From the coravin. Definitely no decant needed at this point. Color is showing brown edges - a bit earlier then I would expect. It's lively with red fruit and the tobacco and oak one expects from a brunello. On the lighter bodied side. Tanins are still firm, but I feel like the fruit is starting to fade and, with the firm tanins, this creates a bit of unbalance. I bought this in 2013 for $35 and the QPR at that price is outstanding, but it's definitely time to drink up IMO.

Wonderful Brunello after at the 16-year mark. Red cherry, strawberry, and black raspberry fruit up front. Nice core with note of spice, cracked pepper, red licorice, and subtle tobacco. Easy drinking wine right now with good acidity, soft tannins, and long finish. Great now and over the next few years.

- Brick color with fast forming legs and aromas of tea, blackberry, cherry and fig. It's balanced and has flavours of black pepper, cherry and raisin with a full body. Smooth texture with a long finish - Decanted two hours. The wine can continue to age a long time.

Deep garnet in color with rich brick edge. Day one and this wine was dumb...finished my glass, popped the cork in and what follows are my notes from day two. Bouquet of luxardo cherries, tobacco and violets. On the palate, it is very rich, expressing sour cherry, frutti di bosco, and just a hint of cedar and warm spice. The satisfying dry finish goes on for an extended period of time. Sandy tannins are in balance and not particularly pronounced. I suspect the intensity on the palate is due to the 14.5% alcohol, but somehow this wine manages not to show heat--its remarkably well-balanced and I think has many years of improvement ahead of it in the cellar.

Opened and decanted two hours in advance. The wine is suprisingly light bodied for a brunello. Nice tobacco and blackberry notes. The age gives the wine a beautiful raisiny taste. This paired amazingly with the wild duck breast and asparagus we had.

My last and best bottle. Popped and poured then slow decanted for the next two hours. Floral and cherry notes abound on the nose. Tart cherry and earth on tne palate. Perhaps even a tiuchnof tobacco. Had with osso bucco and then some dark chocolate. This wine is drinking beautifully now. Can't imagine it getting any better. Drink up.

2 hour decant. Super elegant and mature. Mild black cherries and "tomacco" on the nose, with some modest oak. The fruit is still there - sweet, somewhat dusty cherries, lots of secondary characteristics with a bit of angularity on the medium length but oh so satisfying slightly sweet and complex finish. At peak, not sure how long it will hold - so enjoy!

Excellent Brunello from one of my favourite producers. Just a couple of hours of air. Beautiful rusty brick colour in a large glass. Utterly delicious served with Tagliata of Beef on warm evening. So much developed fruit flavour - this is almost like a halfway house between traditionally richer and darker Brunello and an aged Barolo. Which ticks all the boxes for me. Only had one of these sadly but have a few other vintages and this sort of bottle age seems perfect for the wine.

PnP upon arrival at Ciao Bella and slow ox for about an hour while we enjoyed some seafood apps first. Varietally correct semi translucent garnet color with some edge ambering. Perfuse berries and spicy nose. Excellent balance and perfectly ripe unlike some other more jammy 07s. This is in a great spot 11 years in. Burgundian elegance, weight & finesse. Energetic and fresh, red fruit, spice, cedar notes and terrific tonight with pizza. My last btl and semi regretting I don't have one more to age out till its 15th bday. 92+/93- tonight.

Well, it did not get better. This is my last bottle and it I don’t suppose it can be past prime so it may have just been an off one. A bit tannic yet, perhaps a little stringent even. Fruit barely discernible. In fairness, it was PNP through a vinturi. I do like brunellos but don’t venture beyond a couple of makers, which don’t include this. We’ll see what the second day brings.

Pnp. Varietally correct semi translucent garnet color with some edge ambering. Floral nose. Excellent balance and perfectly ripe unlike some other more jammy 07s. This is in a great spot at nearly a full ten years old. Energetic and fresh, red fruit, spice, cedar notes and terrific tonight with pizza. BdM is always an outstanding pizza pairing. Occasionally, I find myself wondering if I own a smidge too much BdM but btls like this renew my faith. This btl went pretty quickly like all the best ones do:). Terrific value for the $40 I paid. Loved it! One '07 left and going to be difficult to keep my hands off of it.

Jesse and I enjoyed this Brunello with Italian food, after an afternoon of hard labor at home. We gave this an hour in glasses to open up. Beautiful garnet in the glass, with blood orange edges and medium body, plus massive legs. On the nose, notes of dark cherries and plums. On the palate, cherries and plums sing through with Perugina chocolate on the long finish. Superb.

A classic brunello well balanced - lots of dark fruit - black cherries - I think some black berries - tannins was medium minus - not a very long aftertaste - had with a light meal which was not the right choice - so starting at 89

Typical BDM presentation in color as well as on the nose and palate. Ruby Red color, leggy. Nose of cherries and wild flowers. The same on the palate with a little heat even for an 8 y/o bdm an a one hour decant. This should improve with more time in the cellar.

Light bodied with some complexity. Paired with cod marechiaro, escarole and boiled potatoes. Good fish pairing red with subtle spice (anise, marjoram) and a hint of some fruit - persimmon maybe? Add a few points if you like Sangiovese. Probably not a great qpr.

Friday Night Double Blind Tasting $40+ (Bin 75): See through crimson core with orangey rim, some age; dark cherry, dried fruit, some stank, reticent, raspberry; rose, cherry, cedar, good subtle intensity that should put on some weight with more bottle age; very good.

hauled in a bottle from Montalcino a couple years ago, the nose is shy but pretty with a red fruit aroma, bold and young, plum, black cherry, spice and anise fill in on a powerful, tightly-packed palate, strong tannin, some earthy elements show up on the finish, if I could do it over again I would have let her sleep another year, however, this is drinking fine and was great with chicken parmigiana and tomato sauce

slight funk on the nose, a whiff of barnyard, followed by red chery, soil, dust and porcini mushroom. Palate is chalk and red cherry. Lovely mineral core. Long aftertaste. Lacking a bit in midpalate. Needs more time, not so ripe.

Brunello di Montalcino Focusing on 2007 (SF Wine Trading Company): Light, fragrant with a bit of smokiness. Bright, fine upfront fruit followed by licorice, high but not intrusive acidity, and excellent minerality on the finish. Quite elegant and the antithesis of the farcically large scaled Fanti.

Montalcino visit June 2012; 6/8/2012-6/10/2012 (Montalcino): Ruby color. Aromas of cherry and candy-sticks and some spices. Full bodied with ripe fruit, but slightly hot. Medium-long finish. Quite characteristic of some of the '07 Brunelli I've tasted. Perhaps I'm just being put off to much by the candied fruit charter. Some may like it. I don't....

Decanted 3 hours before drinking. Was somewhat tight throughout, with a very minerally base, but without much percolating fruitiness to balance it. Not my favorite, perhaps needed more time.

Nice solid wine, would have rated much higher if I had not traveled to Italy last year, got spoiled and learned of the magic from Montalcino.

Rich ripe sweet dark cherry. High alcohol. Dark garnet. Not totally modern but not traditional either. Still tannic. Needs a couple years. I like the wine but prefer a little lighter in style for bdm.

Needs to aerate but after it was quite smooth; light body with slight subtle fruity taste

PNP with braised short ribs and parmesan polenta. Drank well but will be better in a couple more years at least

slight funk on the nose, a whiff of barnyard, followed by red chery, soil, dust and porcini mushroom.

Decanted for an hour. Cloudy crimson color. Hits all the right notes for a brunello, but mouthfeel and finish come up short. Good with a bolognese sauce. Decent for the price point, but not great.

Pnp. Varietally correct lighter garnet color. Floral nose. Balanced, ripe, pretty, nice weight and delicious but, quite young and primary right now. Never had this producer and was eager to try my first of three btls. I'll save the other 2 for down the road 3yrs plus from now. Give this more air than I did if you drink it. Kind of rushed my way through this wine tonight with homemade pizza. Paid $40 for it.

Sommeliers Australia - Brunello di Montalcino 2007 (Quay Restaurant, International Passenger Terminal, Sydney): Pale ruby. Medium plus intensity aromas of farmyard, leather, meat, slight cherry, yeast extract, bacon fat and slightly oxidised notes. In the mouth the high level of tannin is slightly unripe and grippy. Sweet spice dominates the plates straining into savoury oak water and a medium length, astringent finish. Meh

I don't....
