Pretty decent, especially when one considers the price. A lot of red fruit here, especially on the nose. I could go for a little more flesh/substance on the palate, but this is pretty acceptable for a Wednesday night.

On opening this is very fresh with cherry scents and very bright acidity. Almost too bright. With air this settles down and smooths out. Strawberry, tea and cherry scents. The cherry note repeats on the palate with a bit of stemmy, tannin. Medium length and light tannins on the finish. Best with food. Last glass four days later, this has really smoothed out as the acidity has integrated and the black cherry fruit has been revealed. Still finishes with chalky minerality on a medium length finish.

Super juicy on the nose with cherry and plums. Suave on the palate, smooth tannins, vibrant acidity, still plenty of nice dark fruit. Not too green, this focuses more on the balsamic, mushroom, bay leaf, black tea side, and I really like it. But I was surprised by how much dark, plump fruit this still had going. In a great place, but I honestly wish i would have held it for three or four more years - what an age-worthy wine for the price!
Light, tastes a little dilute. Some tannins still present. Many Loire cabernet franc wines coming in at 12.5% have a lot more body and presence than this. But it's not the lack of body that bothers me so much as the lack of interest. Perfectly drinkable but unexciting.

Some appealing aromatics, but on the palate it’s frankly a bit tired. Given that my 09s appear to be doa, I’m becoming sceptical that these really are ageable.
This has a decade at least to go. Lovely wine big nose of cab Franc. Lovely length without all the oak, sugar tanin. And all at 12%. Thank you garagiste

Colour: dark cherry red Nose: capsicum - especially green capsicum - and nightshade leaf, bell peppers. Black fruit, blackberry and cassis. Dried herbs. Plums. Cranberry. Green olives. Good minerality. Perhaps tobacco. Earthy. Palate: capsicum and nightshade leaf. Olive. Dried herbs. Blackberry and cassis. Plums. Medium bodied, earthy, savoury, minerally, not fruity. Still fresh and lively. Berry like acid. Fine grained tannins, very smooth. 12,5% alcohol.

First bottle in 2012 was very good and I was glad I purchased 6. This second bottle came straight from a climate controlled cellar, the cork came out very easily, the wine smelled off and was oxidized. The third bottle does not taste like anything that is being posted here on CT. It's rather blah. Sourced from Garagiste. Glad I only have 3 2011s.

Fairly expressive and deep aromatics of plum, herbs, and cranberry. Medium light in weight, it shows uncomplicated fresh fruit flavors of black plum, red berries, and a flash of green bell pepper.
Though very forward in nature, there are mild spice and earth notes, along with medium tannins that offer a touch of backbone. Finishes gracefully, short to medium in length. Fun wine, offering excellent QPR. Drinks well with or without food.

PNP. Wow, this wine needs some cellar time. Beautiful nose of earth, cherries, rhubarb, olives, and a cured meats. High acidity and high coarse tannins mask the flavors and make this a bit of a chore to drink right out of the bottle. Recorked and tried again on day 2 when things had integrated very nicely. A very rustic example of Cab Franc, this showed lots of earth and cranberry on the palate. Although still a bit coarse, the tannins were much more in check on day 2. Great value and great wine regardless of the price.

Great, expressive Bourgueil nose with a deep earthiness, light florals, and telltale green pepper. Similar profile on the palate, with plenty of freshness and juiciness. Reminiscent of a Baudry Les Granges, only less polished and more rugged and rustic. This bottle just vanished at dinner. Outstanding QPR.

We drink zee French vino (Chez Simo Bistro, Chicago IL): Nose: Well balanced with bell peppers, red cherries, spices, red florals, and hi-toned red fruits. There is a chunkiness to the tones with it having a classic cab franc profile.
Taste: Medium bodied with medium/high acidity and chewy tannins. The feel is on the elegant side with bell pepper, red cherries, hi-toned red fruits, and some red florals.
Overall: This is a steal of a wine. I had no clue that it was $13 when I had it and this punches well above it's price point. It brings classic Cab Franc tones with good youthful structure as well.

Dinner at Chez Simo (Chez Simo Bistro - Chicago, IL): Took some time to warm up to this wine as it started off super firm. With some air, the floral and berry notes perked up a bit which was nice. The palate is trimmed and edgy with great cut and structure. Dominated by red fruits, you get a real sense of terroir here with its nice dose of earth on the finish. Feel like the more structured 2010s from Guion will need some time to flesh out.

Nearly identical to my note from 2/6/2013 on night one... still basically tight as nails. Night two (left open to air), this was definitely smoothed out quite a lot and offered much smoother and sweeter fruit. Still plenty of tight tannins throughout. I think it was the right move putting most of these in long term storage. I'll try and wait a number of years before cracking the last one at home. BTW, 100% dark chocolate really cuts the tannins on this thing and improves the experience. 89+

This has really improved since about nine months ago, when it first arrived. Much more open now, with loamy earth, tobacco, cherry and floral notes. This has wonderful acidity which frames the wine quite nicely and will hopefully ensure a good life in a well cared for cellar. One more bottle left, which I will try to age a minimum of a decade. Ridiculous QPR at $16.

I remember why I love Cabernet Franc so much and in the Loire valley many moons ago I recall touring the area and trying to find the difference between Bourgueil and St. Nicholas de Bourgueil. Mdm. Tallow told me that she had fields in both Appellations and they faced different ways and each year she could never tell which was the best. We tried both and on that first year the St. Nicholas was better but on other visits it was not always thus. I recall the fruit almost so good that you could feel crunching onto it as you drank. This wine, so much better than the 2011 corked bottle from last night, is not quite as good as the bottles I recall from those times. This is a nice pretty well balanced wine, not quite as good as the 2009 but still a worthy drink

Definitely young and really locked down. The 2009 at a similar age was all pure fruits and earth, but this is leaner and meaner. I'm going to put my other bottles away for a couple months to see what happens.

Celebrating Cobb's birthday (Phil's place, Chicago IL): Nose: Well balanced nose with tones of dark red fruits, herbs, dark red cherries, red florals, some mineral tones, and bits of crushed rocks as well. There is decent depth to this, but it is also wound a bit tight.
Taste: Medium bodied with medium+ acidity and nice chewy tannins. The structure is fairly noticeable with robust tones of dark red fruits, crushed, rocks, herbs, and dark red cherries.
Overall: This could definitely use a few years to fully come together. There is nice balance with good structure to it as well.

Bottle has been open for an hour, but this is a fresh pour and tighter than my last glass wound up. Currently this is showing lots of ripe green bell pepper, light white pepper powder, wet slate, flint and a plum pit. Palate is smooth and fairly light in body, with tannins building with aeration. Flavors are tart, slightly green, mineral driven and showing moderate acidity. Finish shows some creamy darker cherry flavors, puckering sourness and heavy minerals and a chalky flavor and texture. Definitely not as smooth, soft and luscious as the 2009, but still quite fine. I do enjoy this bottling more than the Domaine. Both are fairly lean, but this offers a bit more volume, though certainly not voluptuous like most regions of the world are these days. 89+

This was a very intriguing wine. As the two other notes stated, upon opening, not much was going on, but I expected to get some big development after a couple of hours and even further during day two. For me, that didn't really happen. What did evolve was a very approachable wine with subtle notes of tart cranberry, citrus, minerals and walnuts on both the nose and the palate. This isn't a knock-your-socks-off wine but it's light-bodied, low tannin, refreshing and enjoyable with a good amount of acid and very low alcohol (12.5%). Great value at under $13.

I agree that this was muted on opening, even flat, which shouldn't be surprising but maybe is easy to forget after the more forward 2009. In any case, it got rolling pretty quickly. With some air this is a classic. I wouldn't even describe it as particularly light, but it is just incredibly easy to drink, which is for me the real hallmark of Guion wines, simply delicious but with actual interest as well. This is the same, bright berry, medium body, some dry tannin and a classic CF green lift on the finish. Really good stuff.

initially when opened, it was flat, uninspiring and little fruit. However, after 2 hours and even the next day, a nice balance of fruit and acidity came through. Palate shows tart red grapefruit, earthyness. Overall a lighter style wine but it needs some air and time to develop.

Overall a lighter style wine but it needs some air and time to develop.

lots of vegetation, some earth, some darkish curranty fruit; light, solid acidity, good grip, good and fantastic VFM!
