-9/8/2015: Pop and pour, this could use some air. Still, from a 375 on a hot summer evening, while watching fireworks, this was really nice. The nose is raspberries with a bit of raisin and slight chocolate. The palate is slightly sweet, ho heat and in balance. Nice finish. Perfect for the occasion.

Tn: Hayfork, Sineann, Carlisle, Gould Campbell (My home): Pop and poured, this needs some decanting at this point. A bit tight, it opened with air. Nice raspberries and milk chocolate on the nose. Sweet raspberries on the palate. Smooth with no heat. Nice if not amazing.

About the same as my last note. Deep blackberry color. Raisins, balsamic vinegar, and a bit of old wood and spice on the nose. Then again mostly raisins on the palate, but also a nice savory, dusty character. Some heat, though.
This is a pretty simple, uninspiring vintage port. Nothing wrong with it, but nothing special either.

Color: Still quite youthful and red, with just a hint of orange at the rim.
Nose: Pretty closed. A little bit of cinnamon spiciness and cigar box, as well as a hint of chocolate covered cherries. Just not much going on.
Mouthfeel: Full bodied and very smooth.
Palate: Pretty basic port flavor profile of raisins, chocolate, and spice. Good balance without undue heat or anything sticking out. Decent finish of dark chocolate. But there just isn't much complexity or intensity of flavor.
I know this is very young, but I'm not sure it will ever be much more than decent, basic vintage port.

Cork broke upon opening. Decanted for sediment. Dark purple color. Nose of blackberry, graham cracker, creme de cassis. Some heat coming through on the nose too. Dark berry jam on the palate with some oak and chocolate notes on the back end. A bit simple at this point though. Plenty of structure in this port so there is a lot of life left. Will save my remaining bottle for a while. Edit: I saved the remaining port and finished it the next night and it was dramatically smoother and sweeter with the heat having mostly integrated.

Charity Dinner (Rhys, Corra, Clerc Milon +++): decanted for a couple of hours, it could have used a bit more. The nose shows black raspberries, milk chocolate and some kirsch. Full bodied. Slightly sweet (I expected a bit more). Nice balance although a bit rough/heat on the finish. very young still and a nice end to the meal.

Decanted 6 hours. Solid Port. Still young and may develop some complexity. The nose has dark chocolate, raisins, some apple pie notes as well. On the palate, this is not huge but has bright fruit. Cherries and raspberries. Smooth with a little bit of heat. Nice finish.

Had quite a bit of trouble removing the cork as it broke in half and the bottom portion seemed glued to the neck. Eventually I just pushed the bottom part in and ran the wine through cheesecloth. A lovely underrated vintage port. Not a blockbuster, but lush and rich with moderate complexity. No decanting, but this was still quite drinkable, if a bit alcoholic. From previous experience, this will show better on the next day. UPDATE: As expected this smoothed out considerably on day 2, with the alcohol much less noticable.

A surprising amount of sediment for the age (although I forget that 2000 was 12 years ago). Purple in color. The nose has raisins, dark chocolate and framboise. Viscous. Sweet. This is really good but not mind blowing. That's ok. I drank it over a week from a 375 and it held up the whole time suggesting this wine has more to develop. It was best after 4 days open I think. Very nice raspberry fruit with some heat. A tinge of milk chocolate covered raisins on the palate. For $17 a 375, this was a great deal.

What a delicious port! At Ommer & Val's party. I only had a sip -- but what a lovely drink it was. Chocolate, berry, a touch of plum, spice. Some tannins evident. Quite concentrated. Really needs more years to age -- but very tasty, now. A bit hit with: Jen, May, Diane, Ann L, etc.

Popped and poured. Lighter in body than your typical Vintage Port, but certainly enjoyable and surprisingly accessible, with the tannins evident yet smooth and refined. Plummy and chocolatey with hints of licorice. Medium length with a lifted, clean finish. Very nice for the discounted price of $30. Tasted over three days with this showing its best on day 3, where it was quite plush.

No nose. Relatively lightweight palate (for a port) with black fruits and black cherry and a boozy character. Smooth tannins and mild complexity on a medium finish. Not a lot of depth. Maybe it needs a bit more time, but I don't see this as a 92 pointer like the pros do.
