Deep color, new Kabinett/old Spatlese level sweetness, this is fully mature, I enjoy but much more advanced than regular 2001 night before (for that matter more advanced than an ‘89 CFE VT recently tasted). Peaches, apricots, and petrol, with a touch of toffee on finish. Enjoyable enough, but CT says I have more of these, need to fine and consume sooner rather than later based on this bottle. B

French White Wine Afternoon on a Beautiful Summer Day (Seattle): Half bottle. Light golden color. Ripe yellow peach and high toned secondary perfume. Rich and sweet for a Trimbach VT wine, but it retains excellent acidity and thrust with increasing spice as it opens. Delightful and fully mature from this smaller format.

Arrived at the end of a long wine flight and shown through. Soft yet bright and still very young and almost primary as a sweet. Stone fruits, soft honey, bright peach and impressive acidity that helps bind everything together in harmony. And finishes with a 2 minute length.. 93 and will live another 20 years easily.

More apricot pit and orchard fruit than lime zest, it's floral and stony with a honeyed note. This is deep and structured, combining the richness of the 375 anniversary bottling with the precision of the CFE. Mineral water, with honeyed fruit, balanced by terrific acidic cut, all with near perfectly balanced RS. Depth and breadth matched with with an equal sense of weightlessness. Expansive, deep, and very long on the palate and finish. This has the same sense of effortless beauty that the CFE has. Early peak for me and pretty fantastic.
To boot: a relatively magnificent pairing with a fresh apple tart.
The last glass on day two was, if anything, a bit better. A brilliant wien with a long future ahead. 95+

This is the first bottle that I've thought is really good and interesting, more so than the bottles I drank a few years ago, which were more in the realm of 'pleasant.' This one has a thin, intense seam of acidity which gives it verve, and just manages to balance out the sweetness of the wine, which I've always found to be quite ample. Hope my remaining bottle or two are similar and plan to drink them this year. This wine has been a bit hit or miss overall for me, and I have no urge to buy it again - or its successors.

Like my last bottle, this one was well along, though not quite as far. Amber color, in keeping with its age and maturity, with a clean, un-soaked cork. Pretty fresh on opening, with pit fruit, caramel, and ample remaining residual sugar. Fat, luscious texture. Drunk cool from the 'fridge, makes a good aperitif, also good sipped with nibbles of Parmesan. Making allowances for my accumulating antipathy towards sweet wines in general, a solid B.

Past it’s prime, I’d say, but still pleasant to drink cool as an aperitif or with salty cheese. Cork was soaked, with residue on top, so possibly an atypical sample. I have a few more & will try another before long.

In some years the CFE VT is basically close to dry. This is not that year. Spatlese level sweetness. Ripe peach, apricot, a honied note with a gingery spice at end. Good acids, full, wasn’t best match for fish but a tasty wine. Held up well over couple days. B+/A-

I never know when to open these wines. They work very well with the foods I enjoy, but somehow feel too special. But hey it’s Monday night, and I’m finally not sick, so what the heck. Crisp peach, botrytis spice and a smooth, immeasurably long finish make me glad I opened it. Sixteen years after the vintage it is just getting towards maturity, with a long future ahead.

Yellow, very healthy color for its age. Restrained stone fruit, no botrytis. Moderately sweet, although stronger acidity makes the sugar less obvious than in the '05 Prager Klaus tasted before it. Middle to full bodied, completely harmonious feel. A ways to go as this has virtually no secondary notes. Fantastic, fascinating wine.

An Evening at the Rock Pile-Trimbach Riesling and de Montille Volnay Taillepieds (San Francisco): Golden, deepest tint of the 3 different Frederic Emiles. Some definite botrytis and citrus notes. Some low pitched stone fruit as well. Full bodied, moderately sweet. Baked apple and spice flavors, retains great acidity. Great wine almost at full maturity. Don't expect an unctuous sweet wine, though. Yes, there is noble rot, but it is more rich than sugary.

Good bottle. Light amber, pure and clear. Petrol, honey, beewax, apricots, peaches, a hint of black tea and gauze bandage. Good structure, nice mineral, ok acidity and quite thick texture. From 750. As the Dr. observes, sweeter than you'd expect from this label, but properly balanced imho between sweet and sour, though with the throw-weight of a good demi-sec Loire Chenin. A very good bottle, which I enjoyed with my family as aperitif over three or four days running.

Half bottle. Light gold. Honeyed, ripe peach aromas. It develops just a bit of mature Riesling perfume later on, which is the first time I've noticed this having tasted bottles back to 2007. Quite sweet, nice spice and a little tea underneath. As opposed to the usual Trimbach style (at this level, rich but not sweet Vendange Tardive wines), this must be the fattest, most loosely structured wine I have ever had from this producer. It has consistently struck me this way and is in sharp contrast to the 2001 regular bottling, which remains austere and tight even at 13 years of age. This is not destined to be a favorite of fans of more mineral, high acid Rieslings.

Served from 375ml format. Tasted non blind with dinner.
Yellow color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of apricots, oranges, lemon verbena and just a wisp of ruby red grapefruit. Flavors of apricots, oranges, kumquats and underlying cherry notes. Medium to bright acidity, full bodied. Drink or hold.

Advanced golden yellow color. On opening, tangy and sour in a way that invites suspicion of minor oxidation, but with air time, rounds out to a nicely-balanced, medium weight wine with good tension, some pit fruit flavors and aromas. Really brought to mind a very good Loire half-sweet Chenin Blanc-based wine, more than an Alsatian Riesling-based one. A bit sweeter than I expected. Very nice, but wonder how long to continue holding these.

Rather reticent at first, but opens out nicely with some time to show some ripe peach and other stone fruit flavours tinged with honeyed, mineral and floral notes. There's good richness here but it doesn't have the precision and focus I usually associate with Trimbach, or the depth and elegance of Trimbach's other CFE bottlings in 2001. Solid, but at the price I'm not a buyer.

Half bottle. Golden with a bit of orange. An initial burst of honey, then low pitched ripe yellow peach. Moderately sweet and quite unctuous on the entry. Interesting herbs, spice mix and ginger followed by a finish that drops off in intensity and is not completely harmonious, carrying soil and bitterness that seem out of place. I'm still having a harder time warming to this than to the other 2001 Frederic Emile bottlings.

Medium yellow color. Nose opens with faint petrol and honey. Very well balanced, nice acid to sweetness ratio. Like the fact that both the sweetness and acid is tempered. Tasting some mild apricot, Meyer lemon and some green apple. Also a guava and kumquat note. Trace minerals on the finish. Hopeful that the nose will become more pronounced and it will become more complex. With more on the nose would have scored in the 90's, especially at this price point where one can buy a amazing dessert wine. Day 2 more nose action including: apple, pineapple and guava. Tastes like it did yesterday. Based on reputation, I was expecting more. Could not recommend at the over $40 price point.

DC Crew's Gem Tasting - 3rd Annual (Palena - Washington, DC): Wow, this riesling really kicked some ass. Gorgeous golden color in the glass. Lush aromas of lemon oil, wax, petrol and guava. The palate is really plump and delicious, just oozing with marmelade, pear and peach fruit, combined with minerals and slate. This is still a really young wine, with layers of complexity. Orgasmic.

Half bottle. Deep yellow. Perhaps a touch of oxidation, but ultimately fresher than it seemed at first with orange blossom, apricot, and botrytis. Richer and sweeter than I had recalled, this was too much for savory courses. Good acidity is present, but it loses the precision, minerality, and cut of the regular bottling. No more than very good on this night.

Trimbach Frederic Emile Retrospective--1979 to 2001 (Absinthe Restaurant, San Francisco): Yellow color with mint and petrol. Rich and off dry-this is sweeter than the 375th Anniversary bottling, and more open and approachable than either of the other two '01 Frederic Emile cuvees. More forward fruit, but more loosely knit and ultimately duller than the other 2 wines tonight. My least favorite of the sweet wines.

I brought this in and the sommelier was gracious enough to pour a taste of the regular Frederic Emile, which was available by the glass. While the "normale" was light, lemony, talc-laden, crystalline, high toned, and tight, the VT was a different animal altogether. Deeper in both color and aromatic "pitch", this was redolent of dried peach and kumquat but did not seem to have much botrytis in evidence. Much more open from the get go, dense, long, and fairly sweet for a Trimbach VT. Versatile match with lobster, sweetbreads, and suckling pig (to be clear, these were all different courses!). After about 3 hours, its underlying acidity became more apparent, and it blossomed a more floral Riesling nose. Both great bottles, but hard to believe they came from the same material. It will take the regular Frederic Emile a long time to become as pleasurable as the VT, but this wine has plenty of development ahead of it as well.

Auction bottles. Held 1 month, all in great shape. Lush, vibrant, and long. This is Vendage Tardives, but dont hold for dessert! This has been a great summer wine for grilled fish, spicy sushi and Cajun food. Lots of life ahead. Great Riesling.

Nice structure. Acidity as well as sweetness, good balance. Not heavy or fat, just lean, sweet, without being oversweet, and pleasant.

Delightful drink in small doses as it is very sweet, aromatic and fragrant. Love the gold colour.

Light gold. Butterscotch nose. Lots going on here. Lemon, grape, lemon custard, apples, grape skins. Quite complex and should age well but already very good for drinking now.

Light gold. Sweet nose. Quite sweet. Gentle but still a bit tight. Peachy, with a bit of grape skins texture on the finish. Spicy. Well-balanced. Very long, warm, finish. Very tempting to drink now but can still improve with more cellaring. Outstanding
