I let the other bottle sit and age for 5.5 yr before opening. Probably a year too long. Tobacco and earthy boysenberry cola notes. Red fruit dominant. A little bit more than I expected on the aged red fruit palate. Started with red and black fruit tart, nose of aged red and black fruit and black tea leaf. Palate echoes the nose. Finished with white fruit and pipe tobacco. Enjoyable wine but definitely starting to snow some secondary mushroom notes. Different palate vs 5 years ago fo' sho'.

Medium garnet with slight clearing at the edges. Full, forward & fragrant nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries & plums with overtones of floral notes of roses & earthy/dusty notes, anise, tobacco, minerals, herbs & a hint of cedar in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, cranberries & plums with herbs, spices & a minerals. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present & even at 12 years of age, it has the potential to develop further with additional aging.

Drinking very nicely now, but will probably develop a bit more. Gave it a short decant. Tastes of dark cherries and earthiness. Very clean and refined. We didn't finish the bottle the first night and three days later we regretted it. It was drinkable, but nearly as good.

I frankly fail to understand the lack of excitement from some of the earlier raters, wrt this wine. I have had it multiple times and without exception it performed well every time. Its a wine with great typical barbaresco personality, rich in fruit, not super complex, but hey, its rich, and lately clearly in its window of maturity. Very satisfying.

Unusual experience. Upon opening and during the next 3-4 days it appeared to be underwhelming, rather tired and past peak - 88 pts at best. However, the last glass on day 5 or so was much more focused and interesting - 90 pts.

Bottle was a little more advanced than my last note from 6/2020. Decanted 1 hour - sweet/sour cherry on nose with rose petals and tobacco noticeable. Palate was similar - fruit turning slightly dried/prunish on palate though. Medium+ body, full tannins, high acidity and long finish. 91-92 range tonight.

Very enjoyable Barbaresco with a bouquet of sour cherries, perfumed violets, almonds and some tobacco leaves. The palate offers gripping tannins, good acidity and a medium to full body. This wine is still quite youthful, so I expect it can further develop for another 10-15 years.

Really enjoyed this great expression of Barb. Drank over the course of 2 nights. Night 1 dug in after after a 2 hour decant. Overall consistent with other notes and scores.
Nose is dark sour cherry, baked raspberries, tobacco and leather.
Tannins are firm but really balanced out by the great acidity here. Dark berries and cherries on the palate along with black tea and a great hint of crushed mint/menthol that sticks to my lips. The wine has a touch of sweetness on front palate but then grabs your mid palate in a great way. The finish is awesome. This wine just pops in the mouth - Definitely overdelivered my expectations!

Very enjoyable. 93+/- Would buy again.

Notes from night 2 - drank over 3 nights and best on night 2 (although it was excellent on night 1).
Sour cherry/menthol / rose petals & tart cherry on nose. Similar on palate with sweet cherry as well. Medium body, medium+ acidity and long finish. 92-93 range.
Would buy again.

Wife wanted something to go with ham quiche, and I didn't want a white or Rose, and didn't want a pinot, grenache, or zin. So, HELLO BARBARESCO! This one poured with a medium density rusty rose color. This wine was a little 'thin' at first, but two hours later it was ROCKING. Lots of herbal black cherry on the nose and palate, a little earthy, some mint and hint of tobacco leaf in the middle. Finishes a little acidic, with really great fruit that just kept building the longer this one was open. I think I'm going to let this other bottle sit for a LONG while before opening it!

Beautiful color. The nose is tight, showing subtle aromas of flowers, dried cherry, raspberry, leather and a hint of balsamic. This is medium full bodied on the palate with very good concentration and lovely finesse. The long finish features robust but elegant tannins.

Drank at a restaurant , garnet in color, licorice, raspberry, and mineral nose, moderately intense fruit, pleasant whiff and taste of oak, and good length. Matched well with lamb shank and also with a veal chop. Young but drinks well.

Accessible and modern but by no means over-the-top Barbaresco. Nose of violets both fresh and dying/decaying; tea, some anise and a hint of sasparilla. On the palate, flavors of roasted strawberries marinated in balsamic, tea, some sour cherry. Tannins are fairly pronounced and the wine has refreshing acidity, but while the wine works best with food, it can also be drunk alone. Should develop nicely over the next 12+ years.

Italian Wines @ Iron Gate (Iron Gate - Washington, DC): Nose shows some openness, with red flowers and strawberry. Tangy and bright on the palate, a (relatively) softer approach than some of the other wines, but still plenty of grippy tannins. Strawberry and raspberry, dusted with some earth and mushroom.

{Visit to Moccagatta} Tasted after the '11 Bric Balin (and 2nd day juice, whereas the '11 was not). Some really wild, exotic perfumes, with a playful mix of brown spices, chocolates, and pastries. The nose is fresh, pretty, too. The finish here is a shorter than the '11's, to be expected, I suppose given their respective vintages. In your face at times, but in a welcoming way, trust me. 14,0% abv.
