Really excellent. Drank with duck and a few veggies. The wine looks brick colored. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like forest floor. It tastes like meaty. The body is medium/full. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has medium acidity.

after a good but not special showing of this wine 2 months ago, it was nice to see this back in peak form. just brilliant and captivating. drank next to the 01 and you could see the vintage differences, as this was more rounded and generous. i do wonder if the 01 may last longer, as this is a super nova 97-98

Acker Merrall Bicentennial Gala (Cipriani Wall Street - New York NY): Tasted alongside the 2001, I was able to taste, compare and contrast for 15-20 minutes. Complex array of red and black cherry with seamless textures and absolutely impeccable balance. While the 2001 is wonderful, this charmer makes that seem nearly awkward.

Served blind. As close to perfection as wine can get. This had the precision and delineation of a mature Musigny, but didn’t have that Chambolle profile. Utterly mesmerizing, aromatics were fireworks as grand as the palate.
I’ve been priveleged to drink a lot of Rouget, and a lot of Cros Parantoux. This was ethereal, a different level. This was Jayer in everything but name, a beautiful and profound wine.
Blind tasting never lies and before the reveal we all knew we were in the presence of greatness.
It’s tough to come up with superlatives to desecribe this. Suffice it to say, well stored bottles should be a revelation. Anything less and I’d consider it a provenance issue. This is as good as any wine I’ve ever had, including the very best from Rousseau and DRC.

La Paulée de New York Gala Dinner (Pier Sixty - New York NY): In great Cros P flight. Great, as always. Well not always, since Thursday's bottle was sub-par, but this is a wine that is near perfectly balanced, and stays that way as all its red-fruited complexity unfolds. The star of the flight.

Intense, rich dark red fruits...so delicious. More expressive on the palate, this was decanted for an hour and ready right from the first sip. From memory I might rate the 02 slightly ahead of this, while other reviewers who tried them side by side have said the opposite. I Look forward to that taste test

Casual Burg Dinner with Friends (RPM Steak - Chicago IL): Popped-decanted-and-poured. Started slowly, finished wonderfully. Given the Olympics, this is not a 100m sprinter, and while not a marathon wine, it's Rio's Mo Farah, crushing the 10,000m with a stunning final lap.
Served blind, and stumped everyone. It was a counterintuitive showing for this wine, because it wasn't nearly as opulent as one expect from Cros Parantoux. It was also more structured and linear, and tighter, than one would typically expect of 2000 vintage at this stage.
Red fruit and minerality were the dominant notes, and I'm guessing this would have been considerably better with extended exposure to air. Always a treat to drink Cros Parantoux, but this one really stumped everyone served blind.

A sexy wine showing lovely deeper red fruits in a rich opulent style. Sweet dark and spicy with cherry fruits dominating. Finishes strong with great length. This clearly outpaced the '96, '97, and '02 served alongside. Only the Krug CdM '03 beat this for WOTN.

Great Burgundy Dinner (goosefoot - Chicago IL): Tasted single blind alongside the 2002. Bottle open an hour before serving. Intense and ripe black cherry with some red fruit notes. Stunning Asian five spice throughout. Both vintages were incredible and incredibly similar, this was just slightly more harmonious and alluring.

Lovely supple and ripe red fruit nose, VR spices and sweet fruit. Opened up really well, drank next to Cathiard RSV 2000, doesnt have Cathiard's power, riper fruit and extra depth. Still this wine is no slouch, with a very lovely sweet red fruit core that needs to be experienced. Lovely palate with lots of extracts, very good length yet subtle. Drinking very well now.

Blind tasted it. Thought it was a vr..guessed its 98. It had exceptionally good weight for a weak 2000 vintage. The nose had beautiful and aromatic red fruit, stems, menthol, flowers and tiny bit of mushroom. The pureness and sweetness of the red fruit were reflected gracefully. The wine was well balanced with elegance. This is absolutely lovely. I don't see the need of aging it further. It is drinking beautifully now.

The 2000 Emmanuel Rouget Vosne-Romanee ‘Cros Parantoux’ 1er Cru was accessible but just a little horsey. It was quite savoury with earth and menthol notes and had a slight herbal streak to it. A nice wine but probably just a little outclassed.

Has some of the red jube like fruit of the vintage. It is spicy with a cool, rocky heart. It really builds in the mouth and the palate is fine and lacy. There’s good concentration and it finishes with terrific cut.

A very solid performance against some heavyweights. Blind theme was 2000 red Burgundy and bottles included Rousseau CdB (x2), Dugat-Py Mazis, Rousseau Lavaux StJ, and the surprising winner was Dominique Laurent's Mazis. The CP stood out as the only Vosne wine, refined, elegant and classy. The wine was precise and "formal". Finished an equal second.

Burgundies in Tribeca (Tribeca Grill, NYC): I don't have words to do this justice. The fragrance here is just amazing - so intense, complex and layered with an incredibly vivid Vosne spice seasoning around pure, rich red and dark fruited flavours and the start of developing savoury notes. One of those wines that I could sit and smell all evening, except that the palate presence is something really special - incredibly powerful and broad, yet so remarkably elegant and finessed with a texture that's pure silk, and a finish that just keeps unravelling layers of fruit, earth and spice for minutes after each sip.
Charlie Trotter's Farewell Dinner with Montrachet, Brulees and Cros Parantoux (Charlie Trotter's, Chicago IL): Ripe, lush red fruit and great spice jump from the glass. Some great earthy/mushroom notes as well. Nice texture to the medium bodied palate. Tannins have integrated well and while it could certainly age for a little while longer, based on the way it showed tonight, I'd probably elect to drink now and over the short term. Absolutely delicious.

Burgundy: Weak by comparison to the '01, but there's a lot of material here. It's like it has collapsed upon itself and will someday be reborn with superb structure. Now, though, it's clunky and lacking grace.

Casual dinner with great wine in NY: Great floral start with lots of spice. Unquestionably Vosne with its spice and elegance. Good fruit depth and concentration, with plenty of power on the finish. Perhaps not a CP that will last decades, but certainly good for at least one more decade.

Exceptional wine that is entering its peak drinking period. The classic Vosne Romanee nose leaps out of the glass and practically pulls you in. The tannins are so fine and uniform that the wine has a texture of liquid velet. Terrific fruit, and a finish that goes on forever. This bottle was shared between 3 people and disappeared very quickly. Wonderful... A
