On the nose, aromas of tobacco, dark fruit, leather, graphite. Despite its age, plenty of fruit on the palate. Acidity is there but fading a little. Medium-bodied with gentle/softer tannins. Drinking well; served in a quick decant.

Elegant, but rich. A finely delineated breadth of flavour. Tannins have evaporated but the wine has the richness to compensate. Fully ready and hints of a fine Burgundy in mouthfeel Really very good

Deep garnet color with a bit of brown on the edge. Still powerful with firm tannins, spicy wood notes, lush fruit flavors mingled with hints of herbs and leather. A beautiful wine!

Lovely, mature CdP. Lush red fruit, raspberry like, and hints of earth and licorice. Not much tannin left and the backbone comes from the well balanced acid and fruit. Enjoyed this bottle with grilled ribeye steak and asparagus.

The 2004 Domaine du Caillou Chateaunuef du Pape Les Quartz displayed a spellbinding bouquet of sweet and sour cherry and strawberry, dusty dried florals, red licorice, and cinnamon, as more savory tones evolved in the glass, with animal musk, and undergrowth. On the palate, it was elegant, silky, yet finessed, with vibrant acidity giving life to a mix of ripe red berries, sweet spices, inner violet florals and a hint of dark balsamics. The finish was long, with a tug of lingering acid and tannins, as saturating spiced cherry, sweet herbal tones and tobacco lingered.

A crumbly cork meant decanting to filter out the bits of cork that fell through. Good, even maturing ruby. Very rich, full nose with black, but mainly red fruits. Woody spice gives way to a fair dose of sous bois, which contributes to really quite a Burgundian feel. Luscious mature palate. Fabulous precise violet-scented fruit. Tannins are fully integrated. Despite the 14.5% alcohol, this feels really balanced and elegant. Really very impressive.
One more bottle of this left. #gloats

Fully mature - light ruby going to garnet in appearance.
Mature and pronounced nose of decaying red fruit, earth, baking spice, vanilla and spice. Reminiscent of mature red Burgundy.
Medium bodied with fully mature tannins and medium (at best ) acidity. Lots of similar flavor characteristics on the palate with a long delicious finish.
Drink up!

2014 vintage french wines (At Hugo's): Dark transparent red purple with brownish rim Intense dark rich fruits tertiary jammy aroma with earthy and leather notes Full bodied, concentrated fruits, soft firm tannins, excellent balance and harmony, well structured, complexed, oak vanilla, chocolate, oak vanilla, excellent aftertaste, medium length finish. Unique style of CDP's special cuvee.

Business Lunch, second part (Restaurant La Piperna - Madrid): Intense on the palate, tannic and strong yet tamed by the time. Little shortie anyway. More representative on the nose where ripen Grenache, mineral aromas prevail among many others. Matched with a owed duck leg.

Taste from Hezi at FHE. Showing some age. Rustic liqueured herbs. Very old world, dark cherry and tar. Moderate body, finish shows lots of dirty spice elements.

Deep crimson. Intriguing, ever changing, minerally bouquet of blackberries, cherries, red currants, wet earth, herbs, flowers, and touches of chocolate and pencil shavings. The black raspberry palate is long and expansive, structured and refined, a touch dry, and crescendos into a crushed rock and espresso finish. This holds back initially but the aromas and flavors continually evolve with no apex in sight. The only thing that stopped its evolution was the end of the bottle. This oozes confidence and sophistication.

Dekanteret i en time i karaffel. Serveret med braiseret fasan med flødesauce. Godt match.

Beautiful CdP. I loved the balance of red fruit (strawberry, raspberry) with the dusky herbal notes and faint earthy elements. No hint of the obtrusive tannins or alcoholic heat mentioned in a few of the recent notes. This was just a lovely medium-to-full bodied wine rolling in its prime. I think I paid $25 for this on sale two years ago and am kicking myself for not buying half a case or more. At peak now, but should hold for at least 4-5 more years, maybe longer.

I am not a big fan of CDP, so take this with a grain of salt. Alcohol was a tad too noticeable for my liking. Fairly typical good CDP favour profile, for those whol like this sort of things.

nose - herbal, strawberry, smoke mouth - restrained frutiwise, light fruit punchy essence on the midpalate, sharp tannins, not really as well as expected tonight.

Fantastic... fresh red fruits, garrigue, dust, rainwater, intense minerality, great balance, great aromatic intensity. Super concentrated, no oak showing, decently tannic but very enjoyable. Top notch and lots of upside.

Drank alongside La Crau 1999 of Vieux Telegraphe. The latter was more typical for Chateauneuf, Quartz is a more commercial wine, more fruit, a little sweet. But a very good wine. Needed a lot of time to open up, certainly two hours in a caraf! Very good.

Nice dark color. Great and balanced nose of cherries and some minerals - almost like a barolo. Very nice balanced and structured body. An elegent and interesting, but not typical, CNDP. Seems that Clos du Caillou is among the CNDP producers to make the most from the 2004 vintage. (Tasted at a CNDP 2004 tasting from which I unfortunately lost my notes. I therefore restrict myself to posting notes on the wines that really stood out and which I can remember clearly).

Tasted at the domaine. Deeper and more intense than the regular Caillou Chateauneuf in '04 (see TN). Balanced and rather round in the mouth, with ripe red / black fruit and good acidity. Light spice. Impressive.

Short impressions: Showing not a lot on the nose. Great stuffing and concentration, pure fruit (nothing cooked or stewed). Of course much too young but will be great!

Soft. Lucious. Fresh. Slightly reductive initially. Round. Delivers on what you want for this wine. Some raspberry and slighty leafy. A fun wine.

Informal note- tasted at a busy dinner party. This is my second last bottle of a case purchased on release.
This is a fully mature and gorgeous CDP that is more finesse and elegance than power. Hard to find this style any more.
Lots of red fruits, tobacco, spice and vanilla .
Aromas and palate are both mature and I would definitely drink up in next 12 months.
