2010 Château Peyrabon entered its drinking window and offered drinking pleasure. The maturing Cru Bourgeois was clear and medium ruby in colour with a trace of fine sediments. Developed nose of dried blackberry, preserved tangerine zest and leather were accompanied by Oriental spices and black olives.
The mouthfeel was dry and medium-bodied, with medium levels of balanced acidity and chalky tannin. There were flavours of dried blackcurrant, liquorice, tobacco leaf and a hint of pencil shavings in a medium finish. The alcohol level was at 14%. The empty bottle weighed 501 grams.
While it did not have the concentration nor the polish that the best Médoc could offer, it was drinking incredibly well, with a good balance of fruits and tertiary characteristics.
The blend is composed of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. The wine is raised in 50% new French oak for fourteen months.

PnP. Clear, dark ruby purple. Nice proper med intensity nose. Good from the get to. Classic mid grade claret drinking very well. Resolved tannins with still a slight dusty edge at the end of finish. Balanced and integrated. Wonderful with rib eye roast. Nothing off. $17.

Gentle decant off the sediment. Ready to go. Dried black cherries and liquorice on the nose. Almost clafoutis-like palate with a creamy tartness but rich cherry and cassis fruit at the core. Medium plus finish. Tannins are superfine. Similar outcome with second bottle. Good QPR.

Opened and decanted 3-4 hours before having on a lamb cottage pie. Really good: beautiful dark red (brownish) colour. Beautiful legs on the sides of the glass. Nose full of cherries, a bit of chocolate, a hint of cloves. Surprisingly present tannins for an 11 year old, but they are magnificently rounded, soft and silky. Very long in the mouth, with long-lasting hints of sweetness and chocolate at the back of the tongue.

Had this wine with magret and enjoyed it a lot. Very nice nose, with earth tones, followed by a slightly floral bouque. Like this a lot for the price point. Glad I have 11 more.
Dark ruby colour, some sediment. Dark fruit flavors including dark cherry, black currant, blackberry and plum are joined by cedar, pencil shaving, espresso, tobacco, spices and earth, with medium-level acidity, fine, grippy tannin and good length. The alcohol is warming today, but other than that the medium-bodied wine drinks well and shows good sense of place. A little tired on day two, yet still enjoyable on days three and four. Good value.

Nose is expressive. Fresh blackberries. Cedar. A bit of smoke.
Palate tastes fresh. Medium tannins. But notes are closed off initially. Much better after 3-4h decant. More obvious black/blueberries. Oak. Not much in the way of tertiary though

Beware of some faux-corkedness on the initial pull. Just a couple minutes and it blew off. This is super drinkable, a little cheesey but mostly black/blue with a touch of vanilla on a long finish which would be hard to match at this price. Drink now. Drinking great.
Perfect example of low priced wine from a great vintage delivering the goods when given the time to mature. This was our second bottle in as many weeks and the experience has been consistent. Wonderful elegant nose with a hint of oak. Tasting black currant and black cherry. Medium to full bodied, overall good balance with tannins still stronger than expected. Seems to be at perfect drinking age, but I don’t think this will fade any time soon.

Has developed beautifully, dark color, ok bouquet, opened up nicely, structured tannins, good fruit balanced, nice sipping wine, great cabernet flavor, drank with grilled leg of lamb, would drink again but on to a new vintage, a pleasure to drink this 10 year old wine,

(7/2/20) I had my last two bottles of this in November 2019 and purchased them from the same retailer as this bottle. At that time, I concluded that this wine was a total crapshoot given how nice one was and how past it the other was. Well, if this wine is a crapshoot, I threw a 7 or 11 on my come-out roll this time.
This bottle was excellent. It was very dark and young looking, and on PnP there was a great deal of primary fruit on the nose and palate. It was well concentrated and drank very young for the first half hour in the glass. After that, some very agreeable sous bois notes began to emerge on the nose and the palate, along with other tertiary characteristics. The balance between primary and tertiary characteristics was perfect in the end, and the balance between the major elements was also very good. There was very good intensity in this bottle, and it had medium-plus acidity and ample but refined tannins. This was a real treat and at $22 USD, it was also a steal; 14% abv. (***+/16.5/92)

Palate is a lot less generous, showing some the same dark fruit, muted, but with an added dimension of green bell peppers and graphite. Tannins are soft and resolved. Overall, not very giving, although aerating helps a lot. It seems to tone down the greenness and bring out more fruit. Actually drinking somewhat nicely now, a full week after opening the bottle. Not great, just nice.
I don't know what stage this is in... was the fruit weak to begin with and now that the tannins have faded there's only an empty husk left? Or is it in a difficult adolescence, waiting to come out on the other side? Who knows. Next bottle in 5 years at least. Then we will know.

Very nice and unexpected that it will be that nice, almost great. Dark berries, deep and rich in nose. Nice oak and still primary fruit. Soft tannins, well integrated acidity and intens.

This bottle couldn’t have been more different from my last. Upon opening and pouring one glass, it displayed extremely heavy vegetal notes on the nose that obscured any other aspects of the bouquet that might have been there; the same with the palate.
An hour in the glass didn’t help, so down the sink it went. I contemplated introducing the rest of the bottle to the Chicago sewer system, but decided to vacuum seal it and see if a day made any difference. (Given how my last bottle fared overnight, I didn’t expect a positive result.)
By the next evening, the wine had amazingly shrugged off all the vegetal stuff; sadly, there was not much else left. It tasted okay and was vaguely tertiary, but it was decidedly unimpressive. The score is for the second day.
In summary, it would seem that this 2010 Haut-Medoc is a total crapshoot at this point. (*/13.5/80)

This wine was tasted from a 750ml bottle and had a wonderful nose right from PnP that was just starting to show some tertiary characteristics. These were backed up by a core bouquet of energetic, primary fruit (made from a blend of 59% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot, 4% cab franc, and 2% petit verdot). The wine had good concentration and intensity, medium acidity, and light, ripe tannins that are resolving but not gone. Everything was balanced, and it had a surprisingly long finish. At a cost of $22 USD and with with nearly a decade of age under its cork, it was an absolute gem. (***+/16/91)
Day 2: After twenty-four hours under vacuum seal in the fridge, this has completely fallen apart. Down the drain.

dark color, rubyish rim. aromatically pleasant with dark fruits, earthy soil minerality, background oak. on the palate high acids, plenty of midpalate weight, a high amount of moderately ripe tannins, moderate alcohol. wine is balanced, has shortish length, good intensity, ok complexity. i found this wine extremely disjointed on the palate despite the hard and soft elements being in balance... i wonder if this bottle was past its prime... i'd start checking these out if you have them.

Pop and poured. Drank first half tonight with Ribeye. Heavy bodied, mix of fruit and mineral, touch of oak. Good balance, 14% alcohol, med-high acidity. Vacuum-closed. Looking forward to tasting it tomorrow. DAY 2: Still going strong, a bit smoother, fruit still intact. Overall, slightly better. 89 points. Drink or hold. Should drink well for at least another 2-5 years.

The wine looks purple colored. The legs are slow. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, black currant (cassis) and oak. It tastes like blackberry, black currant (cassis), oak and vanilla. The body is full. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.
Popped and poured; consumed over three days. Best on Day #3. Cassis, tobacco, pencil shavings and a touch of olive. Solid if not terribly exciting claret. Throwing a good amount of sediment. Drink now with a decant.

Pleasantly surprised. Great nose-dark fruit, cedar, slight oak classic claret really. Taste is full with a ripe fruit, slight almost salt flavour and a good but not great finish. For the money this is excellent.Even at today's cost price I think this is a good buy- about £15- say $20- I've drunk much worse for much more

Nice everyday haut-médoc. Classic in style, earthy and positively oaky with good stuffing, enough development, smooth and easy drinking. Swedish monopoly price 249 sek is a bit steep, more like €18-20.

I drank this bottle over the course of three evenings. The wine was dark ruby in colour and threw some fine sediment. It had an expressive nose of floral notes, red and dark fruit, vegetal notes, pencil shaving, spices, some espresso and cocoa. On the palate the wine showed red and dark fruit, black currant, vegetal notes, graphite, spices, coffee and cocoa, with fine, grippy tannin and very good length of the fruit-bitter finish. This is the third time in only twelve months I am drinking this wine and each time the wine showed differently. Today the wine seemed riper, but also firmer, and the tannin had more grip. It drank best on day three. I would recommend holding your bottles for another year or two and start drinking from 2019. 89+ for now.

Directly after opening the wine was very primary with unripe or young notes. After a couple hours it changed substantially. There is acidic and tannin structure with dark fruits but not a whole lot lingers. Good wine but not complex.

Dark, dark purple. Dark fruit, spice, and some wood on the nose. Good acidity and some strong tannin. Solid fruit on the palate as well. Nice drinking now but will benefit from more time to balance out and reveal something more interesting. Very good value.

PnP through an aerator. Initially tight, dark fruit, currants and plums. Then Earthy with spice and some oak. Pretty good, just tight. By the end, two hours later, it was much more integrated the dark fruit mellowed to a mix of red and black currants. The spice and oak are still there, but now throughout making it much more smooth. Definitely needs decanting. Good buy at under $20.
4 hour decant. Simple dark currant flavours with lashings of oak and perhaps some smoke. Healthy nose, with a generous dose of flavours on the palate, and a layered finish. This has a very pleasing symmetry from a drinkers perspective. This wine has character. It seems like the whole vineyard is inside each bottle. 88-89 points.

Upon first opening it didn't show much character. Lots of dark fruit, but fairly one-dimensional. I didn't feel too bad about it given the $20 price tag. After being open about an hour though - my goodness did this open up. Clove, red and black fruit, allspice, and a very nice balance of tannin & acidity. Poured out everything down to a solid amount of sediment. Surely decant this one, it's worth it.

The wine was dark ruby in colour and threw some sediment. It offered dark fruit, dark cherry, black currant, blackberry, plum, graphite, spices, some espresso and some cocoa as well as hints of cedar and tobacco on the nose and palate, with medium-plus acidity, fine, medium-plus tannin and very good length of the slightly bitter finish. The medium- to full-bodied wine had good concentration and complexity. It was interesting to see how different the wine tasted on the ground compared to a glass I had on a Singapore Airlines flight a while ago – equally interesting, yet on the ground less leafy and earthy, and overall more complex. The wine should benefit from further cellaring and I would start drinking from 2018+. Good value.

Should be a higher rated wine - textured, complex but silky smooth. Just learning Haut-Medoc, but impressed so far with taste and value.
Sharing what I found online: The vineyard of Chateau Peyrabon has a terroir of sand, gravel, clay and limestone soils. The vineyard is planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon , 35% Merlot , 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot . On average, the vines are close to 25 years of age.

Open 18 hours. Fine dark ruby, no sign of age. Good legs. Good dark fruit, minerals, graphite, and a whiff of cedar. Very fine in the mouth. Smooth, minerally, full-bodied but sleek, with a long finish with nice oak in evidence. Plenty of life ahead. Very fine for the money. 4-12-16-8: 90/100.

Singapore Airlines Business Class selection. The excellence of the vintage clearly shines through in this Cru Bourgeois. Delightful dark fruit and hint of vanilla and oak on the nose, but not overpowering. Slight hint of heat on the nose but not apparent on the palate. Superb mouthfeel, though just a bit watery on the mid-palate, but a nice medium finish with fruit and hint of menthol. Smooth and creamy with fine tannins. Extremely well balanced and drinking well now.

Business Class Selection on Singapore Airlines. The wine was dark ruby in colour. It had a reserved nose, but the palate was more rewarding and offered leafy black currant, plum, cherry, bell pepper and earthy flavours, supplemented by a mineral touch, with medium to medium-plus acidity and tannin and good length. The savoury, medium-bodied wine was balanced and harmonious. A classic claret! Good value.

Below average Bordeaux with very limited fruit and mute flavours in general. At this price point, in my opinion you're much better to go with a Californian or Australian wine of Bordeaux varietals as you can at least be confident the fruit will be ripe whereas you're never sure with mid-to-lower end Bordeaux.

Well balanced, pleasantly drinkable upon opening. Dark fruits and earth with depth and weight and a nice balance of acid and tannin to carry this one for a few years. For a cru bourgeois in a bin at Costco on offer for $17.99, this one of the great Bordeaux bargains I've seen lately.

Good with enough air--blueberry, cocoa, generous tannins, and floral perfume--but will be better with 2 more years in the bottle. Give it a long decant, or let it sleep for a while.

Very good QPR. Rich in fruit (dark red and blue berries) that is balanced with earth and tannin. All melds together in a soft yet robust mature Bordeaux. Has depth that is best appreciated with decanting. Long finish.

Popped and poured. Aromas of blackberry, currant, crushed rock and dried herbs. A black and red fruit core with graphite, spice and well integrated tannins on the palate. Leads to a medium to long finish. Full bodied. Better with air time, should be decanted.

Wine is slighty cloudy and bright in appearance. Deep ruby red in color and showing medium viscosity. On the nose the wine has a medium concentration of aromas such as ripe black currant, plum, and black cherry. Non-fruit aromas include herbs and tea. There is an earthy character represented by notes of iron. In addition there is a noticeable presence of oak marked by aromas of baking spices and pepper. On the palate the wine is bone dry with medium plus tannin, medium plus acidity, and medium alcohol. Overall the wine is medium in body with a medium finish and has a medium degree of complexity.

59% Cabernet Sauvignon 35% Merlot Small quantities of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot
After reading up on this producer (a negotiant for Millesima) I wanted to like it because large formats are readily available, but it falls short. Peyrabon does not grow but sources its grapes in Haut Medoc. For a vintage such as 2010, this wine is underwhelming. Nose of alcohol, green stems (possibly from Cab Franc component) and aspirin. Can’t find the fruit. On the palate the wine is light to medium weight with strong acid and plentiful tannins. The kind that coat your tongue and teeth. Day 2 – More of the same, alcohol, aspirin, and some dark fruits in the back ground. Palate fleshed out a bit, but ripe fruit is lacking with tannin and high acid dominating. Day 3 - Black stewed plums joined the show, but this wine is still dominated by tannin and acid. Retailing at $20 there are better options. (see notes on Pierre de Montignac & D'Aurilhac) Purchased from retail store and consumed over three day at 60-65 without food. This may have been better with a fatty stew or braised meat… Na zdrowie

Deep-to-opaque crimson and brimming with aromas of ripe cassis, plum, cocoa and allspice, this wine excites from the get-go. It is a medium-bodied, very approachable Bordeaux with fresh acidity, silky tannins, nicely integrated alcohol (listed as 14%) and flavors which mirror the nose. Solid in the middle and long on the finish, it performs well above its pedigree and illustrates the strength of the 2010 vintage. Enjoy it over the next five or six years. Drink now-2020.

Tasted next to the 2010 Château Du Glana, which the Peyrabon bested. This great example of backward Bordeaux showed beautifully. Agreeable nose of blackcurrant, graphite, and minerality. Juicy and rounded palate that strengthens from front to back. Blackcurrant, gravel, and graphite star on the palate. Excellent acid and great grip linger through a long tooth-coating finish.

Tour de France Blind Tasting: Dark purple and opaque colour. Instant nose of wood and liquorice with dark fruit, blackberries, and dirt. On the palate is a very bold wine with mouth gripping tannins and a long dry finish. Blind tasting narrowed it down to Bordeaux region, Cabernet based. My least favourite of the night, groups last pick as well. Drank leftovers the next day, still very tight proving this should be held for at least 5 more years before it reaches its prime.

At home. Black ruby, quite opaque. Decent legs. Good blackcurrant fruit in the nose. Oak. Smooth, sleek mouthfeel. Medium-bodied. Nice dollop of plump fruit in the mouth. Round and feminine, but plenty of structure, and well-balanced. This is tasty, and well-priced at Costco around $20. 4-11-16-8: 89/100.

1983 vs. 1986 Sauternes Blind Tasting (Menlo Park, CA): Tasted blind. Youthful purple color; nose of purple fruit, dense, black fruit; full bodied, purple fruit, modern styled 2010 Bordeaux? Unbalanced. 85-87 After unblinding: I pegged this as a 2010 Bordeaux, modern styled. Would have easily been confused for a low-medium end California cab, and that is not a compliment.

This bottle was a bit young, but it was still enjoyable. Certainly not as good as others in the same price range though.
A decent nose of black cherry, black currant, vanilla, olive.
On the pallet there is some fruit up front that is quickly dominated by leather, tobacco and earth notes. A moderate finish anise and other black spice.
I found the tannins to be harsh and a bit overbearing. Decanting helped and the bottle softened over the next few hours.

There was very good intensity in this bottle, and it had medium-plus acidity and ample but refined tannins. This was a real treat and at $22 USD, it was also a steal; 14% abv. (***+/16.5/92)

Explosive aroma of blackberries and cassis.

Sadly I think this wine is on its last leg.
Opened nicely with cassis, black fruits and vegetal notes but quickly was overtaken by the vegetal note and went very unfavorable.
Most of it went down the drain - would recommend consuming any outstanding bottles.

It tastes like blackberry, black currant (cassis), oak and vanilla. The body is full. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity.

Good value.

(see notes on Pierre de Montignac & D'Aurilhac)
Purchased from retail store and consumed over three day at 60-65 without food.
