This is quite a bit softer than the '06, which I love. Showed fennel, roses, licorice, well-balanced and easy drink, but did not wow me. Gave it a 3 hour decant and it needed it.

Good stuff here; the nose initially showed damp earth and a hint of funk, but then opened to show lovely red fruits, mint, fennel, forest floor, a hint of mushroom, and dried floral notes. The palate is still quite robust and big, but maintains its harmony and never feels heavy or dull. Good acidity, still with decent amount of tannins. If you like wines with more tertiary development this has plenty to give, however if you prefer fruit probably should drink sooner rather than later.

2023 New Year's Day Blind Tasting (Marietta, GA): See through crimson, cloudy; stronger VA, sexy but sweet, unique and exotic, high toned, Burg-esque; delicious and fantastic in a style I really like; 2010 Rosso del Beppi?

2023 New Year's Day Double Blind Tasting: Served double blind. This was a very confusing wine to me. It wants to be Italian, but there is a creamy sweetness on the almost overripe finish. I couldn't get over the sweetness which is why I couldn't call it. I wrote down new world Pinot only because I had to call the ball on something. I hope this comes around to its true character with more time in bottle.

Decanted for 2 hours. Fresh and pretty complex, but not as intense as I often experience the wines from the producer. Medium to medium+ tannins and acidity, both good integrated. It delivers sour cherries, orange peel, roses, leather and some roasted spices. Terrific balance and a good aftertaste. All in all a great wine. Still with a lot of life left.

Light ruby, vibrant. Slight sour cherries initially but slowly emerged with air. Very deep and intense, complex aromas of mint, cedar, sweet red and blue fruits, orange peel and plenty of rose petals and roasted herbs. Not the most intense Poggio but showing equivalent finesse and vibrancy. Excellent complexity, depth and freshness on the palate. Lovely mid palate grip from the silky tannin with sweet spices, underlying minerality lingering at the end. Still youthful and will certainly benefit from longer bottle aging.

The wine takes time to open up - after three hours opening and an hour in the glass the wine is coming across as very smooth and almost kissing your mouth. For us the bigger thing about this wine is clearly the balance of the wine - it is very good - we are getting medium acidity and tannins - maybe a bit more of the acidity but no effect on the balance. The fruit is dark cherries and ripe blackberries also some raisin - we also get spices and leather and some earthy notes. A very nice aftertaste. This is a great wine - and our first bottle - we are happy to start with very solid 94.

This is very good and this bottle showed quite young. The color is dark garnet with a ripe and expressive nose of plum, black raspberry, ripe cherry, lots of herbs and spice, damp earth, leather, and floral notes. The palate is big for a 2008 with ripe fruits and spice dominating followed by some silky tannins. The finish is long, but this is still quite primary. I'll wait 4-5 years to try another bottle.

Hmmm very forward, way to forward, with a Burgundy twist, but overall not impressed at all, but in general I am not a fan of Poggio di Sotto, never been impressed by this wine, the palate is better than the nose, but this needs to be drunk rather than cellared

Wine lunch at Imperial Treasure. Poured into decanter in chilled cellar for 30 mins, then poured back into bottle and brought to lunch. Drank 1 hour later and over 2 hours. Some initial slight VA that blew off. Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour with garnet edge. Legs. Nose is clean, pronounced intensity, with aromas of sexy fragrant florals, sweet earth, red licorice, spice, HAPPY red cherries. Developing. On the palate, dry, uplifting high acidity, medium alcohol (14%), supple yet structured high tannins, medium+ body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet red cherries dancing happily and freely in a meadow, balsamic, sweet herbs, red licorice, fine leather, spices. Long finish. Outstanding quality. Wow wow wow. So many layers of tasty flavour. And this wine is simply exuding joy and happiness. Drink now and over the next 6-7 years as it develops. From the Castelnuovo dell’Abate subzone of Montalcino.

Beautiful wine. Tannic but not bitter. Has dark cherries but reduced into a glaze. Earth and Forrest floor with graphite and burnt toast. Has some mineral and Crushed stone qualities. Medium legs. Medium heat. Tried with crab/lobster pasta. Finished with halibut. Fantastic wine.

Pale garnet yellowish rim. Delicate, airy nose of flowers, wet stone, tar, ripe red berries, sour cherry, loam, smoky, some sweet and peppery spices. Light on its feet, it is transparent and seamless on palate. Supreme focus and length. Intense and pure bright juicy fresh red fruits, earthy, smoky, hint of wood and sweet spices which is a plus here. How elegant and seductive!

Slightly on the warm side, but the delicate fruit and refreshing acidity just makes me melt! Wild cherries, blueberry, almost pinot-like red berries, brown sugar, coffee, licorice, caramel and hints of mushroom and truffels. Early maturity notes. The palate is packed with flavors but feels light as a feather thanks to the refreshing acidity. Some burnt and roasted tones. Some bitterness (tea) on the finish. Feminine sexy wine! 95p, going for more a few years down the road!

as usual, amongst several other bottles of sangiovese last night, this stood head and shoulders above the rest. penetrating nose that captures a very unique essence of the earth. that tuscan clay and limestone dust is there along with with this scent of the brush i only get from these wines. polished leather aplenty as well. the balance of the palate is perfect, with focused flavors of cherry compote, mint leaf, and russian tea. nice length. should drink well for years. nothing but good things to say about these wines. great every time.

Opened and let sit in the bottle for ten minutes and poured. Wine had a nice ruby color but not as dark as many of the other brunellos. Wine has nice fruit and wasn't very overpowering. In fact I might say that it was a little "flat". Overall, still went well with BBQ chicken.

Decanted about 90 minutes prior to Thanksgiving dinner. Light to medium color, nose still relatively tight. Dried cherries, flowers and a hint of leather. Long, long finish with drying tannins. Perfect match for Turkey confit, and the rest of dinner. Still a bottle left in the cellar.

Prismatic, haunting nose of cherries in spirit, balsamic Mediterranean herbs, plenty of dried fruit, and an almost port-like sweetness. The depth of the aromas is matched by deft elegance on the palate. This is drinking magnificently, and has plenty of classic sangiovese sour cherry, balsam, herbs, and a light bitterness, like crushed grape pip. Very long, with a refreshing acidity that perfectly encapsulates the Montalcino terroir. This wine is an absolute pleasure to drink, not least because everything is in balance: the sweetness of the fruit is profound, but not overly assertive thanks to the firm tannins and tight acidic backbone. Towards the more traditional end of Brunello. I suspect this will improve for another two decades, but it is frankly hard to resist now.

Expressive aromatics of tar, sweet spices, licorice, crushed flowers, sweet red berries and some leather, as well as some mineral notes. Similar complexity on the palate. It's medium-full bodied with pretty high acidity and medium-high tannin that is very silky. It leaves an overall impression of being weightless despite its density. Long finish. A very elegant, weightless Brunello... it's pretty pricy though...

Clear, deep purple/black, lighter around the rim. Clean nose. Intense, but wound up. Hard to get a good read, but when it opens up it will be very good. Same aromatic profile as the rosso, but with more depth and intensity in the red cherry fruit, and especially with some time in the glass, it shows even more balsamic notes than the Rosso. Lovely cool mint, eucalyptus, licorice powder and spices which keeps bursting from the glass and evolving graciously with time. Its almost impossible to stop sniffing this wine! The palate is bigger but at this stage much similar to the Rosso, with perhaps more depth in its fruits, and more structure. Finishes strong and long. Needs a bit more time to balance out on the palate, but it shows great character and harmony already now.
