Bright gold in colour. Classic nose of lemon/lime/lanolin. Covered through on the palate. Some bitterness and taut lines on the finish blossoms into a honeyed glory. As fresh tasting as any bottle I've had. Plenty of life left in this

?Bottle variance (screw top). A touch of oxidisation took away from the pleasure that this wine has given over the years. At £11 one of the best bargains of of the millennium! Assuming a sound bottle, should be giving 90pt+ enjoyment into the middle of the decade. Sadly this was my last.

A couple of year since I have had this and it is utterly delightful. Colour is a deep gold yet bright - no browning. Nose is bright lemon and lime, some grapefruit within a denser blanket of honey, toast, touch of lanolin, some olive almost - damp cellar and a mineral vein through it all. Palate is full and rich reflecting those citrus flavours, lanolin, toast, and the finish is very long - with a fine thread of honey piercing through the initial flush, and continuing on and on. Beautiful wine, and by far best value wine I have ever purchased. Hmm - after writing this note, I have had to add a point :) This bottle is in better condition than my last, so there is some variability - to be expected at this age - but plenty of life left here.

After 16 years it is now fully mature. Dark yellow, smelling of honey, rich mouth feel and intense flavour though no actual sweetness. A fine wine by any standards, showing how well this unique style can evolve. Hard to imagine that Lovedale can be even better, but I’ll look forward to trying it.

Continues to impress and sadly this was my last bottle. Full on aromas of raw honey, beeswax, lanolin, nuts. Fairly full body with plenty of flavor. Has a lovely balance. Still can't believe this was just 10 british pounds when I bought it from Majestic back in 2011.

Wow what a nose! Rich, oily, honey notes leap out of the glass Palate follows suit with a touch of lime fruit in there keeping it fresh and lean. Really flavoursome in the mouth but finish maybe a little too short Great value when it used to be available at UK Supermarkets. Sadly not seen commercially for some time. Down to my last bottle now

The last of three bottles of this and it was the best of them yet - think this is just beginning to hit the early part of its window.
Nose is now very honeyed, with lemons and limes in the background. Long length. hard to believe this is the entry level wine. Still crazy zippy acidity and unbelievable freshness for a white of this age. Genuinely insane value!

Very good condition. Tasted with Lovedale of the same year, which was marginally richer but surprisingly little difference. Both were excellent examples of the style, though perhaps not as unctuous as Tyrrels Vat 1.

Golden on opening, lightened with air. Lovely citrus, lemon & lime, toast, bit of candle wax. Great acidity, good length. Lovely wine and outstanding QPR.
Excellent and still very youthful. Racy albeit with a touch of viscosity. Melon, pineapple and lime zest with a core of steely minerality. Smokey nuances. Dry, full flavoured and long in a medium-bodied frame. Had a drink-by-date on this of 2020 - won't now drink my next till then with a new dbd of at least twenty years from vintage. 91+

"Hold on!" I hear you say. "This score is a bit punchy!" This is actually the highest score (by a point) that I've ever given on CT. It's been a while since I've had a bottle and this is really singing now. Better served only slightly chilled just around or below cellar temp. When too cold it feels a bit sharp, astringent and one dimensional. At the right temp this is lovely: straw like colour, it's waxy, toasty and smokey with fresh citrus fruit flavours and a light note sherbet (though no effervescence this time but instead a lovely oily mouth feel which is perfectly balanced by fresh acidity) and with good length. I'm loving it's evolution with this amount of bottle age and as others suspect in their notes, it'll continue to go on for some time too. I'm kicking myself again for not clearing the Tesco shelves when I gave others the heads up 2 years ago. At £6 this was an absolute steal! (So I have given an extra point for QPR). You can't get current vintages for less than double that now but even then it'll prove to be good value in years to come.

Golden in color, marred only by some overt sulfur in the nose, this wine had racy acidity, tart lime fruit, a distinctly stony minerality and an indescribable herbal quality to it. A very good foil for "Chilean Sea Bass," it went down all too easily.

Deep Golden straw in colour. 8 bottles consumed at beloved stepmother's wake at home with the extended families. Universally liked by all: melon, herb and citrus, dry, intense minerality and immense length. Medium bodied frame. Have purchased another dozen since my last note at the ludicrously cheap price of <£8.99 per bottle. As per my 2014 note with enhanced minerality and zesty fresh acidity. Decanted for 90 minutes. Green tinged youthful colour - no hint of gilding with age. Excellent clean citrus oil character nose, fullish bodied on the palate with hints of exotic fruit - pineapple, rose petals and good zesty acid spine. Dry. As fresh as though bottled last week. Accompanied our sea bream well. Good length. Drinking beautifully now, but with this structure will evolve and still be with us at the end of the decade. ?91+ potential. Unfortunately only one more bottle left.
Colour richer and starting to turn golden. Still fresh with penetrating lemon and passion fruit acidity. Gaining complexity and a richness, but by no means fully evolved. A tasty, but also interesting wine. Good foil to fish and chips too.

Typical Huntervalley Semillion, but despite the age very little evolved. Slower than other from 2005, maybe due to higher alcohol levels. Will be interesting to see again in 5-10 years.

"The darling of Sydney" they say... because Mc Williams Semillon Elizabeth is the bottle to have with you food at a restaurant on Sydney harbour front. Unlike the french stick and the camembert you eat when in France that doesn't taste as good when you bring it home and eat it in your front room... this is different!! This is great wine and has been aged before release and has this beautiful lime and steely flavour with crisp acidity which when left to open up develops a nutty flavour and added compexity. Wonderful stuff. Find it in Tesco and try it out. It has many years ahead to develop further.

It took around 30 mins to show its real character. Lovely wine. Zesty lemon with hint of passion fruit in taste. The long it breaths, the longer is the aftertaste, with a good balance of spice. The balance is good, particularly with the acidity. I this wine has reached it prime and start to run downhill pretty soon.

Glowing greeny gold. Buttered toast plus lemon butter, for the most part. Excellent weight and balance. Last of the four bottles I had cellared. Kept 1/3 of bottle in fridge overnight, certainly better on first night, so drink up.

gold lots of limes on the nose - almost roses lime cordial initially quite a bit of spritz but that dissipated tangy, quite full-bodied lots of acidity some lovely toastiness on the finish no hurry to drink this

Recommended by an Aussie wine expert as a high quality-price ratio wine. With 8 years of aging in bottle, all elements were integrated so well. The nose was smoky and nutty with interesting hint of popcorn. Quite toasty for the first few sips. Strong lemon acidity. Some savoury minerals. Oily/ waxy texture. Very powerful fruitiness. Complex and well balance. The finish was dry with well layered acidity. Very beautiful. The only weakness was that the body was not quite full, a bit watery. Can still age for a few years.

Straw-coloured and showing less age than might be expected (except for this being hunter Semillon under screwcap!)
Lemon in the lead on the nose, but with background oatmeal/butter/orange rind.
Bright (but not aggressive) acidity to the fore on the palate, with lemon and a hint of lemon washing up liquid. A little textural silkiness/waxiness and a very long finish.
Enjoyable now, but I'd expect even more to come over the next 5-10 years.

Golden straw colour. Beautiful rich nose of lime, dried grass, some lemon, and some richer lactic hints. With air, takes on stronger toasted aspects and lanolin. The palate is full, and is bursting with flavours of limes, coconut, honey, straw and a lovely long finish with mineral nuances and agave. Nicely balanced, and should have plenty of time in font of it.

Bright gold. Nice aromatics of fresh straw, lemon, cut-grass and a tropical note of passionfruit. Sherbet note. Quite rich and full-bodied, light spritz, lots of lemon-sherbet fruit on the palate. Drinking well. Typical varietal characters. Good acidity. Improved as time went by and it warmed. Honey and lemon on the nose; lime dominant palate that is distinctly tasty - not an austere Semillon. Mouthfeel and length are good. Recommended.

Served blind. Picked as a Hunter Semillon. Greener than the Brokenwood ILR it has a apple juice filled nose. Good development on the palate, fresh green lime on the entry which becomes fuller and toastier on the long finish. Very nice.

For the price, this was great value. Straw with a slight green hue, this semillon had lemon meringue, lime and green apple notes. It was well-balanced with a touch of oak and creamy toast and butter, good citrus acid and a dry vanilla finish. I found it interesting as it seems to be showing both older and younger semillon characteristics at the moment, as if it was just starting to mellow.

A glorious Hunter semillon. Notes of oily rag, wet wool, lanolin, toasted hazelnuts, limes, beeswax. So much complexity before you even take a sip. Nicely weighted palate. Good depth of fruit. Creamy, buttery, nutty richness. Taut acidic pithy fruit. Very long. Easily worth £10 on a multi buy offer.

Relatively forward - at 12% alcohol the fruit was probably harvested a bit riper. Lanolin, toast and vanilla next to citrussy freshness. Tight and energetic core wrapped in some juicy flesh, minerally length, firm acidity, complete finish. Very enjoyable already, very characteristic and will be very interesting to follow over the next ten years.

I'm not generally a huge fan of semillon, but this wine may change all that. Intense aromas: waxy, oily, minerality, plus plenty of lime and lemon fruit. Some honey and florality in the background. Palate is ripe, oily, full and initially quite sweet. But there's an intense sharp bitterness through the length, the semillon characteristic I'm not so keen on. This is undeniably an exceptionally well made wine, and will improve further with some additional bottle age. Worth the £10 offer price at Majestic.

Three days in the Hunter Valley, 13 Cellar Doors, 115 wines; 2/24/2011-2/26/2011 (Hunter Valley, Australia): Intense nose, a little funky and tart. The palate is like melting plastic poured over some sweet honeydew melon with funky acids; really quite nice and interesting. Good acid and quite intense through the finish. Deep and long acids. We bought two bottles and enjoyed one even more later in our trip, and the other came back to the US with us. Hope to let this sit for another 5 years.

Hunter Valley - 7 Cellar Doors (Pokolbin): {screwcap, A$18} Mid yellow. Some development apparent on the nose, with toasty and honeyed aromas dominating. It’s equally developed on the palate, sits towards the front of the tongue, and is in Elizabeth’s usual dry, light-medium bodied style. Medium length, with decent acid (more than the 06 for instance). Not a hugely memorable vintage, however.

colour now deep gold/ green
really toasty nose, limes
rich, savoury, lots of toasty development
Almost a little too much initially
More limes
Falls away quite quickly but then comes back with a lovely lingering creaminess. Really long finish
It's amazing that you can buy this wine for £9 today, or even under £7 on offer.
Such an interesting wine for the money

Wonderful. Like lime marmalade on buttered toast. Wish we had more.

Typical Huntervalley Semillion, but despite the age very little evolved. Slower than other from 2005, maybe due to higher alcohol levels. Will be interesting to see again in 5-10 years.

Just lovely drinking, aged Semillon characters to the fore. Sensational value. Acid structure is great. Under screw cap (hooray to that!) MANY more years left.

Kept 1/3 of bottle in fridge overnight, certainly better on first night, so drink up.

gold
lots of limes on the nose - almost roses lime cordial
initially quite a bit of spritz but that dissipated
tangy, quite full-bodied
lots of acidity
some lovely toastiness on the finish
no hurry to drink this
Even better the next day, really toasty. My advice would be to decant and not serve too cold

Typical varietal flavours for an aged Hunter Semillon: lemon, honeysuckle, toasty. Fresh and tasty. Impeccable structure.

Mmm, this is getting better and better (about my third or fourth bottle now). Starting to round out and develop the rich nuttiness and complexity of a few years aging. Still got lots of fresh bracing acidity too. Very nice indeed!

Bright gold. Nice aromatics of fresh straw, lemon, cut-grass and a tropical note of passionfruit. Sherbet note. Quite rich and full-bodied, light spritz, lots of lemon-sherbet fruit on the palate. Dry, complex, relatively full-bodied and drinking superbly considering the price. A stunner for less than £10

Greeny gold colour. Toasty, honeyed, lemony, nutty, textured goodness. Far better than the bottle I had in June, no sweaty socks this time. Bottle variation is still possible under screwcap.

Drinking well. Typical varietal characters. Good acidity. Improved as time went by and it warmed. Honey and lemon on the nose; lime dominant palate that is distinctly tasty - not an austere Semillon. Mouthfeel and length are good. Recommended.

String citrus note follows on from initial waxy flavour
A little to zippy for my taste but undoubted a good wine
Will see whether it settles a little more in time
Great value if you can score it with 25% off periodically

Buttercup colour, petillant; classic smoky Hunter Valley Semillon bouquet, grassy zip; crisp, smart, taut, but well balanced; still needs time.

Starting to develop the tertiary notes of smoke, almond and toast, but retaining a lively streak of citrus acidity. Just getting interesting - certainly has a few years ahead of it

No sweaty socks here, but this was nevertheless an uninspiring wine for me. Some nice typical waxiness, some underlying citrus fruits, but overall quite bland and short.

Bone dry. Lemon, sweaty socks, toast, some honey, butter. Nice mouth weight, and impressive finish. Lots of good things as expected from a 7 year old Hunter sem, however the sweaty socks killed it for me. Not sure if bottle was quite right.

Yellow gold. Honeyed, waxy, wet wool, nutty. A tad vegetal. Agree with a previous note- def lemon meringue on the nose here. Full rich citrus palate. Bone dry, so very mouth puckering. Classic Hunter semillon. Could turn me.

Served blind. Picked as a Hunter Semillon. Greener than the Brokenwood ILR it has a apple juice filled nose. Good development on the palate, fresh green lime on the entry which becomes fuller and toastier on the long finish. Very
nice.

Straw, slight green tinge. Developed nose, typical hunter. Big up front flavour, overly developed, touch of lemon, but with honey and toast. All the flavour is on the front palate. No finish at all - slightly flawed bottle.
