Clearly(due to color and taste) this wine is oxidized. I have not had another to determine if this is a victim of premox, or the wine is consistent with other bottles(although I have 5 bottles left). Based on other recent reviews, this wine may typically be found in this condition. My impressions were that the wine lacked acid, but went OK with the heavy food(although it lacked the ability to hold its own with the food). Apricot, butterscotch, honeysuckle, and grilled pineapple, etc. were all present characteristics of this wine. I don't see any upside to this wine, based on this bottle.

The nose on this wine is off the charts, apricot cream, really dripping and sensual. Lacking in acidity, which takes away some long term aging potential in my mind, but this wine is by its nose alone, rather captivating, and the aromatics help one understand why this is such a good blending grape. I’m holding the 17 and 20 of this wine, and will continue to do so for a few more years

Apricot bomb with light daisies on the back palette, nice viscosity and slight grapefruit than lemons on the nose. Golden amber yellow in color. Like both of Guigals’ Condrieu offerings. Nice bottle and a long finish. Light ginger and cinnamon on the back palette.

I love the floral character of the wine. Golden in color, with a nose that explodes with fruit and flowers. Opens with tropical fruit, guava, passion fruit, citrus, and honey. Oak hits mid-palate, along with flowers. It has a long finish, transitioning to honey, fading fruit, and wildflower meadows. Oak is relatively in balance here with the strong aromatic flavors. I’ve had friends describe this as choking on a mouthful of flowers. So, not for everyone. But as an expression of viognier, hard to beat. Really enjoy this wine.

A beautiful Viognie, highly concentrated light straw color with notes of honeysuckle, apricot, and citrus with underlying core of minerals. Long finish - very satisfying. Unlike some reviewers, I'm not convinced this wine is "over the hill" at this point - I think it still has some legs before passing the finish line.

Very nice Condrieu in a good spot. Drank over 3 hrs and air didnt change it very much. Rich, unctuous and full bodied. Fruit was nicely matured with moderate oxidative notes. Pretty much firing on all cylinders. Perfect with roast turkey. Drink now, but it should hold for a few more years.

The nose on this is honeysuckle for the most part with a hint of tropical fruit. The entry is a little leaner than the 1997 consumed a little while back but still rather round. Lemon oil dialed down. I think these really take quite a while to come into their element, or maybe I just like drinking them more on the oxidated side? There is sort of an endearing musk and white wildflowers with honeysuckle to the finish. I think it's worth it to keep these for another 10 years drinking a couple each year to see how they evolve.

Bring yellow color. Awesome nose filled with peach and vanilla. Also has some floral and herbal tones. Wine seems to be past peak. Dominated by vegetable and metallic elements. Some peach, but very tertiary. Butterscotch at the tail end , which further tells me this doesn’t have long left. Medium finish still.

Opened by VinT at an offline when he came in from Toronto. 100% Viognier from 35 year old vines. Aged in 100% new oak. Impressive texture and intensity in this wine. Last tasted in 2016 with somewhat similar notes. Peaches, citrus, caramel, and floral in the nose with peaches, pears, apricots, figs, and nuts in the flavor. Bemused to see notes re oxidation. This was young and fresh. Just at a phase where it is losing the strong oak impression, it showed attractive rich peach and apricot with a good freshness, but not any evolution yet. For me it doesn’t have the nuance and brilliance of Vernay though. ***(*)

Nose is attacked by lovely blend of jasmine, honeysuckle, and lemon zest. After an hour or more, the nose added honeydew melon, additional citrus peel (orange), and hint of apricot. Monthly Tasting Group HWS #099; France: Northern Rhône, Viognier (By CvR): In 2012 the 35 years old vines yielded 39 hectoliter per hectare. The wine is vinified and raised in 100% new oak barrels for 8 months. The result is a Viognier which is a 100% different from the also excellent basic Condrieu of Guigal. In this stage the fume of fireworks and gunpowder, smoke and minerals. Also white and yellow fruits and blossom behind the intense oak impressions. All comes back on the palate together with beautiful citrus acidity and pleasant bitterness. You probably either love it or hate it, but it certainly is an impressive and complex wine. Can age a few years as well.

Rhone gathering - 08 Rayas, 85 and 89 La Las (The Grill Room at Capella Hotel Georgetown): White and yellow peaches, smoke, lychee, lilac and mineral. Perhaps due to the vintage not sure but big and ripe slightly lacking acidity. A great contract to the 10 Domaine Georges Vernay Condrieu Coteau de Vernon had last year which was fresher with bright acidity. Lovely airy/cotton candy texture one expects from a Condrieu. Quite enjoyable but would have been more to my liking if showed a bit more definition/precision.
Note: Not rated as part of a enomatic tasting where many wines tasted odd - unsure on storage Pale straw, medium intensity nose, cannabis?! Green fruit, light body, medium (-) acidity, medium (-) finish

Intense and concentrated tropical flavors with a dominant overtone of almonds or marzipan maybe. A touch of oil to the texture. Not flabby but dinged a few points for a missing touch of acidity. Could round out over time.

Winemaker's dinner with Philippe Guigal (Operakällaren, Stockholm): Nose with ripe pear, peach, strong spice notes, mineral with mint, discretely perfumed, and with oak notes. Palate with an oily attack, quite powerful concentration, pear, spice with some aniseed, strong mineral notes, barely medium acidity. Young, approachable now, but can be cellared, 91(+) p. Compared to the regular 2012 Condrieu, La Doriane has a more powerful nose, is a bit more concentrated on the palate, and – most importantly – shows more mineral notes and a bit more acidity. La Doriane is produced in a style that can be cellared for a number of years.

Fin koncentrerad doft med honung, exotisk frukt, grapefrukt och viss rökighet. Lång och fet smak där även honungen och den exotiska frukten följer med. Men en aning för mycket ekbeska i eftersmaken.

Lovely intense fine nose with flintstone, smoke, Finnish Sauna wood, sweet grapefruit, honey, white flowers & tropical fruits, mainly pineapples & mango. The palate shows super fat fruit, quite ripe & concentrated tropical fruit mix, still very fresh and complex. Long finish. A really, really good wine, with good potential, but drinking very lovely already now. Highly recommended, and went great with food. I really love Guigals “La Dorian”, and have become quite a fan of the Viognier grape I must admit.

Night with the boyz at Capella (Capella): Love the mouthfeel, very very good balance. I'm a bit surprised to see how well it's drinking while being so young still. It will last a while but it's so good now.

En primeur tasting. Very rich, ripe, lots of tropical fruit on the nose, oaky. Great fruit on the palate, big and dense, just enough acidity, excellent length. Needs time. A bit over the top for my taste. 90-92
