The most balanced and ready for early drinking on this occasion. Walking the line between red berries and white orchard fruit, like tart red apple, white strawberries, and blush pink cherries with minerality, toast points, blood orange, and sweet white flowers.

2011 base I think. Beautiful vinous edge with a lot of varietal Pinot character shining through. Has a fair bit of roundness on the palate suggesting a high dosage, but apparently that’s not the case - Just riper fruit. I do like the generous texture but I find the balance not quite there, it’s a bit wonky. With time the brioche/bakers yeast jumps out quite a bit and obscures the fruit a bit.

Epic night (Ruth's Chris Parsippany): Bought this to an event that was originally a no C&C (Chardonnay and Cabernet) event and so wanted a Blanc de Noir. Champagne was good, but I would say just good. Nothing over the top or overly special, a bit more apple and almost sweet characteristics. Enjoyed, but not sure for the price point.

Mostly Napas and white Burgundies with Washington Winos (Ripple Restaurant in Washington D.C.): This is a lovely Blanc de Noirs. There is a confected fruit aspect while the wine remains dry and pure. I would have liked it just a bit more if it had perhaps slightly less residual sugar. At least my radar for perception of sweetness was perturbed just slightly. But overall, more than just a crowd pleasing bubbly. Complexity and nuance, fine bubbles for a smooth texture and a medium finish.

Dujac dinner at Jade Palace. Drank alongside the Dom, this couldn't have been a greater contrast. Very light orange, almost like a grapefruit colour. Nose was very muted, you could hardly detect any fruits or any secondary aromas for that matter. Bubbles had disappeared. Seemed abit flabby on the palate, fruits had somewhat disappeared, this needed serious drinking up, and is probably pass peak. This probably made the Dom better than what it was.

5th Somewhat Annual Blind Bubbly Dinner (Riverpark, NYC): At first sniff, this offered very pretty white and yellow fruits with hints of red berries wrapped around a core of crystal minerality. These notes carried through to the palate, where a slightly round and rich yet elegantly structured frame lifted them to a long and tart finish. Lip-smackingly good as usual, I am a fan of this wine.

Montrose, Bevan, Champagne, Lopez, Castelgiacondo++ (Jane & loren's home): Probably my favorite Champagne for the money. Golden with slight pink notes. Initially a bit tart and austere, but with sufficient time, it opened up nicely. Red Gravenstein apple and yellow fruit on the nose, with a good dose of chalk. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy. Some of the red fruits asosiated with pinot is present in the finish. Good wine!

July 2010 disgorgement. Incredibly pure and precise; full of fresh red fruits and pears and yeasty accents around a core of steely minerality and fantastic acidity, very light on its feet with a sense of tremendous clarity and focus, though it also feels very young and primary and gives the sense it's holding a lot in reserve.

This was one of the most mind blowing Champagnes I've ever had. Everyone that tried it said it was amazing. This bottle was crisp, refined and deliciouse. We had a respectable bottle following this, and it put it to shame. It's not in the same flavor profile as Krug in my opinion and is an entirely different animal. If every champagne tasted this way, I would not bother buying anything else.

i think this was the 06, but there is no code and it's impossible to tell. the nose shows a creamy vanilla essence, enough so that my friend who had never had this wine before said that it appeared very oaky. and the wine never sees oak. i like this wine very much, but this bottle didn't do as much for me as I would have liked. there wasn't the depth of fruit, the dazzle that i am used to from Bouchard. perhaps it simply needed more time.

Revelatory. Among the purest, most precise wines I've had. Citrus and raspberries on the refreshing nose and then the palate is weightless intensity. Lemon, slate, and red berries. Very vinious for a champagne. The lack of dosage is apparent from the bone dry profile and finish, but the fruit is so ripe and so pure that this wine has a striking underlying sweetness. Harmony personified. I don't have enough experience with Champagne to know how this will age, but it's absolutely stunning now.

the one we drank is the 2005. incredibly deep red fruit on such a pure and lithe frame, this wine achieves an elevated state of graceful power. the texture, as always with bouchard, is smooth and fine, due to the lower pressure (4 bars). this picks up steam as it goes along, but in the intensity department, not weight. perfectly balanced, a joy to drink. the sturdy and firm nature suggests that another few years would certainly do no harm.

$59.99 retail. Like the Egly-Oriet BdN, this has just a twinge of pink / copper color. Youthful, fruit driven nose of red apple and faint toast. Again, much fruit on the palate - red apple and light cinnamon (apple sauce?). Relatively full bodied, and it comes across as rather soft and lush in the mouth. This is very nice, but I don't necessarily feel it's a step up from a number of other grower Champagnes I've had lately (see Champagne TNs) for as little as half the price of this wine. Therefore, though I like it, for me, this is not the greatest value in the current national Champagne market... Also, FWIW, I prefer the more racy, minerally, chiseled Egly-Oriet BdN V.V. for slightly more $ (see TNs).

Poppy at Campania (Campania in Dallas, TX): Tasted non blind. Light yellow to yellow color in the glass, clear hue throughout with fine beading. Nose of toast, apple and sherry. Flavors of cherries, soaked pears and a dash of creme fraiche. Medium acidity, full bodied. Drink or hold. 93+?

Doesn't give much immediately on the nose. In the mouth it is extremely good. Incredibly fresh and rich. Seasalft, rich and full, very mineral but very subtle and gentle at the same time. Exceptional balanced and long finish. Buy more!

Fantastic fine bead. Nose offers up marzipan?almonds/X-mas cake, citrus, honey. Gorgeous mousse explodes on palate. Fabulous fruit, dry but sweet due to fruit. Purchased 08, so probably 06 vintage? LOVELY STUFF.

Very light in color, but not in flavor. Pretty nose of fresh bread and citrus zest. Clean and crisp on the palate with a long and zingy finish. Tasty stuff.

Consistent with last bottle. Ethereal and utterly weightless--with an unparalleled intensity of flavor and underlying sweetness that takes this over the top. Acidic, complex, and complete.

1999 Montrachet and Friends: Lieu-dit Cru 3rd Annual Blind White Burgundy Dinner (Spring - Chicago IL): Very perfumed start, big fruit shows a reasonable amount of ripeness. Taste is also on the side of larger, bolder fruit. Lighter style carbonation really lets fruit come through. Most people prefers this of the two Champagnes served, but I slightly preferred the Egly-Ouriet.

Toasty, elegant, a hint of bitterness that makes it a great food champagne.

the one we drank is the 2005. incredibly deep red fruit on such a pure and lithe frame, this wine achieves an elevated state of graceful power. the texture, as always with bouchard, is smooth and fine, due to the lower pressure (4 bars). this picks up steam as it goes along, but in the intensity department, not weight. perfectly balanced, a joy to drink. the sturdy and firm nature suggests that another few years would certainly do no harm.

Outstanding. I don't drink much Champagne so I feel less able to characterize this wine: but I found it pleasantly fruity and medium-bodied with a medium finish.
