On the nose there's baked plums, match sticks, black liquorice & black cherries ~ On the palate it's medium bodied with moderate tannins & moderate + acidity & flavors of cassis, ripe strawberry, blackberry & dark chocolate ~ Enjoyable but unremarkable

Solid domestic syrah thats not over the top and almost old world in style and weight. Only negative is a hint of heat even though Alc is listed at 13.5% and slightly overpriced at $17. I'd like this better at $10-$12.

Not a lot of complexity here, but a decent enough bottle. Medium weight, lovely color. Not much nose. Thin treads of chocolate here and there, fruity on the palate.

A ruby color with smells of blackberry, oak and pepper with some other light spice. The first taste has blackberry and red currant with a bit of raspberry and pepper on the finish. A subtle dryness with a smooth finish with medium-light body.
Nice QPR.

Deep garnet appearance. Fragrant nose of black fruit, scorched earth, chronic, cardamom, and spices. The mid-bodied palate is crisp, fresh, and very accessible, juicy but dry, with good amounts of cherry and berry fruit, and a medium finish.

I think this wine must have improved over the last year because tasting notes from 2012 look strange to me. I had a bottle with nice subtle spice on the nose and finish, berries on the palate; easy to drink but also worth savoring. Scoring it at 91 because of the eminently reasonable price, though the other tiers of Qupe's syrahs are certainly more noteworthy.

Wasn't sure what to expect based on the tough notes here. Nothing wrong with this bottle. A bit one dimensional but perfectly solid, full of black pepper and deep fruit and earth notes. For 13 bucks in PA, a can't-miss.

Raspberry and brambly fruits with a slightly dusty nose. Opened up after about 3 hours. High toned red fruits on the palate. Plenty of acidity. 13.5%ABV

Much better on Day 2. Opens up with blackberry/blueberry and nice briny saline notes on finish. Not overly complex and lacking depth but a decent fruity quaffer at $17.

Very average bottle. We were disappointed, as we typically really enjoy Qupe and think it often over-delivers for the price point. But this was altogether uninspiring. Not bad wine, just certainly not good wine.

Blind at store: Black-blue fruits, fresh, lighter style, translucent, fresh strawberry, grapey, easy and grape candy; lower alcohol, simple, but balanced. Guessed OW Grenache. Deceiving, especially after the monster alcoholic Dubost! Very difficult to generalize about CA Syrah, but this is definitely on the lighter, restrained side.

PMcCullough: subtle berries and fruit on nose. Nice ruby red color. Taste is unimpressive. It's pallet able and a nice every day drinking but lacks any "wow" factor.

Dark Ruby Red with notes of cherries and raspberries. Balanced, very dense and jammy with a hot finish...not my favorite from Qupe. The Los Olivos Cuvee 2009 was much better.

The Rhone Rangers (City Winery, 155 Varick Street, New York, NY 10013): The nose showed sweet mixed berries, dark chocolate and a hint of funk. On the palate, ripe red berries turned lean and tart with hints of pepper leading into a medium-long finish. This was very enjoyable and a great value pick.

Didn't like it so much the first day. Too much jam flavors and little else. More balanced the second day. I expected more punch and spiciness overall. I don't expect to get this again.

Juicy, dark fruits (black raspberries, black currants, black cherries) on both the nose and palate, medium-bodied with a full midpalate but a short, hot finish. Tasty, but needs a bit more going on than just fruit.

Found this to be too new/generic. Bouquet: Moss, smoked gouda, a sharp but mild sting of gunpowder. Palate: Overly simplistic, too new, no standout negatives, cloudy flavors lacking complexity.
