Opened and poured with pesto pasta. Delicious and ripe bramble, with some secondaries just starting to show through. Hoisin, blacks. Tiny bit of heat, but not toooo bad. Some classic zinny bramble on the nose. Nice offering. Day two under vacuvin...meaty, some licorice, iron notes on the nose, unctuous fruit, but not too flabby or too overboard....this gets close to the line but doesn't go overboard IMO. Flamboyant in an brooding sort of way.

Dark crimson in color. 15.6% ABV. Soaring nose of jammy red fruits, licorice, kirsch and pepper. Big, full bodied Zinfandel with ample acidity. Plush, ripe and rich. Mostly well balanced. Raspberry liqueur, cherry compote and white pepper on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Modern, full throttle Zinfandel that paired brilliantly with BBQ chicken on the 4th of July. Best over the next 1-2 years.

Still a little alcohol on the nose but primarily dark fruit, a little candied in the nose. Slight raisin/port on the nose and oak. Full body, tannins have subsided and mostly rich dark fruit with a little prune/raisin starting to show but still has time. A little “syrupy” but this is a decent aged Zin. Would be great with sausage/bbq etc. would say drink up now and 2-3 more years.

Drinking very well, with good Zin spice, good depth, and decent balance. Not a big Zin by any stretch (probably due to vintage), this suited my palate very well and was my favorite of the trio of 2011's (Old Vine, Dusi, Duarte).

Pleasant wine. Showing some bricking and related flavors on the palate. Very smooth, no discernible tannins. Beautiful stewed red and blue fruits on the palate and nose. If you have this in your cellar, drink up soon!

In contrast to the ‘11 Turley Lodi from two nights ago, this was more restrained, showing deeper, black fruit, pepper and a hint of green leaf. The Lodi was a bit juicier, thankfully not overblown and this could have used a hint more of that fresher, livelier fruit. I didn’t mind the bit of restraint, better than the overripe nature of older Turleys

To me this wine was at the perfect stage to be drunk. Wonderful nose with dark fruit. Delicious to drink with lots of favors going on and well balanced in terms of alcohol and acidity and tannins. Long finish. Really nice.

It had been a while since we opened a Duarte, a vertical at a friends house a couple of years ago. We were less than impressed then, with not much to distinguish the vineyard. This was a pleasant surprise. Dark purple color, typical Turley. Sweet fruits on the nose, with muted spices. The palate didn't have much of the pepper that early Turley's had in abundance, but this was balanced and structured. Long, pleasant finish. I could have just dipped this, but we threw some grass-fed beef burgers on the Big Green Egg that turned out quite fabulous. The wine lived up to the burgers.

The Duarte Zinfandel is sourced from three separate vineyards, all more than 75 years of age. Opaque crimson in color, it is a briary version of the Zinfandel grape that is laden with dark bramble fruit, dried cherry, black pepper and dried herb aromas. Full-bodied, fresh and with medium-weight, silky tannins, it delivers black fruit and savory flavors while somehow disguising its 15.6% alcohol. The age of the sourced vines becomes obvious on the mid-palate, which is exceptionally dense. Equally rich on the lengthy finish, it concludes with surprisingly fresh acidity. As a result of the vintage, this is an atypical but delicious Turley offering. Enjoy it over the next 2-3 years. Drink now-2019.

Completely opaque dark garnet. Very viscous, coats the glass with think, slow "legs". One of the more aromatic Turley sins, deep blackberry and black raspberry nose and flavors. Sweet-smoky components.Big, bold flavors, also of dark fruits, with prominent acidity, moderate tannin, hot alcohol taste and aftertaste, became even hotter at the end. Plenty of concentration and power, nothing subtle about it. Good for steak or ribs. It could soften with a couple of years, but may lose some fruit. I'd drink now. Duarte is one of my favorite of their sins. Ric

H's B-Day dinner at Mistral. This offering blew all of us away. We're already big Turley fans, but this one struck us with its combination of power and finesse. Displaying the purity we've seen in other 2011 Turley offerings, my 11/22/14 notes are still spot on, with the exception that the bouquet has fanned out considerably, offering generous indications of what is about to hit the palate. Vintage after vintage, these Zins keep getting better and better.

Ruby hued with a beautiful necklace in the glass. Not revealing much in the bouquet except some spicy, resinous elements. But quite an onslaught on the palate with blackberries and dried apricots melding with hillside brush and herbs de provence, followed by some black licorice. Offers a creamy mouthfeel balanced by welcome acidity and a finish of black pit fruits and sandalwood. Went perfectly with grilled fresh salmon.

Dark ruby. On day two, nose opens and shows strawberry, blueberry, and peach aromas, with a distinct hit of black pepper and floral notes. In the mouth, this shows a really fantastic smooth texture, but good intensity from the flavors. Carries out to a long and moderately complex finish, wearing a bit of oak. This exceeded my expectations and is quite a lovely wine. I think it's drinking nicely now, but will also hold for probably 5-7 years. Those who have a bottle should certainly look forward to it!

Beautiful bottle of wine. Popped and drank right out of the cellar. Believe it or not, with a grilled Atlantic salmon with no marinade but with solely a ground pepper addition. Floral and fruit scents on the nose. Nice smooth wine with a memorable aftertaste of red fruits. I am a longtime Turley man and this is some darn good juice. Unlike others who have commented that you can taste the alcohol, I disagree. Drink this wine slightly chilled and you will agree with me.

BIG Zin! This is the first Turley Zin I have tasted, it is inky dark purple in color and very fruit forward. Dark cherries and spice are noticeable with very fine tannin if any. The balance is off due to the 15.6% alc content; could definitely taste the heat and thought it was overbearing. But, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed this Zin and will make a point to drink it again in 4-5 years. This might be a 89 now but in a few years may very well go 91-92. Only time will tell.
