Cassis, leather and tobacco aromas give this a classically rustic nose. Palate is rounded and persistent with dark fruits and fine tannins. This is further along its development than many other 2010s. It’s drinking well now with a splash decant.

Same notes and overall profile from our last tasting 3.5 years ago, only this has dramatically improved and softened up on the palate. Paired with broiled filet. The nose is slightly restrained, but the fruit on the palate is really coming through with about 5+ hours of air. Some good red-fruit streaks now complementing the deep, blue, brambly fruit, and there are some savory hints emerging into the dusty finish. This is drinking well now but will be best over the next decade. Drink 2023-2033. Technical score: 93. Enjoyment score: 93.

Chateau de Pez tasting (8 vintages), early Mar 2019 at the Rheingau Gourmet Festival: dark crimson color; bouquet of dark and red berries, especially cassis, plus fresh bread and chocolate notes; spicy, round texture accompanied by berry fruits and tannic expressions in the mouth.
Excellent and noble Chateau de Pez. Already good approachable. The 2010 together with the 2005 vintage showed best at this tasting.

Dark red colour, nose of cherries, black currant and some licorice. Taste is a bit tannic with fresh acidity, quite powerful taste of dark berries and very approchable this young.

Opened and decanted 30-min ahead of garlic roasted chicken and mixed potatoes/veggies. Took about 2+ hours to become accessible. Inky, black purple color. The nose brings blackcurrant, creme de cassis, garrigue-like herbal notes, pipe tobacco, musty leather, and blueberry pie. The palate is full, square, and compact, bringing ripe blackberries, blueberries, cherries, dark chocolate, coffee mocha, more tobacco and dried leather, and tangy raspberries into a tannic finish that lasts about 30 seconds. Still very early for this wine. Not as familiar with St. Estephe wines, but the savory streak is similar to "the rocks" terroir in eastern WA USA. Great frame, balance, and acidity, it needs another 5-10 years for rough edges to refine. Drink 2023-2033. Technical score: 93. Enjoyment score: 91.

The wine didn't open for a long time. On the nose some black currant and cherries combined with somewhat foul smell of egg white. I was at first concerned to drink the wine but after tasting realized it just needed to breath for a very long time. On the pallet some black fruits, tobacco and hints of cassis with plenty of tannins. In my opinion the wine can age for some time but I do not expect it to turn into a much better version of itself as it is now. 89 points and no emotions while drining the wine.

Monthly Men's Wine Dinner (99 Park, Bellevue WA): This St.-Estephe is 48% Merlot, so it's unusual. This was drinkable but not integrated at this stage. The nose was the best part but the body wasn't anything special. My #5 of 5.

Coming along, the wine needs more time for its crisp, fresh, cassis and red plum profile, spice, earth and tobacco can develop. At the moment, the tannins remain a bit firm. Give it time or air.

Tight but aromatic on opening. After an hour in the decanter, it was definitely coming around nicely and the somewhat gritty tannins were softening and rounding out. Blue, slightly sour red and black fruits, in that order on the palate, some hard leather and tobacco notes, with nice twinge of herbaceousness from the Cab Franc coming through and some sweet Oak as well. This wine has room for improvement over the next few years and will likely do so as it is pretty well balanced. A testament to the 2010 vintage making real winners for so many chateaus.

K&L Bordeaux Tasting (Wine and Wall, SF): Richer and more vigorous than the 2012. More prominent green stewed peppers and black fruit. Concentrated, though aromatically the fruit condition seems dirty/unrefined to me. 8.5

Good QPR. Inky purple color. Dark fruits, coffee, and cigar. Good depth on the palate. Tannins still in the forefront. Medium plus finish with a touch of bitterness. This should turn into a nice wine, but give it at least five more years to shed its austerity and come around.

Taste: There is a chunky quality to the medium body with medium acidity and some chewy tannins. Straightforward with tones of leather, dark red cherries, kirsch, and cedar.
Overall: This is a nice and straightforward St. Estephe. It does need some time to come together, but should be a nice drink when it's ready.

Drinking young. Hard to call it New World style or traditional. Nice balance of both. Aromas are muted, but there's black fruit and chocolate there. Kinda both soft and grippy. This has potential for sure.

UCGB tasting Bordeaux 2010 (Brussels): It is many years ago I tasted this wine and the style changed 360°. From very classical to very modern. And, although I liked the old style, this 2010 wine is a great pleasure as well. A rich bouquet with a lot of dark fruits and beautifully toasted oak. On the palate the same with a bit sweet, juicy fruits, good acidity and round tannin and bitterness. In fact already a very tempting and pleasurable wine. In the past this was a wine for the long run, but with this change of style I am not sure if this is still the case. Time will tell and I would love to taste this wine again around 2020 - 2024 to see how it developed. 91 for now.

2010 de Pez From a blend of 52.5% Cabernet Sauvignon paired with 47.5 Merlot, (which is almost the exact assemblage as they used in Haut Beausejour), the wine shows fresh blackberry, licorice, stone and spice aromas. Full bodied with fresh dark berry flavors on the palate, the wine ends with a cassis filled finish. 90-92 Pts
