Red with a tiny brownish edge, high intensity. Developed to mature nose, medium intensity. Integrated, concentration, black currant, oak with vanilla touch. On the palate a slight sweetness, medium(+) acidity, medium(+) small tannins, full bodied, 14,5%. Intensive, fruit driven. Black currant, oak, mint. Power. Thick and chewy. Very good length. Fragrant and complex bouquet of cigar box and cassis on the top note, dried herbs and dark chocolate in the middle layer with prominent earthy nuance in the base. This is less fruit driven than others from the same region, more towards the Bordeaux traits. Nose is opened and balanced within minutes in the glass. Palate echoed the notes in the nose, with hints of smoked plumminess in the mid palate. Good grip from entry to finish, just lacking some definition and layering. Close to full-body with a big structure that has some bite at the edges. There is a step down of concentration as it transits from mid-palate to finish, which is disappointing. However, the smoked cigar and herbs linger at the back of the throat for a while. Good nose but the same impression did not follow through to the palate which is somewhat inconsistent. Ready to drink now without decanting. It should hold very well for the next few years.

Last bottle. Followed this from release. First taste in 2012 was hard, tannic with a classic fruit profile in background. It remains hard with one of the most austere fruit profiles I've seen in a Mondavi Napa. Some fruit but more vegetal and hard - not flawed. Very good, but not a typical vintage for Mondavi. Score reflects more my taste and expectation. This is holding well and has a long life ahead.

Decanted for 2-1/2 hours. Some coarse, some fine sediment. No notes taken. Some cherry, currants on the nose. Tannins and acids in check now. In a good place now, needed some air, but maybe not so much. Will try next bottle at about 1 hour as this had a much more forward nose when opened.

83% Cabernet, 12% Merlot, 4% Cab Franc, 1% Syrah. Double decanted 2 hours. Nose of tart cherries at first. At 2 hrs. nose muted, currants, barnyard, licorice. Taste more expressive than nose. Tart cherries, licorice to start. Later a well balanced, earthy (esp. for Mondavi) well balanced cab. Med finish that lingers well. As time goes on (3-4 hours), this gets better and better. Nose gets deeper, more earthy, more perfumed. Flavors become more pronounced and rich. Finish gets longer. This one need more time in cellar and/or at least 3 hours in the decanter to start. Any that you drink before the third hour will be a waste of what this has to offer. This will drink well now with air, or let them rest another 7 or more years in the cellar. A keeper! Glad I have 3 more bottles.
Wasn't expecting much, but just proves you don't mess with Mondavi! Deep flavors of cherry and blackberry with a very smooth finish that just coats the palate. I'm in awe right now, well done Robert! Sorry to everyone who drank this years ago, the age did wonders!

Good. Better on day 2. Bricky cherry on the nose. Dark berry, cherry liqueur, resolved tannins and a good finish. This is in a prime window and should be drunk over the next year or so.

The wine has medium acidity. It smells like sherry, tobacco, eucalyptus, mineral and vanilla. The body is medium. The wine finishes short. It tastes like almond, molasses, apple, tobacco, melon and mineral. The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are fast. There is light sediment in the bottle. The wine has smooth texture.

Neither with an abundance of fruit nor overly sweet. Balanced and harmoneus with nice fruit. Ready to drink. Actually rather european and an excellent altrrnative to a bordeaux, considering the price (32 usd).
Wow. This is quite different from what I'd become accustomed to and expected; more like Washington cab than Napa with bright fruit/acids lighter oak shadings and noticeable tannins in the finish instead of the oft dark cassis and caramel richness found, more often than not. Poured off half into a 375ml w/screw cap for later assessment. Inviting nose of pungent fruit notes w/sweet oak overtones. Let's see if it warrants a higher score with some time and air.

Dark fruit, blackcurrant and some chocolatey notes on the nose. The full-bodied palate adds more juicy fruit and yet quite tight tannins. Powerful finish, with the alcohol manifesting itself a bit. Rounded and fruity, and exceeded my (low) expectations.

Mondavi's Napa Cabs seem to always be well rounded and tasty. This is filled with enticing aromas of blackberries, cassis, cocoa, spices, and eucalyptus. Mid-bodied, juicy, and open, showing good definition and depth, ample structure, and backed by plump black fruit flavors that have a focused persistence. Really shows off the quality of the 2010 vintage.

Once again a true bargain from this Mondavi bottling. Had this at home with a juicy hamburger and wow did they sync together. Really walked the line between fruit and tannins, elegance and brawn, aroma and ripe fruit flavors. Not as elegant as the ’08, more ripe, but still worth 90pts.
This wine will be the benchmark for my under $20 wines to hit, I have a number of 2010 Bordeaux in my cellar for $20 and under for comparison.

A dark, full flavored Napa that shows the depth and complexity of the 2010 Napa vintage. Heavy notes of plum emerge from the glass that are followed with peppercorn and clove, earthy characteristics not commonly found with most Napa cabs. Half of our group found the wine to be enjoyable and those with a more mild palate did not find this full bodied cab to tickle them. I certainly enjoyed it, and for the price I would say this bottle is well worth a try.

Decent napa cab..nothing special happening here. Got some standard cab notes from nose - including some oak. More oak on the palate, touch of black fruit, black licorice, vanilla, some cherry syrup, dusty tannins that really left my mouth dry. At some point even got a little whiskey flavors coming through on the mid palate. Yes, it is young, but overall though, it is just mediocre. Starting to realize that 2010 is no where near quality of the 07, 08, and 09 vintages from napa. I would probably pass on buying anymore of these.

Blind Tasting - New World Cabernets; 2/11/2013-2/17/2013 (My Place - Washington, DC): What an alluring and complex nose of blueberry cheesecake topping, rich milk chocolate and a spicy (paprika? red pepper?) note. Medium-grain tannins provide a wealth of structure for the blackberry and blueberry fruit. The medium acid keeps the wine balanced. The caramel, toffee and sweet oak flavors are delicious, but there’s also some serious scorched earth, tree bark and pepper flavors that I love. Bold, and it could age for a few years easily, but lovely to drink now.

Always a favorite of mine, this is especially good this year. Dark purple but not opaque in the glass. On the nose, a basket of perfectly ripe dark fruit; blueberries, black currants, and cherries with cedar, vanilla and star anise. Linear and full of flavor on the palate, finishing with ripe tannins.
The entry level Mondavi Cabernet is always elegant and classically styled, never showy. It is typically composed of mostly Oakville (including To Kalon) and Stag's Leap fruit, and usually sees only about 15% new oak.

Label Notes; "This Cabernet Sauvignon showcases outstanding vineyards in the georgraphic center of the Napa Valley. Fruit characteristics, such as blackberry and cassis, combined with spicy oak elements, lead to an elegent structure, with velvety tannins and excellent length. A Napa Valley classic."
This wine can age for another 3 to 5 years.

not as tight as i am used to. this is very good and very drinkable. it doesnt have the obnoxious vanilla that most napa cabs have in this price range. good for 5 years but mellow enough now

Highly aromatic with more earthiness (cab franc?) than fruit on the nose. Medium body but with some density to the core. Blueberry, graphite, with a hint of sweetness on the medium length finish.
