Pristine bottle. The wine showed very well against a highly diverse group of younger wines. For me, this is à point and unlike some reviews, I don't see it falling off for a long time. 1999 maybe not a top vintage, but I've had these back to 40 years old and they just seem to get better.

Rich but lively colour, correct for age; initially the nose has an oxidative note, but this clears with some oxygen, salty oak, flowers, gently candied fruit, lemon, flowers; the energetic palate is rich and slightly austere at the same time; the oak sticks out a bit on the finish, but there is also good fruit with a tropical edge.

This is still drinking surprisingly young and requires half an hour to show its tropical pineapple, lime blossom, lanolin, mineral nose at its best. More expressive yet on the palate, which is quite unctuous but surely with enough acidic zip to keep it fresh and engaging. Drinking now but I'd actually be curious to see where this will go with another few years.

Wines at Sasi's (East Ledang, Johore): I have always been partial to DDC whites. This was a tad advanced, but very nice nonetheless. The nose had the typical melange of seashell mineral, almond skin, chalk and white fruit, with just a shaving of lemon zest. Nice. The palate was at a nice place. Juicy lemony acidity, slakey minerality, chalky depth, a bite of white fruit, a twist of citrus, leading into a nice, saline finish, all this put together in a pretty well integrated whole. Maybe just a hint of fatness on it, but otherwise very pleasurable.

1999 Bordeaux @ Piccolino (Piccolino, Liverpool Street Stn, London): 2 halves, consistent notes. Well, who’d have thought it, an advanced/poxed DDC Blanc. Ho hum. Deep gold. Quite rich, waxy lanolin nose with a slightly bruised apple note. Quite broad on the attack. Evolved. Broadness leads through to a short finish. Falls apart in glass. ***87 to ** 82 with air. I’ll split the difference.

Rich but lively colour, correct for age, fullish yellow, with a golden sheen; completely fresh on the harmonious nose, intense and layered, lemon and cream, hints of flowers (lily, orange blossom) and vegetables, an initial note of oaky salinity integrates completely after a few hours in the decanter, whiff of white almond, deep; the palate is silky and harmonious, intense but elegant, medium body (13% ABV), retains a good stuffing of fruit; the complete finish starts out ever so slightly oaky, but then fans out beautifully, and length is very good. When I last tasted this 7 years ago at 10 years of age, it was uncommunicative and hiding its potential. Since then, it has developed beautifully, found its voice as an understated Domaine de Chevalier of great finesse, and is now well on its plateau of maturity. Completely intact on the second day, so it should still have a good future - until 2024 or thereabouts?

Medium golden yellow. A very concentrated and powerful white Bordeaux. You can find plenty of everything here, sweet white and exotic fruits, pain grille, nuts and almonds. The slightly oily texture is balanced by high acidity, providing the wine with nice freshness despite the age. No signs of oxidization whatsoever. Good length. What worries me and why I don't score this higher is the amount of oak at age 17. Have little experience with white Bordeaux beyond age 20, but wonder if further aging will integrate the remaining oak much more

Too much oxidation in here. Even for me... Marzipan, coppernotes, rusty notes, floral and saline like manzanilla, marmelade, old barrels. Actually, it's undrinkable...

Reinterpreted Paris Tasting 'Best Bottle Circle' Style (Emmen, Switzerland): Golden in color. Nose is quite 'perfumed'. Honey and gooseberries. I was surprised how buttery and fat this wine was. Did not really fit my expectations of a Bordeaux white. Overall still a nice wine which is now fully mature.

Drank over several hours without decant. Straw yellow. Unlike the bottle 18 months ago, there is no oxidation this time whatsoever. While this is not as flashy as some of the white Burgundies I have had recently, this has a fine texture and a great balance of fruit and acidity. One of the rare whites, where despite a fair bit of sweet, almost exotic fruit, the wine does not taste flabby or flat due to its great acidity. Very good length too. Excellent. 92-93

1999 Bordeaux at RSJ (RSJ Restaurant, Southwark): Medium straw. Lovely, aromatic nose. Still quite youthful, stone fruit, cream, orange blossom, lifted by vibrant acidity on the palate, really quite long. ****1/2

this wine was showing age, it had decent acidity and wasn't flabby or sherried but the palate showed plenty of smoke and caramel (which isn't my or my wife's thing)… for my tastes this might have been an 88 but i gave the higher points cuz some like age and this wine had enough acid and tension and minerals to warrant enjoyment for those who like age on their whites

Opened about 3h before dinner (did not dare to decant as some notes below were suggesting) and took a sip every once in a while. Straw yellow. Slight oxidized note during the first 90 min or so after opening, later the note largely disappears behind the beautiful fruit. Takes a good 2-3h in the open bottle to show its best. A very finely textured palate with pineapple, abricott, some sulphur, initially also nuts, later more dominated by sweet, but well delineated fruit notes. Good acidity and moderate alc (13%) keeps it fresh. Long finish. Excellent.

DRC Tasting Group: Bordeaux Night (Wild Ginger, Seattle, WA): Graham cracker, creme brulee, and pina colada on the nose. Similar fruit on the body, with a touch more tropical fruit, and a bit of lemon curd from the acid. Long, persistent finish with great acidity.

Opened just a few minutes before drinking - a couple hours would have been better. Bright, dark gold color. Meyer lemon and herbs on the nose. Same on the palate, along with minerals and bracing acidity. Very viscous, almost oily texture, and a long, rich finish. Not a delicate shrinking violet by any means. A white wine for red wine drinkers.

Not as good as some other bottles of this i've had before. Fairly typical notes of citrus, grapefruit and pineapple. Seemed a bit hollow in the middle. Probably a wrong bottle...

this wine continues to deliver. Aging very well. Decant long (2-3 hours) to get the best from it. Pineapple, spices and sometimes a hint of coconut. Full body with great mouth feel. Great to drink after a red as it has plenty of body to hold up.

A private dinner (@ Home): Paired with the 1998. A somewhat puzzling wine, there is some nuttiness that seems to indicate maturity but the wine is very fresh and perfectly stable the next day, light and delicate but with many subtle dimensions and excellent length. Probably needs (many) more years in the cellar.

Bought and served in Bordeaux. Decanted for 20 minutes. Beautiful shade of gold, almost as a Sauternes. Mouth feel and balance are the two things you remember and want to see in other white wines. It is full bodied, big, and has an acidic-sweet profile that makes everyone slow down and stay a while. Great first wine of the evening but also big enough to be the last. 10 years of age is a great time to try it.

Lovely golden color. Not a really big or complex wine but showing decent balance between sweetness, acidity and minerality framed by a glycerin mouthfeel. This bottle could have been slightly oxidized but if this was a representative bottle I suggest drinking up.

A White Wine Tour de France (San Francisco): Light yellow with a glint of green-identical to the Dauvissat Chablis drunk simultaneously. With a few hours in the decanter, this showed vanilla, wood, and some tropical notes of coconut and pineapple. Full bodied but saved by good acidity and minerality. Very much dominated by its Semillon component right now. Very good but not great. As we drank this, I thought that this is to Sauternes as Savennieres is to sweet Vouvray--both of these dry versions capture the soil qualities that are downplayed when botrytis comes into the mix.

Still a baby with a long way to go. Thoroughly enjoyable food wine. Pale yellow, some minerals and citrus on the nose. Decanted and served over two hours with a fine tasting menu. Very balanced and harmonious. Not a huge wine, but more than enough fruit which evolved over the evening from minerals to slightly citric back to minerals. All in balance. Nice finish. A liitle more fruit and a little more nose would have merited an even higher score. Maybe with time?
