This was a revelation, so light and ethereal. It’s evolved since my first bottle 2 years ago. This is so incredibly ready, fresh and drinking superbly.

From MAG, decanted 1h. Medium ruby. Tertiary, earthy nose with mushrooms, dark cherries, spices. On the body, the tannins here are not very polished. They do a much better job in recent vintages with this. So if you own this 2009 make sure you wait a little longer before drinking and give it a good decant.

Dinner at Bar-a-Thym (Bar-a-Thym): This was drinking really nicely for a young NSG. It had a really nice nose, with bits of toast and spice floating around a core of black cherries and dark berries, and just that touch of earth and truffles, these lined with just the slightest hint of NSG mineral. The palate was surprisingly soft, with just a shadow of fine, firm tannins and a decent amount of acidity for a 2009, these framing a yummy mouthful of black cherries laced with those spice and mineral notes picked up on the nose. Nice finish too, with just a hint of tannins pulling the wine into a nice lingering tail. Good stuff, drinking well now.

Dinner at Teochew Paradise. Mid ruby, deep colour for an 11-year old NSG. Complex, expressive aromas. Soft and silky. Dense ripe dark fruits. Some notes of mushrooms, truffles. Quite robust and yet is graceful and elegant.

Red cherry, herbaceous, flint and spice nose. Rough tannin high acidity which are not integrated well. Relatively short finish and a bit hollow in the mid palate. May need another 5+ years for the wine to balance.

From a 6L methuselah, #19 of 20 made! Opened and left to slow ox for 12 hours before serving from decanter with remainder served at lunch the following day. Youthful, dark colour. Deep, dark, rich nose and palate. Clearly, very young but by no means unpleasant even in this format! Unsurprisingly. quite a bit more relaxed on day 2 though.

Great bouquet, red and blue fruits, spices. Pop’n’pour in a restaurant, at room temperature. Very pleasant, very 2009 initially, pushed to the limit but right before the limit to be excellent with blood orange, sweetness, roundness, balance. Like Barolos served this way around that age, the tannins started to show some bite after a while, but in a finer way, before they then moved to develop a satin-like sweetness, bringing the wine to another (higher) level.

92 on Day 1. Dark red fruit and oak.. like oaky black roses... a lot of spice. A bit heavy/clunky on the palette that the spice couldn't save it from. Structured on the finish, a bit warm. Nice acidity and remaining structure to let this age out. Approachable now, but not particularly exciting.
*** On Day 2 the wine was more balanced with less oak/dull fruit and more structure / spice on the finish. Minor heat still there. I am not sure how it will evolve, but moved up to a 92-93 ***

A very enjoyable, true to terroir, NSG that can be drunk now. While I prefer his NSG at 20 years or so, and this will delvelop more complexity in time, all of the elements are now in synch. Starts light—especially for a 2009- with a paler dark red and some initially perfumed scents of soft red berries on the nose.WIth time, the darker red/dark oak color emerges and the corps gets weightier. The sauvages tones emerge as well, with briary tones piggybacking the darker cherry, plum, and raspy blackberry flavors. Not decanted.

love this wine. i decanted it to let it breather - beautiful expressive nose - earth, wet socks and funk with a pretty dark red fruit perfume - lithe and balanced in the mouthful - great fruit, acidity and a long finish. i really enjoyed this a lot.

this was fantastic. underrated and underpriced IMHO. popped and poured and it just sung from the first sip to the last. seductive perfume, hay strawberry, lots of red fruit. very light and lithe but very full on the palate and a long finish. for a young burg this one is just delicious now and i'd buy more to consumer short term.

This wine is a red color that is both dark and translucent at the same time. Rim is bricking but still has a touch of ruby. The nose of this wine evolved substantially over an hour and a half. Early on, the main impression was one of cola or root beer notes, which is a description that is a first for me in describing a burgundy. As time passes, the Pinot fruit emerges, as does the perfume, earthy notes, forest floor, and bottled aged notes. Cola, maybe even cherry cola, is still there, but only in the backdrop. On the palate, the fruit reminds of cherry, blackberry, and cola too; and there is still a good grip that surprises after an early sense of full maturity. This wine improves and broadens with air, but shows a tighter side as well as time goes by. I think the wine is in a good window, but it may improve over time if the fruit hangs in.

Medium ruby color. Sophisticated notes of mushrooms, earth, black cherries, some dark spices (licorice), also some dark red fruit, also sweet spices (vanilla, nutmeg) and a touch of menthol, white pepper and tobacco leaf. Beautiful aromatic complexity. It's medium+ bodied, with medium+ tannin and medium acidity. The tannin is a touch rough at this point of time. Very good length. A very interesting Clos des Forêts with still a lot of potential. It's still young but I am wondering if the tannin will fully integrate. The complexity is great. (92+)

Tight on the nose - earthy, slightly barnyardy with limited notes of dark berry fruit, smoke, forest notes. On the palatefresh, again very tight, showing good weight with a lovely mineral spine. More serious and with more depth than 2008 Clos de l'Arlot tasted alongside. Firm tannins. Very good length. Needs time. 91-92+(+)

OK to drink now, but really not close to its prime. Wait another 5 years before trying again. Had it next to a 2005 that someone else brought to the same dinner and it was easy to see that this should wait.

The first bottle was slightly corked, which wasn't really obvious on initial pour but become obvious a few minutes in. A new bottle of 2009 was pulled but it didn't receive any decant or slow Ox, so was really closed. With the little bit of cherry fruit sweetness and mouthfeel showing, I imagine this will be quite a wine in 10 years and I would check in again in 5 years.

Half bottle. Deep ruby. Exaggerated smoky, bacony nose-is this Cote Rotie?? Ripe red fruit, a bit of earth. Low acidity, very approachable now. While the high char wood relaxed a bit over time, it never relinquished its grip on the wine. You really have to love this style of vinification to like this wine. I don't.

2009 tasting from 375 w sous vide duck confit: perhaps this bottle was not representative, but there was a sourness as well as tartness on the backend that took away from any enjoyment. certainly a dense wine, but the flavors here suggest something was particularly askew. not good...
Served blind, this is obviously a young Burgundy, with primary dark fruit, tannins that are bit coarse and need to settle, and a bit of spice. At Ritter Wine in Schaan, Liechtenstein.

Much darker with notes of black cherry and liquorice. This is a brooding wine with plenty of muscle currently sheathed by baby fat. Certainly a ‘Forets’ for the ages that should be a beauty given plenty of cellar time.
