Intense nose of red fruit, flowers and a bit of reduction that blew off after a couple hours. Day two was more interesting with dried flowers and more brambly fruit and nice grip on the finish. Super impressive density and balance for a village wine.

Blind, fairly easy to spot as Roumier Chambolle, but it was so surprisingly open that I thought it could be anywhere between 09-19. This vintage is really a killer; so much denser and more structured without any more heaviness than other villages wines, my guess was actually Cras. Structure-wise, and I do not think this is true across all vintages for Roumier CM villages, this is easily at the spectrum of a higher-end premier cru. So much pleasure to drink. 93-94

2022 New Year's Day Tasting (Atlanta, GA): Pale ruby crimson with larger rim; sexy wine, slight reduction, high toned floral, lifted; a lightness to it, not Grand Cru weight, young and not filled out completely, sweet oak; may not improve much but love the drinkability of this, screams Chambolle which most agreed on; called '13 Le Moine Chambolle Les Amoureuses.

New Year's Day Double Blind Tasting (Atlanta, GA): Tasted double blind. This ranked #4 WOTN for my palate. Very similar to the '05 Laurent CdlR, which edged it out for #3. However, the formal tasting scores had it tied for 3rd place. It goes to show how great village level Burgundy can be when it comes from a great vintage like 2010 and from a great producer like Roumier. Delicious!

This is always one of my favorite village burgundies and once again, it did not disappoint. It took about 30 minutes to open up, which was expected given the vintage.
First of 6 bottles and showing a beautiful nose with less tannins...but still a bit young for me. I think tannins will improve for several more years. No sous bois yet.
A village wine from a great producer that needs time imho. I will wait 3-5 more years for my next bottle but others at the table liked it right now.

Astonishingly good. This absolutely screams 'CHAMBOLLE' with an explosive and beguiling Pinot nose and a palate that's pure silk. And while Burgundy can claim far grander wines, it's hard to recall a Burg that's more satisfying. As good of a village burg as I've ever had and an absolute triumph.

Burgundian Exploration: Really big, structured, stemmy, mineral nose with a more stern personality than the 2005. Beautifully ripe palate. Another success for a village wine from Roumier. This will still take a few years to loosen fully but at the moment, it's saying something pretty interesting about 2010 in general and Roumier Chambolle villages in particular.

good deepish purple color, brooding nose of dark fruits, violets and ripe velvety black cherries, on the palate still a baby, blueberry notes, a smooth and deep vibrant fruit, tranquil on the surface but with a great deal of undeveloped potential underneath, outstanding length, over the course of two hours dark spice notes evolved as well as a densely lush- and yet supple- dark cherry fruit that coated a rather firm and large scale structure, soft notes of leather and earth, floral notes going into retreat, plums, this is drinking beautifully but experience tells me that in a decade this is going to be a study in silky nuances along with a volume that will make it- like its bigger brothers Bonnes-Mares and Musigny- truly thrilling, the 1988 and 1995 have long been my reference points for the greatness of this wine and this could well surpass them in time, as good as it gets.
(****)+, 2030+ though I think in 5-7 years it will begin to unfurl and start getting very interesting.

Pop and pour. Ruby with light translucence. Nose a bit closed at first, some spice, cool dark cherries. Palate some sappy fleshy black cherries, very bright acidity; silky texture; great balance. Opens up as it sits, recommend decanting at this point. Lovely and drinking well right now but obviously high upside. 92 pts

Popped-and-poured, this started out as so accessible with bright red fruit and a huge spicebox that seemed whole cluster dominant to start. Good+ weight and length when first tasted, this seemed to get longer and bigger with more time in glass, but also slightly backward.
1/3 bottle remained the next day, at which point it was more harmonious vs the day before, still seeming very big and dense for Villages level wine, and still very whole clustery.

Domaine Roumier seems to be my favorite producer in all of Burgundy and this wine supports it.
Initially very reductive nose, upon swirling and coaxing, shows knock out aromas of violets, lavender, black, red and blue pinot fruit, all in equal measure. Where it gets truly amazing is on the palate, where it shows trademark Roumier texture of pure silk and cashmere. Gorgeous, almost 1er cru level of sappy dry extract. Such a powerful wine, yet weightless and seamless. Can drink now, but I would recommend to hold for another 5-10 years.
It is this good.

Tight-fisted. After some (vigorous) swirling, this opened up to a nose of red-berries and flowers. Red-fruited (and with a bit of reduction), the palate was equally tight but one can definitely feel the intensity (and structure) coiled within, along with well-mannered and classy tannins. This is anything but a village in name/label. Will definitely improve with age...

Popped and poured. Relatively dark for a Chambolle. Hints of reduction on the nose which was amplified with Zalto Universal. On the palate this was medium-bodied with ample dry extract. Dark fruited with excellent structure. This has the stuffing to age.

Certainly a good and well-made bottle of wine, but nowhere near ready (as might have been expected). Vs. the 2009 tried at this same time last year, one might have flipped the vintages. That was elegant with noticeable acidity, while this was dark and brooding. Tannins there but a nice add. They'll round out and the now-excessive oak will integrate, making this excellent in 4+ year's time.

Suave and alluring. As it opened after an hour in the glass, the oak and structure dominated with a mocha character. I knew it'd be too young in the long run, but the first hour was quite enjoyable and it served its purpose: one quick pour to many glasses to honor a generous host.

Surprisingly approachable. Great pure aroma of fresh forest, raspberry, strawberry and red flowers. Light to medium body. Slight hint of spices and pepper. The elegant floral aroma was so attractive at middle of palate. The red berry and raspberry taste was not so strong. Solid body with great balance. Drank very comfortably now.

Some More Wine with Meals in Burgundy; 5/11/2014-5/19/2014 (Burgundy): Popped and poured, consumed over an hour+ with lunch. started with lots of fresh red berry and cherry, bright and cheerful with lots of energy. Fruit picked up weight and intensity with more time in glass, then started seeming to shut down towards the very end, while still displaying significant weight. Good now, better in a few years.

Oeil rubis limpide.

Very good village wine. Cherries, mineral and a lactic touch to the flavours. With air it dissapears and the wine becomes better and less fleshy. It has excellent stuffing and it should age very well. Would love to retaste in 5-10 years time.

Changiert wirklich stark. Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): Tasted double blind. Very forward start on both nose and palate, almost seemingly New World but with Old World Pinot Noir textures. Red cherry and strawberry, very clean and pristine but just moderate finesse or structure. I was very surprised when this was unveiled, seeming very different than when I tasted a year ago when in Burgundy or last week in NY. But I will point out that this was just shipped to Chicago within the past couple of weeks.

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion - New York NY): Tasting. Red and black cherry aromas, more red chery on palate. Big spice component on both. 12 th Burgundy tasting - Reds part 2 (Rotterdam, Netherlands): Opened and checked at 09.00hrs and left to breathe until 14.30hrs. The core shows a medium intense, but translucent yet bright ruby core with some clearing at the rim. The nose is also medium intense, but quite defined and has that certain edge which Roumier’s Chambolles always seem to have. I want to write “pointed”, but that isn’t really based in anything concrete. At his early point in its evolution it is still elegant en understated, but notes of red flowers & raspberry, a hint of laurel leaf and fresh thyme can all be easily determined. This classy village is medium bodied on the attack and has medium-plus completely buffered acidity, which is complemented in the structural sense by finely chiseled medium-minus tannins. On the mid-palate, slightly more than medium intense red cherry flavours have a slightly candied edge, but an impression of some serious potential adds tension here. Overall however, this wine has exemplary balance which make it a very pleasant drink at this early stage. On the 20-25 second finish it manages to find an extra little burst of energy and a slight infusion of cretaceous minerals, which make it impossible to award less than 88 points and this too has serious upwards potential, which may take the better part of a decade to be unlucked.............. The nose offers immediately a hint of minerality and red and some dark aromas – rasp/strawberries and some cassis. In the mouth the usual red fruits (cherry, raspberry, ...) and a fantastic Chambolle minerality. Time in glass / decanter was very importand - gained a lot with time!

good deepish purple color, brooding nose of dark fruits, violets and ripe velvety black cherries, on the palate still a baby, blueberry notes, a smooth and deep vibrant fruit, tranquil on the surface but with a great deal of undeveloped potential underneath, outstanding length, over the course of two hours dark spice notes evolved as well as a densely lush- and yet supple- dark cherry fruit that coated a rather firm and large scale structure, soft notes of leather and earth, floral notes going into retreat, plums, this is drinking beautifully but experience tells me that in a decade this is going to be a study in silky nuances along with a volume that will make it- like its bigger brothers Bonnes-Mares and Musigny- truly thrilling, the 1988 and 1995 have long been my reference points for the greatness of this wine and this could well surpass them in time, as good as it gets.

From a big Burgundy tasting that included:
2002 Coche Dury Meursault Rouge
2002 Meo-Camuzet Aux Boudots
2001 Meo-Camuzet Les Chaumes
2005 Jacques Frederic Mugnier Clos de la Marechale
2008 Vogue Chambolle-Musigny
2010 Georges Roumier Chambolle-Musigny
2014 Henri Gouge Nuits-Saint-George
2005 Jean Grivot Beaux Monts
See my notes for other wines for more details and comparison.

Nose is rose, raspberry, and a hint of spice. Flat on taste - so sweetness just fruit and some tannin with a long delicate finish. Amazingly young - still needs time to come together.

Bouche souple.
Un bon vin mais trop jeune
