The gamey, earthy nose is great, and noticeably Lambrays to me – it has a touch of the 2017 tea note in it. Beautiful balance of acidity and developed tannin right now, it is juicy but quenching. Agree with other notes that it is a bit "muddy", but that is slightly charming to me.

I tend to rate Burgs a bit higher than most. What keeps this from higher score for me is a lack of precision (clarity/acidity). A bit muddy for my taste, yet remains pleasant. Don't see this as getting better.

Floral, ripe and slightly tart red fruit, touch of menthol, pressed lingonberries and maybe some truffle. Concentrated, quite full-bodied for Burgundy and still elegant and even austere in some sense. With aeration it gets even more balanced and structured.

Celebration for Oct babies: Guessed 2013 Chambolle for this. Floral aromatics, with elegant, slightly sweet pinot fruit on the palate. Became better with air, but as often the case with Lambrays, not a particularly imposing GC. A very pleasant drink nevertheless.

This was very open, almost surmature with darker fruit , tons of earth and some fading flowers. Felt like too much of a good thing and not certain that it is poised to be better with time. We’ll have to see about this one.

Decanted and took about four hours for the tannins to resolve, and the fruit to come forward. All the tasters agreed this was a fine bottle of wine, but lacked the "wow" factor for a Grand Cru. Maybe time will be kind to the Lambrays and I will keep my last bottle for several years.

Burgundy 2012 against German-speaking competitors: Blind. Nose: fruit and floral, with a touch of game, evolving towards licorice. Sweet entry, with fine tannins, mineral and a touch of "sauvage". It's rich (the richest of the flight), but remains elegant, and has the most tannins.

Double decanted for one hour. Dark ruby, rich nose immediately present. Ripe and voluptuous more so than other Lambrays I have had recently. Very mouth coating with a long finish. Excellent. Young but can be enjoyed with an aggressive decant.

This is excellent but needs to be decanted or let sit for a couple of hours to open up. Classic Lambrays Clos with a slight smokiness, good tannins that settle down with time and loads of dark sweet fruit flavours. A very full bodied pinot in colour, flavours and weight on the palate. The second day this was softer on the palate. Drinkable now but has lots of upside. So I will cellar the rest for several years.

For all its youth this bottle was stunning. Needed a nice 1 hour decant but was excellent PnP. Excellent nose of Burgundian terroir with smoke and iron notes. Silky smooth tannins, exceptional balance and enough fruit to not overwhelm the senses. Perfect with both escargot and an entrée of Duck breast. Sorry there aren't more specific notes but if you can find it own it and drink now but buy to lay down.

Had it with Ponsot Clos de la Roche 2011. Rich and expressive nose, with a slight hint of white pepper. On the palate very fruit driven but lacks a grand cru pizzazz. Even shorter than the Ponsot. Still a nice bottle and still young. Don’t think it’ll get too much better with age.

brief note as enjoyed over christmas lunch. wonderfully pure and expressive on the nose. silky on the palette, with a great depth in concentration and richness. very enjoyable now with lots of life ahead. best lambrays i've tried.

From a half bottle: a purity on the nose, cassis, woodland aromas, wild berry, mushroom; dense, concentrated, refined, restrained, balanced, good fruit, long finish, somewhat constricted, but beautifully poised; very good indeed

Fantastic CdL! Nose with ripe raspberries, cherries, touch of pepper, spice box, airy flowers, crushed minerals and lovely stems. Palate shows a delicate and airy, yet powerful fruit profile, ripe raspberries, with berries and strawberries , minerals and excellent acidity. Very ripe but not overly so in anyway, with a superb and long finsih. Transparent and clean. A top vintage of Lambrays. This will evolve beautifully with time. (94 - 96+)

Pretty dense nose of dark fruit, black pepper, meat, herbs and sweaty socks. Thick on the palate with more dark fruit, some white pepper and earth and brooding spice. For a second this reminded me of young DRC Corton. Quite a bit of structure on this finish. Clearly needs time.

This has started to shut down, shows completely unlike older notes here, thought this would be bigger and more obvious. Wood-dominated nose after an hour turns not to fruit but a showy high-toned floral/organic perfume. Great delicacy and finesse, with air the tannin becomes increasingly and surprisingly apparent - not clenched, bassy mouth-filling tannin; a strong top-note instead. Good wine but I hate to score it right now.

Visit to Domaine des Lambrays (Morey-St-Denis): (Yield 15 hl/ha, harvested 20 September). Again a dark, impenetrable appearance. Complex fruit aromas; raspberries, cassis, and blueberries with spicy aromas. An impression of real ripeness. Tremendous concentration on the palate; complex fruit flavours in good balance with acids and polished tannins. Flavours of crème de cassis, compote de fruits and mixed dark spices. We asked about the comparison between the 2012 and the 2003. Thierry said that although there was high concentration, it was not to the level of 2003 (when they harvested at 24 August). I agreed that there was no surmaturite here. Excellent!

Bottled 2 weeks ago. From yields only 1/3rd of those in 1999. Blackest colour so far by some distance. Insanely ripe and concentrated. Gorgeous nose of violets. Dark, ripe fruit profile on the palate with depth that surpasses anything else tonight. Indeed, unlike any other wine this evening.

Barrel sample at the Domaine. This is a 'must have' once it is released. Beautiful weight and texture with generous red fruits and copious amounts of sexy Lambrays perfume. Fantastic.

Drinking extremely well now and in the top tier of the many vintages of this that I have tried.
