I've had this cellared since it was released in (2014 I think). I bought two bottles then and this is the first time I have opened one. It was worth the wait. I think Jordan generally makes high quality wines, but if you are in a restaurant, or buy from the store, they are the newest release typically and then you end up drinking it way too young. I stayed disciplined with these two bottles and resisted the temptation to pull from my cellar until they were at least 10 years old. Now I can't wait for the next one. This was such a complex wine, rich tannins but not overwhelming, amazing after taste that left me both thinking/trying to identify the menagerie of flavors and savoring the taste all at the same time. Should continue to evolve for many more years.

77% cabernet sauv, 16% merlot, 5% PV, 2% malbec. Definitely recommend with the caveat that it is time to start drinking these bottles. Before writing this note I reviewed my last note on this wine from 11/'18 and some evolutionary but not revolutionary changes have occurred. Poured at a wine education event for a group of nurse practitioners that Kim & I hosted after a medical talk I gave. Mature and at peak, a good QPR wine at our acquisition price and hold or drink right now - no further upside to additional cellaring is anticipated but on the other hand there is also no hurry, with proper cellaring this still has at least a good 2-3 years to go. Would benefit from a short 30 minute decant. Soft, evolved, complex, now soft but still present oak & tannins, dark purple with some bricking present, medium bodied especially when compared to the '12 Groth that was also opened and this has a very pleasant medium long aftertaste. Nose soft and very pleasant with plum, dark cherry, vanilla, black pepper and a hint of smoke. Flavor profile soft and complex with fading oak and dark stone fruit up front and a mid-late palate of stone, graphite and leather with a soft vanilla finish.

Notes from memory. Dark, sweet red and blue fruit with a nice savory streak into the finish. Seemed a little on the sweeter side, but has good structure and acidity. Consumed without food and was fine on its own as a cocktail. Drink 2022-2026. Technical score: 92. Enjoyment score: 91.

Deep ruby in color with moderate plus intensity. Blackberry, black plum, bramble, nutmeg, clove and a hint mint. A gorgeous balance of fruit throughout with high tannins that were round and approachable, high acidity, medium plus body and a long finish. 94/100

After 60+ minutes decanting, it became very well balanced vs what on initial opening seemed very tannin heavy. Nice change from the fruit forward flavor bombs. More complex, leather, vanilla, slight oak and tobacco.

Having tried the '13 last night we tried the '12 tonight. Both quite good and good QPR wines but the '13 is much further along - the '12 is a bigger, darker, more fruit forward, more tannic and simpler wine which is drinking well but I feel may not have quite reached it's peak yet. This needs a decant, the hour or so that we let it breath in the bottle was not sufficient as the wine kept changing over the next couple of glasses. Very dark purple to black, a bold almost sweet bouquet of dark fruit and garrigue and the palate dominantly oaked with cassis, smoke, dark cherry and blackberry.Definitely recommend this wine and it easily has another 5-10 years ago with proper cellaring.

Typically I find a Jordan Cab to be neither bad nor exceptionally good ... usually “pretty good.” However, this 2012 vintage was quite good, even with no decant time. Very happily surprised.

This deep ruby wine is a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec. Aged for 12 months in a combination of French and American oak (approximately 70% and 30% respectively, with 41% of the barrels new), it is a luscious Cab with no hard edges. Packed with dark bramble fruits, baking spices, cedar and lavender, it has low acidity, medium silky tannins, unnoticeable alcohol (listed as 13.8%) and well-integrated oak. Nicely dense on the mid-palate, it proceeds to a medium-length, smooth finish. No better description here than "quintessential Alexander Valley Cabernet." Enjoy the hedonism over the next several years. Drink now-2025.

If you like big chewy Cali-Cab fruit forward wines, it would get a lower score. Much more balanced and a very good wine with nice cassis fruit, lite vanilla oak, good secondary flavors of some mushroom and forest floor after open for an hour+. Not heavy, medium to full body, smooth and elegant actually so better with lamb or a filet than a ribeye. Nice change of pace cab.

Blueberry, cherry and mocha perfume. Confident, understated and elegant on the palate yet there's no doubting this is a Cali Cab. Almost full bodied with light tannins. The winemaker has shown impressive restraint.

This wine is probably going to top out around 91. I was given the leftovers of a bottle that was enjoyed to about the last 100ml. Two days after it was recorked and sat in low light, this wine didn't take much coaxing at all. I don't know what they were talking about being underwhelmed. A 2012 Jordan is a baby, and this wine showed very well two days later. Lots of blackberry and floral notes on the nose. The wine enters with blackberry, new leather. Medium+ bodied. The wine went lighter in the middle with some kind of cinnamon spice cookie and raspberry crush. The finish was darker with black pepper and blackberry cassis on the finish. Definitely up and down, and perhaps a little disjointed, but I think it needs time. Showing nicely on day THREE, so this basically shows that the bottle cannot be successfully rated right now.

3rd place wine (both mine and the group of 10 tasters) in a blind tasting of Cabernet Sauvignons. Deep garnet (hey, we were watching the garnet and gold Seminoles put a whooping on the Gators!) in color. Nice nose of dark fruit and flowers. Flavors are similar but with some herbaceous notes of green bell pepper. Good balance. 90-91 overall.

An opaque inky purple wine that is relatively simple, straightforward and pleasurable to drink. A fragrant nose of plum, currant and a touch of vanilla leads to a fruit forward, though not overly extracted, simple flavor of plum, blackberry with a touch of cedar. Thin mouthfeel and tannins that dominate the acids lead to a quite short finish. Not a bad effort but lacking at this price point as there are numerous options that deliver more interest, complexity and variety of fruits available. Not sure about drinking window, but it is drinkable now and likely will not age gracefully given its unbalanced nature.

Had this at Sammy's in Mendham with Porterhouse steak & fries.
This was darker than the first wine a FAUST cabernet 2012. Wine was a dark ruby color, with a larger nose of roasted figs and cherry. Complex palette with some currants, eucalyptus, sweet fig and soil flavors. Decently long finish. This is a well produced mid-priced cab.

This wine was earthy and fruity on the nose. The fruit was lighter than La Jota or other premium cabs and not as dark or complex. The pallet was thin and fruity. The fruit was not deep, but was not jammy either. Not worth the $90 CAD price tag - drinks more like a $40 bottle. Decent wine. 89 points.

At +$40 this wine is a big loser. The mouthfeel is very thin. in addition, the tannins and acidity is unbalanced. The wine is fruity, but fake fruity (like using Equal instead of Sugar). It drinks like a sub $20 cab and I am being generous. This is coming from a big fan of Napa Cabs.

Very tasty and easy to enjoy and even reasonably balanced. Black currant and cassis with oaky hints showing a slightly sweet start, but nicely textured middle and finish. $15 per glass at the United Club makes my 2 hour flight delay less terrible.

I am having a love affair with Jordan and it started when I tasted the 2010. As I wrote in an earlier note it was the first time that I tasted cream in this stunning Cab or any Cab for that matter. The 2012 is the spicy, fiery, free spirited, little sister of the 2010. Completely unforgettable!

California Cabs: Dark ruby color. Deep but vibrant black cherry, black currant and roasted fig aromas, I also get wet earth, charcoal, violets and eucalyptus, all of which combine to make the nose incredibly inviting. A velvety feel on the palate, solid structure to the tannins but fresness from the moderate-plus acidity. Saucy, smooth black fruit, plenty ripe but it maintains a nuanced appeal. Complex elements of loam, eucalyptus, gravelly soil, potted flowers. Hints of sweet cola and vanilla round out the finish. Open for business but stuffing to improve in the cellar. Includes 16% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec, aged in new and used French and American oak.

Funny that there's tasting notes on this from over a year ago when The Winery says it was just released the beginning of March 2016. This is a delicious wine. Very nicely balanced - slightly to the tannic side. It is very smooth, but not light. Good berry and spice with a long oak finish.

Bit ripe fruit but a little soft on finish. Still a fan. This vintage can age a bit longer but drinking nicely right now.

Solid california cab. Very fruit forward, not much depth after. Always consistent which might be my favorite part about Kordan cabs.

Decanted for 45 minutes. Rich Alexander Valley fruit balanced by fine tannins. The fruit shows after about one hour. This is excellent wine, still improving and needs at least four more years IMHO.
