Dull yellow. Almost an exact replica of the bottle I had in May, 2020. Lighter weight Vouvray, just off dry, apple rather than pear featured, and tremendous precision and cut. Excellent-the acidity that was so prominent early has carried the wine and been fully incorporated.

Medium yellow. More apple than quince. As before, a little lighter than many Chenins from the region, but still pleasing texture. This is truly dry, a classic Sec. Green apple, herb, and a touch of quince. Spectacular, salivary gland stimulating acidity, and a long, persistent coating of earth at the end. A bottle of this last year was advanced and a complete dud. This one was every bit as thrilling as it was when first tasted in 2012. Good bottles should easily keep for another decade, maybe longer with the fiery underlying acidity.
Nez sur agrumes, fleurs blanches, encaustique, miel, amers… en bouche merveilleuse complexité où se conjuguent agrumes (pamplemousse), fruits à noyaux (pêche blanche), pierre à fusil, pommes à cidre, c'est long sur notes amères… très long et salivant ! Superbe vin ! 92+

Dull, deep yellow. Unfortunately, dull was the operative word here. Bruised apple and faint pear scents. This is lacking the glycerine and round feel of the best Chenin Blancs, but it does pack an earthy punch (like, say, Huet's Clos du Bourg bottling). As exciting as the acidity was when it was young and as recently as 4 years ago, it just seemed to be missing in action tonight. No overt oxidation, but rapidly moving in that direction, it seems. Very disappointing given its early promise.

This is my final bottle, and it's not anything like the bottle from October 2017. No bronzing, no concerns about longevity at all. I did open it up to ensure I drank it within the time frame that I felt the last bottle suggested, yet, tonight's bottle was terrific. Full of lemony acidity, nectarine, flint and life. It's how the wine should be and based on this bottle, if it is representative of what the wines are from 2010, should keep going for another 5-8 years, maybe more. But, the moral is that I have found some bottle variation so take my TNs for what they are worth.

Opened this yesterday to share with the Dr Mrs and our dinner. Retasting again today after this evening's meal, without food. There is some golden/bronzing evident in this wine and in fact, this looks a lot like the color on the 2002 Donnhoff we had this past weekend. In terms of flavor, much like the previous bottle a year ago, this seems to be aging quite quickly. It's lost the vibrant acidity/energy that was so delicious when this wine was younger and my sense this is peaking and starting to head downhill. My reference for this remark is Chidaine, and while not the same producer, those 2008s and 2010s are holding up just fine, not showing the acceleration of age that this bottle is reflecting. The aromatic also has a touch of sherry going on, too. It's not ripping the wine up but it's emerging IMO. There is some remaining acidity here, golden apple, nectarine/stone fruit but these are not well delineated anymore. I'm going to hold my final bottle for not more than another six months and then finish it off.
Yum. Taking on a little color, this has rounded out and shed some of its early austerity, with terrific intensity and cut, excellent Chenin fruit, perfectly balancing minerality, with a bit of a savory note on the finish. Fabulous.

This did not scream vouvray to me. And with the vineyard and the vintage, it should have. Only slight hints of wool, wet stone, peach, pear, and bubble gum. Light bodied. Acidity is there. Hate to admit it but the huets have been better...this is gold and great for the price, but not the best I've had.

This is really good. It has softened a bit since I last had this about two years ago, but it it still tightly coiled with quite a bit of dry extract. I wish I had more than just one bottle to follow over the next ten years or so. I'll have to pick up some of the 11 as the 10 is gone from my normal source.

very pale gold in color. nose of honey, ripe apple. , high acidity, med- body, a hint of wool, with zesty citrus flavors (like grapefruit but not bitter in the least) and a short finish. feels coiled up, good but needs time. via Pungo.

P&p; closed and seemingly austere at first, takes 15 minutes to start opening up, and 40+ minutes to really get going - aromas of white peach, lemon/lime, honey, and light sweaty/woolly funk. On the palate it's quite tart and lemony/limey, with cool juicy peach/nectarine, light honey, and a strong current of saline and chalky/stony minerality. High acidity. Fully dry. Moderately silky body. Fairly long, saline, mineral finish. Once it has some air, this is quite nice.
Day 2 (saved in a half bottle) - somewhat richer and fuller, while still bright, citrusy and mineral; drinking well. Guessing this has a long life ahead of it.

Very interesting nose. Pale gold-flecked straw in color. There were some petrol notes reminiscent of Riesling, but also flowers, mint, and lots of wet stone. On the palate, this had fantastic and intense acidity. A hint of creaminess and some heat/pepper on the nice long finish.
Day 2: I had a single glass of this today and it seemed very different. The petrol notes have changed a bit to something waxy or like lanolin. Still great acidity. I think this was even better.

Interesting - this does not really come across as Vouvray to me. Wow, this is REALLY austere. Not in a bad way, but damn. Lemons and minerality for days. Not really shut down, but definitely tightly coiled. Good stuff; I'll be buying more.

Drank this off the wine list at the Montage, so not from my cellar, where the past bottles have been quite stony and highly acid driven. This one last night to me showed a softening of that intensity, not as brisk. Lime, bitter almond, nectarine, peach skin, still good amount of acid. Perhaps this is softening up some now with the time in bottle.

Loving all of my '10 Vouvray Secs, and they're all so different. Foreau's sec is more acidic, less viscous and less sweet than the Huets, but by no means inferior. White orchard fruit, piercing citrus, sea breeze and liquid limestone minerality. This currently shows no tertiary Chenin qualities. I get the feeling this would last forever if I lost it in the cellar. A must buy for the acidophile.

An intense, tightly coiled expression of Vouvray, less rich and sweet than the Huet '10 Secs, and boasting a monumental core of immense promise even more thrillingly electric and deeply wound than the brilliant Le Mont. On the second night, the intensity was dialed back slightly and the flavors broadened revealing rocky orchard fruit awash in honey and ginger on a crystalline web of structure.

I pulled the cork on this about 30 mins ago, got a decent chill on it and put to the glass, with the rest of the bottle being enjoyed over dinner later. With dinner for 4, this bottle won't make Day 2. So to the wine, this aromatically always has reminded me of Chablis when I open it, with that sea air, apple and with the chenin quality, stone fruited with a cool expression. The palate? Lean, apple, mineral water and the same lime skin/pulp note that I called out in my last note when I had this wine in Summer 2013. There is austerity in this wine, and where the 2010 Huet Secs can be a bit more expressive with depth, this Foreau is more intense, rocky in tone, again reminding me of Chablis. Not sure how aeration will affect this wine, and as I said, it won't get to tomorrow but trying to get at a drink window, this will endure for many years, enjoyable now for what I described and still TBD as to what age will do to it. I have 3 bottles left and will peek at one every couple of years going forward. This wine is for lovers of acid, structure and intensity, for which I raise my hand.

Faint sweet dessert on the nose - peach, citrus, honey. Lemon, tonic, quinine. Acidic and refreshing, involves your entire mouth and leaves you wanting to come back for more. The RS works in this one for me.

Light yellow color, like straw in the field with still a touch of green hue lurking in the background. Nose is citrus with primarily grapefruit and minerals. Attack is initially driven by salinity but soon the tart grapefruit and wet stone. The finish is very long and lemon and lime rind notes lingering with the mouth watering acidity. Good complexity and paired perfectly with the selection of Spanish cheese, smoked salmon, olives, and lump crab for valentines day.
Bottle was a gift from Chris S. as well as being one of FMIII favorites so that was a trifecta.

A little petrol on the nose like one gets from a flinty dry Riesling. On the palate there is a ton of minerals and it is very dry with an acid zing. There are notes of lime, tangerine and grapefruit too. I suspect this needs a few years to come around. I find it a little too austere right now for my taste. I do prefer the Vouvray's from Domaine Huet.

NR: "Modern Savennieres cheat you of the experience of the evolition of Chenin."
"Classic vintage, one of our most important growers as he sets the standard of the appellation."
Roasted chestnuts and honey on the nose. Penetrating on the palate, "searing acidity" again. NR "I don't think there is much question that this is a very special terrior and it is one of the reasons you get these classic, well respected wines."
It is the tuffeux soil that creates wines like these and NR has had them back to '21. Phillipe Foreau is apparently adamant and forceful about his ageability of his wines. So this one may not be able to be jumped into right now but time is the reward.
Apparently the '99 is available right now and is drinking amazing.
NR notes "people will say 'that Vouvray is as expensive as white Burgundy. But he response is that is far more complex than a village white Burgundy."
The ageability is two fold - Chenin Blanc and terroir. The acid and the sugar only develop this way in Chennin in Vouvray. "The acid just kinda hangs there as the sugar continues the develop. There are very other serious producers making wonderful wine but they don't have this kind of staying power because of the terroir of the Clos Naudin."
Nice bottle, but the acid is too strong for my liking, albeit the wine very well balanced. Less of a sipping wine and goes much better with food. Huet remains my favorite Vouvray.

good body and fruit density...nectarine and quince, with a lime/tangerine/grapefruity zing that stays on your palate. A nuttiness adds some complexity. Likely too good now for me to be able to stash any away for the long term.

FMIII offered this as his wine of the year and said "have a taste". Never one to let a friend down I obliged. Only tasted Chenin a few times but was very impressed. The acid put me back in my seat, love acid, but just wasn't anticipating it. Strong lemon and lime rind flavor added to the complexity. Paired nicely with our summer BBQ appetizer.

Yet another bottle is finished.....this lime skin really stands out this time, although the chenin flavors were there this time, as well. The acid....beautiful. I love this wine for how it expresses everything together and it all comes through so seamless. Not for the acid faint.....just beware. Still my WOTY (so far).

FMIII's note describes this wine really well. I agree with his chenin meets chablis comment. Very tight and structured, with loads of acidity, and mouth coating texture. Un-ripe pineapple, tart nectarine and pear, lime, quinine/tonic water, almost margarita-like. Lots of saline and mineral. When it warms it has almost an oily mouthfeel. The tartness, intensity and acidic structure are what really stand out though. I will probably add a couple more to follow over the next 5-10 years.

I really like this wine a lot, and this bottle repeated the terrific experience of the last. There is Chenin fruit here--peach skin, nectarine, mango but it's wrapped in a coat of acid and minerality, like a Chenin crashing into a Chablis. Dry, refreshing, yet enough fruit to make this so good in total. The acidity that finishes the wine is pure tangerine and lime, loads of cut and dry structure. Just a great bottle of white, and under 30 bucks, too. Remains my #1 white for WOTY.

After we worked our way through 2 corked bottles, this was the charm. Great 2010 combination of rich (but dry) pear fruit and powerful, mouth puckering acidity. Wow, this is one of those wines that penetrates the deepest recesses of your mouth. Fantastic, but it needs 10 years to soften.

Orchard fruit and quince nose, very mineral, with lots of lemon as well. Palate starts out broad but the finish is very focused with the acidic lemon notes. Best on day four. Longg finish.

Opened two days ago, as my wife asked for a white for a recipe and figured this would fit the bill, plus we'd have a glass for kicks--I didn't pay much attention and pulled the bottle. She says to me the next day, I like this wine, more than Chidaine (the 08 Bouchet, which really rocked me over the past weekend). How dare she say such heresy about Chidaine? Well, she has a point, as this is pretty darn good. Sitting down to really taste this tonight, this is deceptive, as it reflects both pinepapple, green apple and peach, but it's dominated by a lean and acidic frame that is dry and lasered, with a lemon/grapefruit-like finish. This is really a crisp style, in that vein, really good and yet there is enough fruit in the background to still not leave it one-noted. Dig it..........by the way, tasting now on the 4th day, as there is still some left. Still fresh, clean, lively and with all that, it leaves a real strong impression. Now going onto my short list for white WOTY.

Not bad but left me a little underwhelmed. Bone dry with a real kick of acidity followed by hints of melon and honeysuckle. The finish is a bit abrupt. At EUR 14 this needs to deliver more; it just didn't have the depth of flavour or complexity I would expect from top notch chenin. Perhaps it needs time?

initially gave me that "is it corked?" Chenin headfake, but quickly proved clean. Citrus and tonic water, good acids, a bit stern, good wine but not as appealing as the Huet secs to me. B/B+
Too young, yes. But you can clearly see the potential here. Bought a case of this at the domaine and this is the first bottle opened at home. Let s see in 5 yrs where this is going.

Golden color. Took a while for the nose to open up, and was still retiscent after air, revealing quince and sea air. The palate also showed dumb for an hour or two despite decanting, but when it did open up it was full of citrus fruit and sea shells. Finish is not notable at this stage, but is certainly bone dry. Not much complexity, agree with matt182 regarding this being one-note.
I liked this OK, but am unsure how it will age. Day two: showed more melon on the nose, but my main impression was that it was already very sherried for just a night tightly sealed in the fridge. Actually seemed to pair better with salume than with preserved white tuna. 13.5%

Delicious Vouvray Sec and just what I expect from Chenin. Fresh, lively fruit - apple, pear, and citrus - with great depth and weight. Has bright, driven acidity that cuts through the well-weighted body and leads to a wonderful lengthy finish. Great bottle at the price.

Loire Spring Dinner (Heirloom Cafe, San Francisco): Not quite as much bite as when I tried it earlier this month, but still terrific juxtaposition of energetic, coiled acidity and surrounding Chenin flesh. This held up amazingly well to the beautifully spiced lamb dish with which it was paired.

Très long. Très bien.
