  • Solid Barbaresco -- drinking well now. Light with dried red fruit, clean crisp finish

  • Tasted at the Produttori with Aldo Vacca. The wine was coravined. It was medium to dark garnet with a slightly bricked edge. The nose was quite floral, earthy and spicy with minerals sous bois and dried fruit/raisins. Palate had medium(+) acidity and tannin and a rich, chewy texture. Very savory on the mid palate and long on the finish with some dried cherry and and baking spice. This is deep rich and complex but seems to be tiring a bit. I would suggest this hot vintage is in need of drinking up. It is possible that this needs a good bit more air than in our tasting which could make this show better.

  • Very fruit-driven. Would expected slightly more complexity, but very enjoyable. Approachable but still quite young.

  • Quite muted and undeveloped. A lot of undeveloped fruit and tannins. Promising. Needs time.

  • Dekantert 1 time. Tobakk, roser og kirsebær. Pent utviklet og flott balansert. Mye bedre enn forrige flaske som virket mer utviklet enn denne her. Bestod 15-års testen med glans! 91+

  • I think it is time to consume this wine. The heat of the vintage showed a bit too much with stewed fruits and an elevated level of alcohol.

  • Color was completely rusty with some brick on the rim. Lots of flaky sediment.

Nose gave off lots of aromas like a Port actually. Kinda Colheita-ish. Plum, raisin, oak, wood and some red fruit. Palate was nice and acidic but definitely aged! Roses and violets with red berries, especially morello cherry. Some tea and tobacco notes too.
    Super interesting!

  • Age-appropriate color; red fruited, slightly earthy, slightly floral; light-medium bodied with medium-plus tannins, medium-plus acidity, red fruited, slightly earthy; finish is medium length. A very solid barbaresco, if unremarkable for the reputation. Still not a bad value at $50 on release. 90

  • Ekstremt lukket ved åpning, trengte 5 timer for å åpne opp. Kom seg med luft etterhvert med tjære og tørkede roser på duft. Elegant i munn med fin sødme i midtpartiet.

  • Delicious dark berries, earth, and floral notes on the nose and palate with savory tannins and a moderate long finish. Really enjoyed this bottle!

  • had this on night one and was unremarkable... on night two had an inch left in the bottle (which had been gassed and fridge'd overnight), poured it and was fantastic on the palate with nice fruit but also some spice umami... even then, almost gave this a 91, but also thought if it hadn't show the heat of the vintage (could taste the 14.5% alcohol) it could have been 93 so settled in the middle... wondering if by keeping these another ten years the alcohol will fade a bit?... any input on that idea is appreciated

  • Clear medium ruby, a bit deeper than typical for Nebbiolo; nose is aromatic, menthol, red cherry, a slight roasted character to the fruit, some roses; palate is light bodied, still fairly primary fruit, midpalate is a bit less fruit-centric but without much secondary or tertiary complexity to replace it, acidity is medium-plus, feels a bit plusher than typical, alcohol is medium-plus but well balanced; finish is medium length, clean. This is a nicely drinking Barbaresco, perhaps a slight bit more roasted and plush than expected (likely due to the warm vintage), and not showing a ton of complexity right now, though the alcohol is not out of place. No rush, but I'm also not certain this will improve much, as I would have expected a bit more at age 13. 89
1 hour in: Everything I said initially is true, and the plushness maybe does infringe on its sense of place and character a bit, but it is a very nicely balanced wine and it is surprisingly easy to drink with a meal. Worth its going rate. 90
Tasted frequently over the subsequent 6 hours. The heat did start to show more after 2-3 hours, which wasn't too bad except it definitely did distract from a sense of place. 89-90

  • score is for night two... opened this -- the first of 6 btls I bought a decade ago -- and thought is was over done with the vintage heat apparent and almost 15% alcohol (which I don't like), didn't taste bad but was too big / in-your-face for my taste... gassed and fridged the half bottle left at the end of the night and on night two it had improved immensely, still on the big side but the heat was gone, and the sweet fruit had come out to play, but also enough structure to balance... really nice on night two... decant a very long time if drinking day of opening

Litt kort i smaken. Dette var nok en svak flaske, med mulig men tolererbar korkfeil.

  • Dekantert. Super syre i forhold til frukt. Slank, slik jeg vil ha den. Kirsebærstein. Mandel.

  • Excellent Barbaresco that really paired well with the chicken, shiitake, and sun-dried tomato skillet during the first/second nights of star party.

  • The most surprising thing about the '07 Muncagota was the glass full of sediment that came from the bottom of this bottle, even after standing up for two weeks.

On the nose I found a rich, dark fruited mix of black cherries in liquor, with hints of brown sugar, sage, tobacco, balsamic spice, and smoked meats. Velvety textures greeted me on the palate, as dark red fruits washed across the senses, leaving mineral-tinged spice, leather and cedar tones in their wake with a hint of grippy tannin offset by zesty acids. The finish was long, resonating on balsamic spices, saline minerals, zesty (almost unruly) acids and dried black cherry with a bitter twang.

In the end, this is an enjoyable bottle of wine right now, if you're looking for full-throttle Nebbiolo to go with a meal, but it also lacks any sense of terroir, and shows the heat of the vintage more than anything else.

  • Not sure where all these 88-91 scores are coming from. This was an excellent wine and matched up well against a Howell Mountain cab that was over double its price. Still plenty of structure and acid for longer term aging. I would say it should be entering prime drinking window in 2+ years.

  • Consistent with previous note.

  • At 10, this hits the sweetspot between youth and maturity. The rather warm vintage is evident from the sweetness of pruney fruit and some heat on the finish, but there is impressive depth and complexity to match. Dried rose petals, cherries, wax, anise and some minty herbs and underbrush. Big and bold palate, with very good length and plenty of structure for the long haul, but I rather like it now...

  • Enjoyable. Seeming more advanced than its 10 years of age. Deep ruby, bricking and ocre at the rim. Old leather, dried and preserved red fruits, earth, road tar and cinnamon on the nose. Also some dried tobacco leaf. Similar in the mouth. Below medium weight though with bright acidity. Dried red berries, soil, dry brushwood and creosote. A little umami soy. Rich with fully ripe tannins. Finishes dry and relatively long. Quite forward for a Produttori Riserva so therefore a good one to drink relatively young.

  • slow ox ~4 hours, nice red fruits but med+ body, great companion to picking at the sauteed oyster mushrooms before dinner, stood up well against a pretty good lineup of wines; still has many years ahead of it

  • A bit dark and rich, more than I would hope. Still, good rose and tar along with dark cherry. A bit disjointed, not sure time will solve, as already pretty far on the curve. Yet, enjoyable enough.

  • On the rich and dark side. Rich cherry fruit. Approachable now, but I will hold my last bottle for at least 4-5 more years.

  • Popped and poured. Deep garnet core, bricking rim. Lovely nose with hints of cherries, marzipan, roses, liquorish and cedar-wood. On the palate the wine kicks off brilliantly showcasing massive depth of flavour and lots of refreshing acidity. However, as opposed to the Rabajà, which only seemed to get better the more air it consumed, this cru sadly flattens out somewhat and takes on a slightly pruney character after a couple of hours in the glass. Probably stupid to generalize based on a single sample, but after this I’m certainly inclined to leave my remaining Rabajà a lot longer than my remaining Muncagota.

  • Lunch with Aldo and Renato at Trattoria Antica Torre, Barbaresco: We were discussing and comparing various Produttori vintages with Aldo (see later) and got onto 2007 and comparisons with 2009 ... Aldo went back to the winery and came back with this wine ... A nose of dry brushwood, dry soil and dark cherries, showing some dried leaf evolution. Serious structure on palate but showing the warmer 2007 vintage. Fleshy and powerful with quite fine grained tannins but some tannic grip on the back. "The palate is very fresh" said Renato. "You can feel the alcohol and it has nice drinkability," noted Aldo "but it can probably age". "There were good, ripe tannins in 2007" concluded Aldo. There was less progression on palate than on the nose. Ideally I'd give the wine 2-3 more years, but probably drink it in the next 10 years.

  • Vinetasters: 2007 Produttori (Skokie, IL): Served single blind. #9440. Darker fruit on the nose, this seems to be where we start crossing the line from red to black (it turns out that the tasting was ordered along the same lines as one I did a year and a half ago). Perhaps a bit more earthiness here, I really like this for its more complete profile. I'm not sure that this showed as funky as it did last time, but I've always been a fan of the Muncagota/Moccagatta bottling. My 1st, group's 11th (in fact, this was a very polarizing wine, with multiple first and last place votes).

  • Decanted 3 Hrs. First time with this Cru (or Mocoggatta) and very much pleased with the experience. While the aeromaticis were enjoyable, still a little sullen on the nose, no big deal. Excellent structure and very generous layers of sweet dark plums. Playing up to the early drink quality of the 07 vintage, this nonetheless and some pretty serious muscle underneath suggesting this might be longer lived than the original views forecasted. AG had this drinking well through next year. I would add ten years at least. Very, Very good rendition.

  • Tuesday Night Double Blind $50+ (Bin 75): Deep dull crimson, good clarity, rusty rim; floral, rose, pure cherry, menthol, slight cedar; smooth texture, tobacco, dried cherry and rose, tar, good wrap of tannin, slight bitterness on finish, almost a rusty note; good, very linear.

  • Not decanted but followed over two days. This will make you fall in love with Barbaresco, especially if you enjoy a modern style. The 2007 vintage in general is flamboyant and extroverted, but I still expected this bottle to be on the young side. But it was already in the zone, throwing tons of licorice/anise, wet slate, ripe black cherry fruit, and an aggressive cream cheese icing note that makes the wine even more exotic. I give it a 93 on quality, but it's the sort of wine I'd drink every single day if I could. Drink now-2020.

  • Nose: The nose here is more searching and mysterious with dark red cherries, raspberries, juniper berries, mushroom notes, licorice, roasted herbs, tobacco, leather, earth tones, and violets. There is good depth with this being one of the more distinctive noses in the lineup.

Taste: The feel is Medium/full bodied with high acidity and chewy, high tannins. The structure is extremely youthful and a bit brooding, but there are lovely and darker tones of raspberries, dark red cherries, juniper berries, mushrooms, licorice, roasted herbs, earth tones, and violets.

Overall: This had a distinctive extra savoriness to it that some of the others in the lineup didn't. There is excellent depth, but it is also holding back a bit right now.

  • 2007 Produttori Riserva (Langhe Osterio): Across the Produttori line up this has a distinctly different nose. Lots of mushrooms and loam here. Tannins were well integrated for this age of wine. Quite an enticing wine, more Burgundy than Piedmonte.

  • Produttori Dinner (Osteria Langhe - Chicago, IL): A real beauty. Thought Adrian's call of some subtle mushroom notes was spot on. Added to that were some airy/elegant rose notes - just a beautiful package. One of the top wines of the night.

  • The Chicago Science Club does 2007 Produttori (Chicago, IL): Tasted alongside its sibling, Paje, this was definitely funkier and earthier -- perhaps even to the point of a slight bit of mushroom (already?!). I also detected a slight herbal note on this bottle. Definitely the lightest of the three in this flight, this had a very entrancing nose that really drew you in. I think with time, the mushroom note will develop further, making this even more interesting.

  • 2007/2008 Produttori Tasting (L'Apicio): Tasted blind (knew we were having 2 blind flights: 2007/08 Muncagota & 2007/08 Rabaja). Big forward nose: violets, prune, tar. A touch of citrus and stone and citrus peel. Menthol. This was pretty clearly an 07, and I figured this was the Muncagota flight ... i had higher hopes for the Rabaja's. No formal score, but this was in the 14/20 range.

  • initially austere and tight but after a few moments opens to great lead pencil and sweet minty like bubble gum and blue raspberry and candied green apples. on taste this his a big tannic wine. beautiful style of old world terroir and Nebbiolo. lean notes of leather, tobacco tart fruit of cooked cherry and raspberry with gripping distance on the tannins. this is about 15 to 45 minutes in. upon full hour big rich tannins. opened to tart burgundy like fruit with sharp tannins. super fun wine. have to be careful pairing this as it seems to have a big tendency to change constantly. cheese works nicely.

  • Approachable indeed, although obviously young. 4 hours in a wide decanter helps reveal the core of the wine. Solid structure, nice balance with quite smooth tannins. Ok + length on the finish. Typical Nebbiolo nose mirrored on the palate. Cool fruit given the vintage.

  • One day in an open bottle did do this good. Although obviously a classic nebbiolo, there is a gentel fruity sweetness and complexity beneath the acid and the tannins. Best 15 years from now?

  • Already approachable after 5 hours of aeration in bottle plus half-an-hour in the glass. Rich texture and an intoxicating nose with tar, a hint of menthol, and floral notes. The palate is dense but smooth and the alcohol is balanced and fairly hidden. The finish is long and displays notes of spices and wood, combined with the floral tones similar to the ones on the nose. Great wine that should be cellared for another 3 years and will then drink well for another 20 or so.

  • Tight at first but great balance and complexity. Wonderful old school wine finish - cherries, oak, juicy and good long finish. Good to let age a few more years, otherwise allow several hours to decant and open.

Cherries, strawberry, candied apple notes with deep long finish.

  • Big and complex nose with espresso, vanilla, minerals, floral component and basil. Exceptional nice nose.
VERY smooth mouthfeel for such a young Barbaresco. The balance between fruit, tannins and acidity is perfect.
I enjoyed it a lot now, but would wait if I had several bottles.

  • Italy 2012 - Piemonte; 7/8/2012-7/14/2012 (La Morra): Tasted at the winery. Shy nose with just hints of cherry and herbal notes coming through. In the mouth this was muscular and powerful, with loads of tannins and a drying finish. Compared to the Pora, this was more classic and even a little rustic. Hard to pick a favorite between these two but I think I preferred this due to its more classic profile. Needs 3-5+ years. Excellent. 92+
