Heavy, flabby and a bit cloying. Some interesting flavors that are overpowered by the weight of the alcohol. Quite OK to drink now but I'm not really sure what I'd drink it with and it's too heavy by itself.
Fairly intense nose that suggests it's a bit past it's use by date. Black pepper, leather and cloves dominate.
Full bodied with a very viscous mouthfeel, a bit of acid and basically no tannin left. Very alcoholic. Flavor is a bit better than the nose with a dollop of very ripe black plum along with the pepper etc. Not much flavor on the finish, just a long reminder that you shouldn't be drinking after 2 glasses.

Drank this after a 2008 Moore "Earthquake" Vineyard. Cedarman was not quite as good as the Moore but was still a fine bottle of Zin. Slightly more acidic, but became jammier over time. Crazy high ABV but smooth and not hot.

sb Fairly deep ruby with a garnet rim. Tart nose, my first thought was an older Chianti. Rather tart and lean initially with quite a bit of acidity, I had a hard time placing Zinfandel at first. With an hour this sweetens up just a bit, but still quite lean, but elegant, a term I’ve never used in a Turley note.
This is quite nice, more interesting than delicious. And serves to show the aging potential of some zins... orange peel, iced tea flavors.

Opened this about two hours before dinner yesterday. Initial nose reminded me of many over extracted alcoholic wines. Waited a total of threes hours before tasting. Very impressive. The high alcohol nose had diminished substantially and the dark fruits were very engaging. I finished the remaining half of the bottle tonight and this is even better. The alcohol is unnoticeable on the nose. Taste is smooth, elegant dark fruits and some earthy elements. If I had another bottle, my preference would be to open and decant at least five hours prior to serving.

Purple in color. 16.2% ABV. Super nose of red and black fruits, licorice and pepper. Full bodied with juicy acidity and just a touch of heat on the palate. Flavors of raspberry liqueur, boysenberry, blueberry and white pepper. The finish is exceptionally long. Enjoyable Zinfandel but you have to be a fan of the Turley wines from this era. Drink over the next 2-3 years.

Calling this hot is understated. Popped and decanted for an hour. The nose shows a touch of milk chocolate and boysenberry, but the alcohol comes out of the glass like steam from water hitting hot pavement. The palate is more of the same; some milk chocolate and a skosh of sweet raspberry show, but the flavors are overrun by alcohol. Settled after an hour or so in the glass, but still unpleasant. Corked it and opened it up 24 hours later. Softer mouthfeel, but alcohol STILL dominates. A hot mess desperately needing more fruit.

Nice but not blow you away Zin. For the money and reviews I was expecting a bit more, but it delivers in jamminess and rich, ripe red and even black fruit. Good depth and texture, quite extracted. Its a big wine, lots of body but it finishes quite hot....I feel the alcohol bullies you on the finish and overtakes the fruit and even tannin. For the price you can do better than this particular vintage, however still very enjoyable. It could be the fruit is dying off a bit and leaving the finish a little hollow and hot...

I am not a fan of Turley or any amped up style, but this wine sure was delicious. Consumed over 2 nights. Some alcohol initially that calmed down after about 1/2 hour. Really big, lots of ripe red fruit. Vanilla. This was not cloying at all, although it was very big. I liked that the acid kept it in check somewhat.

Decanted for 90 min. Got better & better afterwards. Bright & fruity without any tinge of a fruit bomb, great with or without food. Deep & jammy. Might be a little hot on entry, but mellows out quickly. Red fruit, fun to drink!

Huge extracted zin that reminded me of a young vintage port. This was hard and unyielding with any attractive zin fruit buried under an avalanche of wood, tannin and alcohol. Turley 2009 Cedarman Zinfandel for the 4th of July, what could be better? Toasted blackberry jam on the nose. The first sip was a continuation of that. It quickly evolved with leather, smoke and a hint of spice. It continued to evolve in the glass while the burgers and corn on the grill finished. It finished with some licorice and pepper. This was a hit at the party we had. It's my only bottle of 2009 Cedarman, but I'm glad it's not my only Turley!

Blackberry, with green pepper/asparagus. I reviewer labeled charred wood( right on the money). Big and bold with good tannins, drinking for my b-day. What a great wine, wish I had bought more. Vanilla and caramel too. A good b-day wine.

I have always liked the Cedarman and this did not disappoint. Dark berry color with same fragrance on pouring. Big mouth feel. Tannins clearly in play, may soften a bit in a year or so, but not too drying. Alcohol obvious - perhaps a bit more than needed until it blows out of the glass. Big berry and earthy palate with the great spiciness that makes a zin a zin - for me. Medium to long finish. Glad I have 2 more to try over time.
This had a big, bold and jammy bouquet of blackberry, blueberry, charred wood, pepper, licorice and spice aromas. The palate was rich, dense, dry and a little jammy with flavors of blueberry, blackberry, plum, burnt toast, vanilla, pepper, licorice and spice. 91+

- Aromas of raspberry, black pepper and violet. It's lacking fruit and has flavours of raspberry and black pepper - Perhaps I consumed this too soon. This was not particularly enjoyable. Too much inbalance for what I was expecting (considering it was a Turley). It was ok. Only one I had.
Rich and decadent, with cherry liquor, spice and cocoa. A bit too decadent perhaps, as this started to get tiring, with its sweet, caramel, confectionary profile. This got noticeably better on day two, with the sweet/syrupy character toned down, and the fruit becoming more pure. Quite a turn around. Score based on day 2.

A bit early for this wine - maybe in 5-10 yrs would be better. Dark, Rich, inky opaque appearance. Tastes of bluebery pie, cloves, blackberry licorice. Tannis a bit high with good acidity and a bit of earth. Long finish with red licorice and fruit hanging around. Fills the whole mouth with full bodied zing, and a hint of white pepper finish. One person mentioned a linger of burnt caramel. Very nice and QPR = 5.0.

Extremely tight after opening, giving up maybe a little bit of pepper, I doubted this wine would ever come around, and that it was just too young and fresh. After approximately one hour, however, the fruit came through in spades - all kinds of brambly fruit, and while a bit on the sweeter side for me, it was well balanced with a rather rich mouthfeel, and a clean finish. A bit too high in alcohol for food, but enjoyable on its own.

Enjoyed at Fort Worth Del Frisco's. This wine was a "two in one." Without food this wine is a 120 lb, graceful ballerina, but with food it turns into a 320 lb offensive lineman. Cork popped with a dark stain. Aroma was deep, dense, intense black pepper spice and ripe fruit. The wine was poured into glasses - deep dark red and somewhat inky complexity. The nose in the glass was very characteristic of a typical zin with nice fruit nose and hints of spice. The wine drinks with a flash of fruit up front, but most of the wine is spent trying to decipher all of the blackberry and some of the jam and toasted oak characterics from the other somewhat atypical characteristics that this wine was quickly developing (like leather, smoke, tobacco, mineral, earth, sediment). The wine was quite lovely with that oak finish that kept you wanting more. With food, this wine drank more like a cab, and the typical gave way to atypical characteristics. The toasted oak and pepper spice were there all the time with a beautiful tannic balance. There was quite a bit of earth on this zin. In other words, the presence of earth at all was unexpected but perfect with the rare filet mignon. I could close my eyes and picture the earth, the vine, the grape skin, the mineral from the rocks all there in front of me. I cannot wait to visit Turley in February.

I seem to like zinfandel more and more these days. Perhaps because I typically drink it after dinner without food. Incredible depth of black fruit here. Elements of smoke and bacon fat on the nose. Good balance and nice acidity - not flabby whatsoever. I would take a $30 Zin over a $30 Cab any day and above a $60 Cab most days and I love Cabs.

Brambly black fruits offset nicely by spicy black pepper. Not even close to a fruit bomb of a zin, this had moderate sweetness and was easy to drink. Tasty and would be a great match for a grilled steak.

Had at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse in Northbrook, iL. Great wine, robust, fruit forward, Lon finish. Slightly spicy, smooth for such a young wine. A bit hot. Had with several people who aren't big red wine drinkers & they really loved it. Enjoy with confidence.

Dark ruby, nose of blackberry and subtle wood. This drinks pretty smoothly but is a little hot on the finish. Dark fruits, alcohol, and barrel staves give this the feeling you're drinking a barrel sample right now. With air takes blackberry liqueur and candied cherry personality. Full throttle and intense, but what would you expect from Turley? Stood up well to a super-spicy home-grown fire roasted tomato sauce with pasta.

more deep and brambly than typical fruit forward this zin shows character and depth. Hints of leather, bacon grease and blueberries accompany the dark cherry nose. The mouth feel is sumptuous and the finish is long and smooth. no rough edges, especially considering its youth.

This wine is absolutely stunning. Considering release price is $29, one of the best QPR zin i have ever tasted.

A step up from the 2009 Tofanelli Vineyard zin. Richer, more conentrated but still very focused.
The blueberry fruit shines through

Brambly black fruits offset nicely by spicy black pepper. Not even close to a fruit bomb of a zin, this had moderate sweetness and was easy to drink. Tasty and would be a great match for a grilled steak.

Drank with Thanksgiving dinner. Another well-crafted Turley Zin. Big and bold as you might expect, but not overblown and showing delicious brambly Zin flavors. Just a very enjoyable bottle.

Spicy and rich with blackberry, raspberry, and some mineral notes. Medium to long finish.

Blue fruits on the nose and all that good bramble spice. Very smooth, good mouth feel. Actually elegant for a young wine. Very drinkable and very enjoyable. Really opens up after about an hour decant.

more deep and brambly than typical fruit forward this zin shows character and depth. Hints of leather, bacon grease and blueberries accompany the dark cherry nose. The mouth feel is sumptuous and the finish is long and smooth. no rough edges, especially considering its youth.
