Pale yellow robe, showing very youthful and primary. Nervy white flowers and slate lead on the nose. Lithe on the palate. Seems to be a true kabinett level wine. Punchy acidity and a sapid stony core. Great stuff.

So, 2011 is generally a lower-acid vintage, but there is nothing soft about this wine. Really dynamic on the attack, sweet but not too sweet, this wine is pitch-perfect all the way through, and long. Still very primary, but everything is there to suggest a slow, graceful evolution. Currently drinking much better than the 2012s. Wish I had more.

Bright and rich straw with a slight green hue. Nose of petrol, ripe peaches, Macintosh apples, and hint of talc. Tastes of peaches, apples, cider, and hints of limestone and cherries. Lovely acid and fruit. Still extremely young and needing time. Drink in 5-10 years.

This wine is still in the zone. It has perhaps shed some primary fruit since my last bottle and is showing more racy acid and mineral. Seriously delicious on a hot day.

Drinks a bit more like a spatlese with a good whack of residual sugar. Good balancing acidity and delicious ripe pear fruit. Excellent. Drink now or over the next 20 years.

Medium sweet with plenty of energy and freshness. Nice persistence and intensity on the finish. Pretty much in agreement with the '17 - '31 drink window. These are hard to stay out of but I'll give it a try. Everyone at the table was happy with this.

Very pretty nose of nectarine, green strawberry, flowers and rocks. Similar on the palate, with a moderate dose of sweetness well balanced by plenty of acidity. Nice stony minerality. Fresh, clean, pure, quite enjoyable.

Gracious! I love this wine. It is simply a perfect pure soaring Riesling, the likes of which Willi Schaefer and his beautiful property consistently produce. Words really cannot do wines like this justice. Not bad for a bottle under screw-cap!

This comes on the heels of the 2011 Himmelreich Spätlese. Yet another delicious and compelling 2011. The Kabinett is certainly lighter and less pithy than the Spät but it is Oh! so good just the same. The fruit here is grapefruit and tart apple, with glass and sand mineral perceptions. It is crisp and dry -as compared to the Spät- and just snaps as I swallow. Real good stuff.

Restrained nose, peach, lime and balloon. Light bodied with medium acidity. Peach and apple, barely sweet, with a pronounced mineral streak (stone? chalk?) and a hint of spritz. Just what I'm looking for in a Kabinett.

Nice nose, a little reductive at first. Aromas of honeysuckle, red grapefruit, and minerals. Primary palate with a light, almost weightless mouthfeel, balanced acidity, and a medium-plus finish. A very nice Kabinett.

Greenish straw. Wonderful, classic grapefruit nose. Palate has wonderful acidity, like its sibling the #16; very minerally, more grapefruit. Reminds me specifically of the 2010 A.J. Adam Dhroner Hofberger Kabinett (a killer bottle, so a strong compliment to this wine). Quite dry with very nice length. (Third flight, #2/3WOTF, just barely edged out by #1)

Started out slightly closed on the nose, giving away only some notes of grape fruit, but with time in the glas the aromatics became ever more intriguing. More exotic fruits started to show, like pineapple, fresh green apples and maybe even a little note of passion fruit and a minty tone. The palate was medium boddied, very smooth and refreshing. It is of course very young, but very pleasurable to drink.

This has really improved with age and is unbelievably graceful and light despite carrying a good bit of sweetness.

Prototypical Kabinett with some petrol on the nose and clean crisp citrus mineral palate. Paid $19 which is about right for this. Easy to like.
